Do not let your dogs do there duty on other people"s lawns, the brown spots are not very appealing, the covenants cover this and should be read by all dog owners, people's property is private, not a dog park. Thankyou.

I'll be first!!!
I object to the general categorization of "dog owners" and the unknown reason why one would want to throw such a caution/suggestion to the 95% of us dog owners who do in fact the right thing.
To be more accurate in the future please address you request to the guilty parties by using such terminology as dog owners who etc, etc, etc.
And oh by the way if you are hoping to reach some you know in your neighborhood, then you must also know they will see your message here on TOTV (which I doubt). And if there are some in your neighborhood doing what you object to, just be very neighborly and go out and ask them to cease and desist....then you will have narrowed your need to seek corrective very specifically to the party that is in fact guilty (I doubt this will happen either....the old let's not offend the guilty).
TOTV does serve a purpose to with it's anonymoty to allow folks to vent their dislikes in the safety of incognito. However you should be more specific in your venting as to who the vent is aimed.

I would think people expect their dogs to poop on their own property before they go for a walk. And I do see responsible dog owners walking their dogs with a bag in hand in case of accidents. I have just never seen someone let their dog poop and then walk on. It really surprises me that people just leave it.

I would say the majority of dog owners are responsible and if accidents do happen, they do clean up. They don't plan on their dogs doing their business on someone's lawn, but sometimes it just happens. But you can buy signs at Petco and PetsMart that do ask that dogs stay off your property.
However, I can say I do know quite a few people who have complained about dog owners, but many of them own cats........who are allowed to roam loose. They think that's different.......HMMM.
But either way............you need to confront those you are having problems with and not generalize all dog owners.

For those fledgeling TOTV members who may not already know, if you use the 'search' feature at the top of the page and type in 'dog poop' you will find there have been MANY threads and posts on this topic. It will afford you HOURS of reading.
I went off on it when I was new, too. Silly me. That's when I was first encouraged to use the old search button.
Long before I came along, TOTV surmised that the majority of dog owners in TV are responsible and considerate human beings.
The blankety-blank other dog owners are likened to pond scum.
In most cases, they are not 'candidates for enlightenment', so you can get all verklempt, or bite the countertop, but THEY won't change and you'll still be verklempt.
Ask me, I know.
I finally sprinkled red pepper flakes on the perimeter of my lawn before the last regular 'poopetrator' brought his dog for it's daily territorial visit .
The dog took a sniff and kept on going. After two visits my address was avoided.
That might be an idea. Meantime, we understand.

Why is it that we have lived here in two homes for five years, the latest being a corner lot and no dog has done bad stuff on our property?
I love our neighborhood dogs, here and in Hadley.
I am sorry that so many folks have difficulty.
I also want to say that I haven't ever seen people let their cats out to wander about here. They would be prey for the coyotes and hawks.
Life on this forum wouldn't be right without a dog poop thread, a roundabout thread, an IRS thread and discussion of guns, none of which we will all completely agree upon.

Oh good. There's nothing like a good dog poop thread.
That being said, there are some who do not use their own yard for the dog to poop in, so they take them to other people's property to dooooo it and leave it. They are a small minority of dog owners. Most are responsible and friendly.

Because you are blessed with delightful neighbors.
Now, THAT"S what we could have, a Delightful Neighbor Appreciation Day.

Perhaps more people would walk their dogs in the dog parks, not in the neighborhoods. Allowing two dogs per household, but not having areas set aside for the pets does not make sense.

But The Villages does set aside areas for pets, from the Patio Villa owners all the way up to Premier home owners, it is called "your own backyard". You want to take your dog out for a walk, make sure he takes care of business on your own property instead of using everyone else's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall seeing sidewalks in front of neighborhood homes, so aren't people walking their dogs out in the street? And if that's the case for what reason should a dog be allowed in anyone's yard to begin with? If you can't control where your dog walks you shouldn't own one. JMHO

Do SOME dog owners put their pets in shopping carts where we put our food?

I've seen sidewalks in some of the villages south of 466A but I don't think it makes a difference as some pet owners have those extending leashes that allows their pet to roam a good distance.
I don't live in TV yet. I will be there in the near future though and it would **** me off to see someone's pet **** on my lawn. I wouldn't want to put anything down that could be dangerous for the animals but in case it does I would put a couple of motion detector sprinklers around to ward them off.

Billethekid, I'm with you. I'm quite tired of being lumped in--assumed to be in the MINORITY of dog owners who do blah, blah, blah bad with their dogs when in fact I go out of my way to keep my dog's doings private and so do most dog owners I see around our neighborhood.
We have someone walking his dog before daybreak (or else I would see them) and letting it dog poop in our yard and leaving it. We can tell the difference between their little dog's you-know-what and ours by the size. We need a back hoe for ours. If and when I ever catch this, I will speak to them. So I know the frustration of people who can't catch this happening.
Still, it's not fair to assume we're all inconsiderate when in fact, it's a small minority.
There's a billion dogs here. If the majority of dog owners didn't pick up after them, you would not be able to walk the streets here without stilts.

But you are right, Gracie. The infractions are few. They stand out more because so few people allow their dogs to commit them. When you encounters one, it stands out.
And I say keep bringing on the same old debates. There's usually a fresh take in each one. Plus someone mentioned it's usually a new poster. Since doing a search and reading through a thousand former posts would be exhausting, maybe this will keep ongoing probems in the forefront.

A lot of ignorant people about a lot more things than dogs on the grass. I was very innocently walking my 2 small, pups during the Christmas season at night enjoying the Holiday lights. My dogs had done their business at home. An ignorant Inconsiderate, law breaker that thinks it's OK to drive while drinking and speed came barreling down the street at a pretty high rate of speed especially for a back road. Although I had a flash light on myself and my dogs I was frightened and backed on to the nearest yard. It happened to be the yard this poor excuse for a Villager was pulling into. I can not repeat the stream of garbage that came out of his and his passengers mouth about allowing my dogs on his grass. Very sad state of humaness.
Dogpoop ! Really!

Life is FAR too short to worry about some of the things many of you worry about. Next time you buy a home, ASK to buy into a neighborhood with NO pets, if this is such a concern.
It's GRASS, and that little brown spot will turn green with that NASTY water you use to water it!

People People People, do you not know that your yard is full of poop and pee from geckos, rabbits, snakes, birds, toads, frogs, and the occasional dog. Eliminating the dog poop would be the proverbial drop in the bucket so calm down and think about what you are saying. I am yet to see anyone sitting in their front yard having a picnic. I would bet, most villagers have not sat, laid down on or even just walked around in their yard. I would ask what is the true problem. I have a very large corner lot off the beaten path in Duval that is open for dog use so come on by and let your dogs play in the grass and have a good time. No biting allowed, but poop would be OK. If its great dane size, please bring a shovel and wheel barrow at least once a week to remove the load.
