View Full Version : Question for our vegans
I'm curious and honestly don't mean to be argumentative, but wondered if you all use vegan soaps and cosmetics, hair care products? Do you wear leather shoes?

My daughter is VEGAN and does not buy leather shoes and all products she purchases are carefully scrutinized for animal products or to confirm they do not test on animals. It is a challeging lifestyle, but one she believes in and embraces.

We scrutinize the products we use, but not to point of doing without what we like.
We concern ourselves more with chlorine and other contaminates in the water, hence good filters.
Chlorine in the swimming pools, hence we're building a zero chemical pool, all natural.
Leather, sure until the animal is no longer eaten.
That is more of PETA extreme thing,

At what point in one's life should one become a vegan? I ask because the most natural thing is for a new born baby to exist on it's mother's milk. That would seem to me to indicate that it is quite natural for human beings to ingest animal protein.

THat my friend is species specific protein.
A steak, fish or poultry is not our species.
U have been dabbling about going to plant based diet for several months due to your condition have you?

As a Vegan, I do not use products that have been tested on animals, use vegan and cruelty free cosmetics and personal care products, ask the pharmacy for vegan prepared prescriptions and do not wear leather, fur, wool or silk. Of course I follow a Vegan diet at all times which can be hard when dining out in The Villages... kind of get tired of tossed salads and pasta. I try and live a Vegan lifestyle as much a possible but do know that some things in life are out of my control.

I eat mostly vegan because of my health and could care less about where my belt or shoes came from. As far as I'm concerned, animals are what nature provided and animals eat animals in the real world. So, why shouldn't we use them? I think you'll find that most people that don't eat animal or dairy products do it for their health, not because of some protective belief for animals. I can only speak for myself.

So does that mean that cannibalism is OK? I mean strictly from a health viewpoint.

Up in Alabama they use the manure from big feed lots (we all know how cruel they seem) and spread it on the cotton fields. So shouldn't cotton also be on the don't use list?

The days of the Ma and Pa farms are long gone, where possibly the animals may have had a better life. Now with the invention of factory farming the life of a farm animal whether it be cow, pig or chicken is torturous. Check out factory farming and slaughterhouse videos on the web. If I was a meat eater (which I am not) I would be very upset at the conditions the animals are subjected to and would not want to put that meat, milk or eggs into my body.

Every one makes their own choices. I have been vegan in the past, not using any animal products at all, including leather and only buying products that I knew we're not animal tested. Now I eat some dairy and eggs, but I always try to buy organic.
People have different reasons for choosing a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle, and certainly to eat healthy is a common one. But some people choose this lifestyle to limit the amount of cruelty in the world. Modern American factory-style animal farms are notorious for bad treatment of the animals.

I eat mostly vegan (about 98 or 99%) for the purpose of maintaining good health. I use ivory soap, leather shoes, belt and regular dandruf shampoo. I also drive a car and I understand that some animal products go into making cars.

It's really all about management. Does any one hunt? Wild is better than raised, in my researching the topic- primarily because of the feed hormones and antibiotics that are fed to mass produced animals. I can't eat meat because of digestive peoblems with it. Lots of studies link meat to heart disease and cancer. But whose dogs doesn't have a chew bone? and my leather sofa and car interior are much easier to clean than any cloth. Vinyl production causes pollution. So choose sensibly and if you eat or don't, it's up to you. We read that what comes out of our mouths is more important than what we put in, that was written 2000 years ago and is still true , to a point.

Is your car one of those electric deals, or is it petrol?
