Looking for a good, reasonably priced Mexican Rstaurant for this Mon. (2/18/13).
Would like it on campus or nearby, doesn't have to be fancy.

Give Fiesta Grande Mexican Grill a try. It's located at the far end of the Colony Plaza. I also believe they have a mariache band playing on Mondays. We've had nothing but good experiences there, unlike Ay! Jalisco in Spanish Springs.

Is Chi Chi's still a chain? I used to love their El Grande Burros.
I also love Chipotle. We can hope someday...maybe they will come here.
I don't know authentic...I just know chains like those I just mentioned. I will try the one at Colony.
I fixed soft taco's at home the other night and we all fell on them like a herd of wolves. YUM!

and yet another vote for Colony Plaza Fiesta Grande - always have had a good meal at a good price there. If you do a search you'll hear some bad rap about the place, but we have only had good times there.
Gracie, ChiChi's went out of business about 10 years ago.

Azteca's in Wildwood is pretty good, too.

I do not know of any good or even remotely good Mexican restaurants here. I have tried Fiesta Grande at Colony and it is terrible. The sauces have way too much added sugar to them and the meat has tasted sour like it has not been fresh.
Ay Jalisco is also bad food. The "crispy fried" chimichanga was soft and mushy all over instead of crispy. It, also, did not have good flavor.
Forget Mexican food and go to Pasta Faire instead. Great Italian food at a very reasonable price.

Having lived in Mexico for many years so we feel we have a good handle on what constitutes authentic Mexican, we have yet to find anything remotely resembling authentic. We do the best we can in our own kitchen. lol

Can't find their address in the phone book.
Are they east or wet of Publix?

I spoke with the GM of Abuelos Mexican Restaurant in Orlando last week and ask if they had considered The Villages for a location. They had, but chose Orlando and Lakeland. They have about 50 locations nationwide and are, we think, one of the finest Mexican Restaurants. We were fortunate, in Dayton OH, to have one about a mile away. Drove to Orlando last week for anniversary dinner and again, realized how much we miss them. Colony restaurant is our local favorite...

Azteca's in Wildwood is pretty good, too.
I agree, Azteca's is more authentic, family owned and has more spice!

It's El Ranchito, and it's across the street from Perkins. They also have another location on 441 in Leesburg, not too far past the 27/441 split.

Chicken Time, which is located in Belleview, US 441, on the right. Oh yeah, it is not Mexican, it is Puerto Rican........and delicious!

Does anyone know of that mexican restaurant in lady lake in front of Burger King before you hit the target plaza?
That's Moe's. It's a burrito joint. V ery good if you want fast food burritos.

Old side El Ranchita? is the better choice. In Bushnell Coyote Rojo is very good and San Juan on 27 just past Leesburg is marvelous.

I agree with those that say there is no good mexican food, in or around the villages. Terrible is the closest you can get.
Someone who wants to make a fortune should open an authentic mexican food place.

Latinos y Mas is one of our favorites, however, for closer to home, we like Fiesta Grande at Colony. Will look forward to trying Azteca.
We don't worry too much about the "not authenic" complaint.....have heard it about Mexican restaurants all over the states and even other countries. May not be authenic, but it can still be quite tasty!! :)

I had really good Mexican fusion food in Ocala at Latinos y Mas. Everything was excellent and it was packed at lunch.

Try Habanero's in Leesburg just past the Lake Square Mall. It is in front of the plaza that has Publix.

Another vote for Habanero's and San Juan's.
DH complains that the food served here in Florida is Tex-Mex rather than Mexican.

I like Aztecas in Wildwood by the Sav-a-lot and next to Rita's Oyster Bar. Order the specialties, not the anglicized food. Nice and spicy. Homemade salsa fixed fresh daily.

If you are somewhat adventuresome, there is a mexican grocery/restaurant on 27/441 in Fruitland Park on the right going towards Leesburg. The restaurant is in the back of the grocery store. I had three tacos, one tongue, one tripe and one goat meat, they were really good.
