View Full Version : Why did you chose your forum name.

skyguy79
02-20-2013, 01:01 PM
I remember that there was a thread some time ago asking about how you chose your forum name, and with so many new members I thought it was time to start it anew. I'll start by describing my choice of skyguy79.

Back in the 60's & 70's I belonged to and marched with four different drum & bugle corps; The Troy Skyliners, Syracuse Brigadiers, Interstatesmen from Troy NY and my last was with the New York Skyliners from Jersey City, NJ. The picture below is from my final year of marching and it was with the NY Skyliners in 1979.

The photo was taken by a professional photographer named Moe Knox, and it was during one of our shows while we were performing in competition. I am the one on the right and the instrument is a baritone two valve bugle. The only thing missing on our uniforms that day were the plumes in our shakos. They were pulled whenever there was a threat of rain as they would be ruined if rained upon.

I wanted a unique name so I wanted "TO BE IN TV".

Hence "2BNTV".

No reason. My name is Bonnie, but that was taken so I spelled it with a Y.

Bill-n-Brillo
02-20-2013, 01:36 PM
I gave Sandy the nickname "Brillo" soon after we first met eons ago. She has naturally curly hair - VERY curly. She used to have a large natural Afro back in the day - curls as tight as a Brillo Pad. Hence the nickname. Some people feel it's an offensive name - she likes the name and so do I. If she had ANY issue with it, the name would've gone away long ago.......believe me! :D

And I'm Bill...........well, cuz that's what my mom and dad came up with. :pepper2:

Serenoa
02-20-2013, 02:15 PM
I'm a PALM nut, and so I thought I'd use the botanical name for one of the many that I grow, Serenoa repens (saw palmetto). It's the avatar pic that I use, also.

I thought Serenoa had a nice, peaceful, serene sound to it (sarah-noah). And much easier to pronounce than Trachycarpus or Rhapidophyllum. LOL

Lbmb are our initials and the numbers are significant in our lives.
I am not good in technology and i did not realize one could be more creative w the names
We are not even in Facebk; this is the only online community we participate in.

BTW, "Brillo" could be also a person with sparkle, brilliance, so, all in all, not a bad nickname.
Plus it resonates w the double B's. :)

I'm a "lightworker" who work with "energy" and "light" to help others "lighten up" and the number 8 represents balance.

888 is the luckiest combination of numbers in Chinese numerology.

Covers alot of bases!

My regular work is on the radio but over the years I have made extra money on the weekends by driving big tour buses as well as driving gasoline & jet fuel tankers. Mack-184 came from the truck I used when doing some driving for the Lyden Oil Company out in Ohio. I drove a Mack- #184.

Villages PL
02-20-2013, 05:31 PM
When it came time to register for this forum, I was unprepared and undecided. So, being in a hurry, "Villages" was the first thing that came to mind. Then I had to add something extra to make it different. That's why I added "PL" but I'm not at liberty at this time to explain what it stands for. Although, I think someone has already figured it out. Ha!

It has been suggested that I change it because there are so many other "Villager" names that it gets confusing. However, 1) I can't seem to make up my mind on what to change it to and 2) I'm not sure how to contact someone who can do it.

Mr. Grampi II
02-20-2013, 10:16 PM
My 3 daughters (now in their 20's) used to call my late father "Grampi", he would jokingly tell them "Mr. Grampi to you..." My dad was the one that "discovered" the Villages in our family, bringing us here in 1994 (before Spanish Springs was finished).

He loved the Villages so much but never had the resources to buy a home here, but I did and carried on his dream. My oldest daughter presented us with our 1st grandchild last year, thus I am now "Mr. Grampi II", in memory of my dad!

I would have to say that every one of these is more creative and clever than anything I could come up with. After visiting here and renting, we decided that some day we would move here but in the meantime we would be "up in Maine". Well we moved here. permanently, much quicker than we would have expected to and so now the name doesn't fit at all but I don't know how to change it.

I thought of something real quick, off the top of my head, in order to register for the site. Endo(Endoscopy Department) is where I presently work in the hospital. Yep, I work with all kinds of scopes!

sky guy, we were in awe of The Sky liners. I did M&M in the OLMM Orbits marching in the Long Island and Jersey circuit.

I was on an expat site while living in France, and my first name is Cyndy, and I have no memory, and... it was easy to remember and easier to carry forward to this forum.

Plus I thought the double meaning was kinda cutesy--C/See France. Sort of. Cute... maybe not.

I put a lot of thought and meditation to come up with mine. My name is Ed Weissenbach but that is far too long for a screen name so I shortened it. My screen name on other sites is Oldcoach so I put that in my signature, as I spent fourteen years as a high school coach and athletic director.

Considering someone has, "Golf Cart Graphics" you should have been able to fit "Ed Weissenbach". (You just need to pony up some cash.) :)

I love this thread! I always wondered what some of these names stood for.
I picked California Dreamer because at the time it really was a dream to even imagine being able to retire early, and move 3,000 miles away, not knowing anyone at TV. my head is generally in the clouds, and my hubby is the practical one!

because ever since I was a child I felt the pull of the ocean, the sand, the screech of sea gulls and terns, the smells of sun tan lotion, creosote treated boardwalk planks and driftwood bonfires...whether the beach is full of bathers or empty clam shells, I can always reach my inner self when I am there - and find peace for a while.

I meant to tell you before, and don't want to pass up the opportunity to tell you now: I really, really loved your avatar for the beginning of January and the new year. thank you gmcneill! a photographer friend of mine goes to the beach and writes msgs in the sand for folks and takes a picture of the msg so the requestor can have the photo to send to someone. and she makes some of her photos avail without copyright - that was one of them.
