Are there any green thumb...do it yourself people..out there??? Looking to find out what would be a good fertilizer for the lawn.. Maybe something you have had success with. Also.. What kind of grass do we have here?? Anyone know?? I know there are great landscapers out there.. but hubby wants to give it a go.. Any help would be great..

What I learned by attending the most recent Twice on Tuesdays landscape class:

Fertilizer should have a 1-1 or at most a 2-1 ratio between the first number and third number (nitrogen and potassium, respectively).

15-0-15 is sufficient.

The total nitrogen content should be 15% (at least) to 30% (ipreferred) slow release. Determine the percentage of slow release nitrogen by reading the bag...look for terms as "water insoluble" or "polymer coated".

Fertilize April to October, 3-6 times total. Less is more. 4 applications, with maybe an iron supplement during summer, should be sufficient for most empire zoysia lawns.

Use no more than 1/4 in of water to wster in the fertilizer application. Never saturate in a fertilizer application. Do not apply fertilizer if heavy rains are forecast.
