Okay....not too much posted about schools.
I understand that this is an over 55 (80% or so)
Why no mention of schools?
Just curious, our children are grown....but I am assuming that there are schools?

Yes there are. My daughter and granddaughter located to Lady Lakes when we moved to TV. Bella is 6 and in the first grade. She goes to The Villages Elementary School. That is not the Villages Charter School. Since my daughter just got a job working for the State (in TV) our topic of conversation is usually over which school is better for Bella. Checking things out.

The schools attract young workers/professionals who might otherwise be reluctant about school quality if they were to move here.

See other posting about the villages charter school. See if this would be the school that would interest you. Lots of problems there.

I guess trying to figure out how to get that last darn 4 or 5 % to go to college is a problem.

Isn't that a bit misleading if you are refering to the other post on the charter school.

Paulanjean, I have no dog in this fight. I sense you are not a fan of The Villages Charter Schools and in the above post you mentioned " Lots of problems there."

What do you see as specific problems at The Villages Charter Schools.

Not sure we made it clear to the original poster that all the schools - public and charter - are for children living outside The Villages. Children are barred from residing or visiting more than 30 days within the Villages (except for Spring Arbor and one or two other "family" villages that are golf cart accessible but cannot use the typical Villages amenities - rec centers, pools and exec. golf courses).

That's why there's not a lot of mention of schools on this site. None of us have children 18 or under who live with us, at least if we are here more than 30 days a year.

Not really sure where you got the idea that 95% of the students attend college. If you are referring to the number that Dr. McDaniel talks about every year, that's not entirely accurate. They ask the students about their intentions at the beginning of their senior years. As the year progresses, they chart on a wall, or at least they did up to two years ago, where the students are going and what financial committments they have recieved. At the graduation, Dr. McDaniel then remarks on this number. It is not even close to the number of students that actually attend in the fall. The number is significantly lower for the number of students still enrolled starting the second year.
If you think about that 95% number, you would have to question it just on a statistical basis. The graduating class is usually between 100 and 150. That would mean less than 10 students will not attend college! They have at least 5-10 each year that join the service. Not to mention, the 10-30 kids without the grades to get into a school or end up working for The Villages or one of their satelite companies.
I'm not dinging on the school, just wish we could have honest conversations about it........

Then can you say that MANY go on to further education? Or what is it exactly that you think is wrong with The Villages Charter Schools?

Not sure how the FL schools are but have heard (and this is just hear-say) that there are people who want to get jobs in The Villages just so their children may attend the schools here (Charter schools that is). To me that is a far greater testimony than hearing "I hear they're terrible" or whatever....

Most schools have problems! You can send your children to a private Christian school hoping for a conservative atmosphere. That being said...they too will have issues with children and drugs and premartal issues (pregnacy etc). The object of schools isn't for them to form our children and their values (while they can be a force to help with that)---it's up to the parents to be parents and instill into their children from birth on how they must live successfully in society. Helping give them a work-ethic (which is sorely missing today) and more.....

Just my humble opinion.....

but, I forgot to mention that immediate families who live in the 3 county area (Marion, Sumter, Lake) can get special passes to be guests of parents/grandparents/great-grandparents who do live in the Villages. They still can't live here, but they can visit.

Also, let's say you have grandchildren 18 or under who live in Orlando or Tampa. Certainly they can visit you (maybe not technically) more than 30 days; they just can't get guest passes for more than 30 days.
