Anyone know how much the bands are paid at the town squares? Just curious.

Also....when did TV begin to hire DJs at the town squares? I was under the impression we were to have live entertainment every night.......

We are fortunate to have any entertainment. You are not paying for it so enjoy the gift. All salaries are confidential, as they should be.

DJ's have been around for the 11 years I have been here and I haven't seen a dead one yet. They all seem to be live to me! But I'm sure the bands are not all paid the same. Better bands get better pay, as they should!

I went to a wedding once and saw a dead DJ. You could poke him with a stick and he would not move. But when the food came out, look out !

Live music is not provided by a DJ...that is recorded music. When we were looking to purchase here in TV, we were told there was a live band and singers in the squares every evening. To me, this does not include a DJ spinning recordings.

The entertainment in the town squares is paid for by the merchants in the town squares and the entertainment department who hires the entertainers on the squares has recently been sold by The Villages to the people who ran it before, The Vescos.

You can ask the Vescos or ask some of the merchants on the square who pay for it about why it has changed and whether it will change back.

"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."

Maybe you should pay double the price of drinks at the bar huts, to cover the cost of live bands every night. So far, the developer pays for the costs that revenues there do not cover.

Nothing lasts forever, remember Buffalos and Parades? We're lucky to have any entertainment, DJs or otherwise - enjoy it while you can!

No entertainment, at least that would solve the "reserved chairs" problem!:jester:

Every cloud has a silver lining. :girlneener: I keep hoping the entertainment will be around forever, but when build out comes, it's an unknown!

And I will still love it here in The Villages.

Whatever happens, The Villages will always be topnotch, IMHO.

I suspect there will be entertainment after the build-out since it is funded primarily by the square merchants. Whether it continues to be every night at all three squares is another question.

I was under the impression, there will always be live music in all the squares, even after TV is built out. I didn't give it a second thought that there would not be live music every night. This was part of the sale's pitch we got when we had our LSV.

Coffeebean - How pathetic you're getting some of these responses for asking your questions. When I first read your opening post I thought "hmmm. Interesting". Did not expect some of the replies. I'm sure a lot of people are curious what the entertainers get paid. I'm also pretty sure a lot of people know the difference between a DJ & Live entertainment.

I didn't see anything in your post that made me think you we're unhappy with the entertainment.

I felt like I was in grammar school reading some of the replies.

I wish someone would take a poll on how many people on here feel intimidated asking questions.

#1-I agree, a live person playing music from a box is not live entertainment. Would any of you consider you car radio "live entertainment"? There is a live person at the radio station talking and playing records.

#2- "The developer pays for it." Are you serious? The developer pays for nothing. We the residents of the Villages pay for everything through our amenities fee. The developer simply takes our money and gives it someone else.

I'm not complaining about this as this is the way life works. But I really hate to see anything less than a full band playing live music in the squares. We often drive by and if I don't see a drum set, we usually keep driving.

The DJs and "band in a box" entertainers are there simply to save money. You can pay one person a lot less than five.

How about getting the entertainment division back from a private party and into the hands of the residents?

Totally agree with you doc. On nights they have "caned"music they could have the sound man play music or turn up the music that they play on the speakers around the squares all day. Then they could lower my amenities fees because they are already paying someone to play that music.

First I must say that the entertainment at the squares is not as important to some as it is to others.

And Dr. Boogie, please don't wish for the entertainment division to be governed by the residents. We all have extremely different views on EVERYTHING. I can't imagine what it would like when the Country Western advocates would take on the Bach Beethoven bunch and the hue and the cry in the background from the gospel music lovers and the jazz aficiandos and a few who would want Gregorian Chant...... It would be a huge hairy mess and I would NEVER get to hear the Beach Boys stuff again. :(

I still say we have it good here. Really good here. Thirty year olds want to move here. Thirty year olds are moving here.

I'm sorry, I don't get it. I have been here 13 years and feel blessed that we have venues with music every night. It's awesome ! But..... complaining because it's a DJ and not "LIVE" music. I would think there are way more important things to complain about. Just sayin' .
I will say what is nice about a DJ is they have all the songs & can play virtually anything.

Entertainment at the squares is paid for by the merchants, not our amenities fees. That's both good and bad. On one hand, it means there is more money for other activities. On the other, it means the merchants who fund it, may decide it is not worth it and withdraw funding. I agree this is unlikely, but it's possible. Since the squares are owned by the central districts, and therefore the developer, the residents will have to negotiate to use the squares for entertainment if they decide to fund their own. And, it is certainly possible the group that bought the entertainment division also got exclusive use of the squares for the evening period, which adds another party to deal with.

So, enjoy the entertainment as long as it is there.

coffeebean - here's one of my impressions - there will always be change; some of which we plan and some which we do not and just hafta live with.

and here's some advice - don't swallow a sales pitch - from anyone! even guarantees in contracts are usually covered by some generic legalese protection providing for the event of change.

Many, I'm sure. I know I do. When I first moved here and posted on TOTV, some made me feel welcome and were very helpful, but, unfortunately, more were mean, condescending and hurtful. I saw this happen to others along the way and I was determined never to do that to anyone.
