Snowbird season or love bug season.

I'd rather deal with love bugs twice a year than snowbirds. It's not the traffic, crowded restaurants or the litter, it's the speeding golf carts. My cart does a maximum of 20mph and I'm constantly getting passed in a very unsafe manner.

No matter what, whether some of us are annoying or inspiring, idiots or savants, (full time or part time)
whether we have windblown bugs in our teeth, snakes in our grass or anoles in our frijoles,
I still LOVE it here.

Just saying--- I bet the majority villages residents was snowbirds at one time :what:and for one snow bird to snob another just cause now I'm one of the 90,000 (which would be the majority at the villages at any one time) don't give me the warm fuzzy message friendly town in America!!!

Sure it's not the full timer's :gc:with the FAST Golf carts trying to get to their all important Golf appointment:pepper2:? I sure some Long time snowbirds have upgraded but I suspect the majority rent. Renter carts don't go that fast do they??

Hi Joec1947. I was one of those speeders and then it occured to me that speed was not good for safety reasons and not good for my cart. So I too now have a cart that won't go over 20mph and i love it. I often travel pre-dawn and so I get headlights in my rear view mirror and will pull off the cart path and let these drivers by. I do feel badly for walkers because they fast moving carts have to be a little concerning to them. cst la vie

We are not snowbirds and I resent the stereotyping accusation that snowbirds are nothing but a big pain in the rear.

If not for snowbirds and younger people coming here to retire in their 50's and early 60's, it would be a giant, sedate Geriatric Estates. A glorified nursing home.

How in the world do long-time residents think they or their surviving family members will ever sell their homes if only full-time 80-90 year-olds are living here??

great response, ilovetv! I AM a snowbird and I resent the comparison to a pesty love bug!

it seems the op does not want to consider the other side of the coin which would indicate that he is being passed by OTHER yr-rounders who think they are entitled to do what they want to because they are yr-rounders.

now it's time to pass joe's thread in favor of participating in more positive discourse! ;)

Always carry a camera and your Lawyers card with you !!

I do find that people are people no matter what their status is;
Most people here are just fine .

I think the only reason snowbirds leave is they are afraid of our weather in the spring, Lightning storms , Tornado's , etc.
They must fear snow and cold also that's why they come here in the winter .

You are right Bill. I can't be 100% sure. When I posted, I had just come back from a long ride and was passed at least 4 times. As one passed me I yelled out to him asking if he was street legal and got the finger for a response. Maybe I should have waited to cool down before I posted. It doesn't change my mind about who I thought it was, just that I should not have posted it.

I guess I don't understand why someone gets so upset that they are passed by a golf cart. What difference does it make? Sometimes I get passed; sometimes I pass... I would NEVER consider yelling at someone for passing me in a cart.

I agree with memason. When traveling down from the northeast on I-95 I get passed by MANY other cars. When putting around here in my cart, if I get passed, I just wave...and enjoy the fact that I'm here.

We love the snowbirds - we don't like the extra traffic, etc. that comes with them. As iloveTV said, when snowbirds are here, there is excitement and a little more "life" here, which is fun. I absolutely love seeing my snowbird friends. But the traffic congestion, and all that goes along with it, is not fun. Not much you can do about it, so just grin and bear it.

Why are we constantly blaming "Snowbirds" for everything????? We are ONE big family here in The Villages!!! I don't like putting a label on one group and blaming them whenever there is a complaint. Without the "Snowbirds", I'm sure a lot of restaurants would not be in business today. They help us Villagers enjoy there business in the spring and summer months, when business slows down. Many of these complaints posted, happen in the spring and summer also. Who do we blame then, the "Sunbirds"??? How about we throw out some praise, here in The Villages, for the beautiful lifestyle we have here, and all those smiling faces you see everyday. I myself, feel very lucky living here and meeting more and more friends, and knowing more on here TOTV, that make me smile. Birds of a feather, flock together!!! Lets enjoy our nests!! Smile

Please re-read my posts. I said they were passing while it's was unsafe and I also said I yelled OUT to one of them not AT him. Gas carts are loud you know. So you think it's OK for a golf cart to pass unsafely while speeding and breaking the law? So that's the difference it makes.

