A couple of our friends have just moved into the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter. The people that they bought the house from failed to give them the mailbox keys, when the sale closed. Unfortunately, the sellers are now out of the country. Does anyone know where they can get a set of mailbox keys?

They need to order them from the Post Office in Lady Lake. Not sure where that is.

They have to go to the post office to get new keys, which means a new lock, which means some big fees paid to the post office.
I'd go after the realitor who "represented" them for reimbursement of fees paid. The transfer of 2 keys should part of the closing process and part of a closing "agenda" (not the settlement sheet). Looks like their agent was there just to grab his/her commission!

$25 for a new lock and three keys - go to your nearest post office and they'll arrange it

not sure how you prove that is your mailbox, though, as the post office won't want to give you the keys to someone else's!

They can go to the post office. The P.O. will change the lock and give them 3 keys. I asked for a 4th, but they limit it to 3, no matter what.

I went to the post office across from Winn Dixie center on 441, on Griffin Ave. I vaguely remember the quote being $15.00.

I was told you have to go to LaPlaza Grande to arrange new lock and keys, $25 fee.

If they closed with McLinnBurnsed they will be holding the keys.

We just picked them up there for friends who closed on a resale in Sanibel.

I bought a home and recently sold a home in TV thru the Villages Real Estate. As a seller, you are required to turn in the same number of keys you were issued at purchase, otherwise you must pay $100 for each key. The Villages real estate is very thorough in every detail when you purchase/sell thru them. Very impressive operation. Sounds like your friend did not purchase thru TV.

Three keys? We only got two when we closed on our new home.

Well, TV only gave us two keys, so it looks like our kids are going to have to fork over $100 from the estate. ('Cause we ain't movin'!)

Can I just buy extra keys without getting a new lock?

No, you can't. I'm guessing it's to prevent someone finding your old key and opening your mailbox.

Just sold my mothers home in the villages and they escrowed money at settlement for the keys to be returned at a later date. The fees should be covered by that escrow
