From a design and/or practical perspective, what is your preference of having columns or no columns in the dining area of a Gardenia or Begonia model?

Depends on the style of decor you are aiming for. We liked them with out beachy cottagy style in our house in Hadley.

The columns look nice and I have them in our home. I like them and they do set off the dining room.

Strictly from a practical point of you you're better off with out them. That allows you to open the dining room table up to a larger size if needed to seat more people. And if you decide to do something other then use it as a dining room, it gives you more flexibility.

If I was building a new home today I would opt out on columns.

Have them in our new Gardenia. It was on our "want" list. When we got down to choosing betwen 3 or 4 spec homes, the ones without went to the bottom of the list. To us, it really sets the dining room off, otherwise it just looks like a big space. Others may feel differently, that is why there is a choice.

We have them in our Camelia....It was a battle to get them and I won this one. Can't think of anymore wins lately

Just closed on a Begonia and choose not to have them, wanted the open, casual feel. Love it!

Gardenia, without. Didn't want anything blocking the view out the sliders from anywhere.

Our current Gardenia and also the one we are building are no column models.
We enjoy the openness inside and the clear view to outside that not having columns provides.

Additionally, we are fairly laid back folks. If we had a more formal lifestyle, we would opt for columns.

We chose to not have columns...they are lovely but more formal appearing than our decor.

We LOVE our columns. It defines the space. Frankly, we asked the same question a few months back. We are very happy we went with the columns.

Just met a couple had they are building a Gardenia and they had the columns installed on the master bedroom wall. They also extended the nook out four feet which we did not know about when we built ours.

Ditto. We like the open feeling. When we were house hunting, we felt the models with column were restricting the view from the kitchen out through the lanai.