Please re-read my posts. We're talking about golf carts passing Not CARS while it's unsafe and while they are speeding. I would estimate the speed at 25mph +. That's 25% over the speed limit and unless it's street legal it does not have the brakes required to stop it safely.

Why is it unsafe to pass you? What do care if they're breaking the law or not.

Don't get it...sorry. Oh, you yelled OUT to them, but not at them ??? Maybe the finger was out to you; not at you.

joec1947 - chill out! ya came back, ya explained your post [without apology to us snowbirds, btw]...no need to go on and on and get into a dither again!

it isn't as if passing in golf carts doesn't happen - and it isn't gonna stop - neither is the weaving and being cut off by cars out on the road.

ya can't blame everything on snowbirds! I read about all the off-season accidents on totv when I am back at the jersey shore dealing with all of the summer tourists there who are clogging our highways and neighborhood streets, our restaurants and bars, and our beaches; or peeing on lawns when returning to their cars after the bars close; as well as inconveniencing us natives in all manner of vacationing, touristy ways!

when ya take the golf cart out - be prepared - know that you're gonna get passed - that's life - roll with it - you'll live longer!

Street legal golf cart (LSVs) are allowed to go up to 25 mph if I'm not mistaken.
My cart goes 22. Is 25 and 22 really all that much faster than 20?
What drives me crazy is people driving there golf carts around with the accelerator pedal half way down going 12 mph.
I'm not in a hurry to get to my "all important golf appointment" but so what if I were. I want to get to wherever I'm going and I don't think that 20 or 22 mph is unreasonable.

I think that it's nice when the snowbirds are here. All the clubs are full of interesting people and there seems to be much more to do.
It seems to me that a lot of people on this forum just like to find things to complain about.
Some people are not happy unless they are complaining about something.
We live in the greatest place in the world. I find very little to complain about. The fact that can go so many places on a golf cart is amazing to me. We have so many great activities to keep us busy. Free entertainment in the squares and other places. Cheap movie theaters. No snow. Great weather year round.
Golf carts go a few miles an hour over the speed limit??? Really, that's a problem???

I don't see any value in dividing the community into full-time, snowbirds, snowflakes, renters, or whatever. Yes, during the "high" season, this place gets crowded. Harder to get desired tee times or courses. Harder to get desired classes. More people who don't understand how to navigate the roundabouts. More people who don't know how to operate golf carts on our paths.

Seasonal residents are invested in our community through their purchase of a home. Why denigrate them just because they cannot be here full time?

Those of us who are here full-time get to enjoy this place when the pace is slower and quieter. When you can play at whatever you want almost whenever you want.

Mikeod - I think you might be onto something. It would be a warmer, friendlier Village if we addressed the problems at this time as "high season" issues rather than snowbirds, renters or space aliens being responsible. It's simply comes down to too many people in one place at one time, but shouldn't be blamed on any one group but the fact that it is "high season". Just a thought.

"accelerator pedal half way down going 12 mph. " rent carts only go 12 mph.. Remember only you residents upgrade you cart to go faster. When we was there with the cart provided it would only go 1/2 speed of resident golf carts (I think the idea is safety new people getting use to cartways) Most people understood that and deal with it afterall very few it any was born on the property.

As on any road if someone going too slow you pass. Speed is moving voliation and guessing their speed is left up to us without the badge and radar gun. I can guess someone is speeding but it IMO......... Some people want to go 20 and 19 MPH just flustrated the "H" out of them. So they will pass, but don't expect everybody to pull over cause they want to go faster.

I am a tourist there (least ways for now) and don't take it personal. I have been coming there since 2007 and on this forum for a long time. Just have to take the good with bad like anywhere! Just sayin.
