At approximately 12:30 pm on 3/22 my husband and I came upon a gentleman that was collapsed and unconscious on the bench next to the golf cart path at 466A & Canal street. A few people were already stopped and calling 911 as we pulled up. We lowered the gentleman to the ground and my husband began to administer CPR before the paramedics arrived. We do not know who the man was or if he survived what appeared to be a heart attack. If anyone knows who this gentleman is or his condition please let us know. We are keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers!!

I hope we're able to find out his condition. We stopped by the fire department but all they could tell us was that he had a pulse when they arrived at the hospital.

I agree. I feel so bad for him, he was all alone in his hour of need and yet our wonderful community stopped to help him. I pray he is okay.

Ironically we were recently at a Sanibel meeting to discuss the installation of AED machines throughout the neighborhood as well as CPR training. Today's events are certainly a testament to the importance of everyone learning CPR. We were just driving by on our way to the golf course. You never know when or where you'll need life saving skills!

Someone asked me if the man was driving a golf cart. He was not. It appears he was walking along the path and sat down on the bench. Maybe this bit of information can help to find out who he is and if he survived.

We were there yesterday too. When we went to Colony he wasn't around at that time. On our way back about 30 minutes later was when we saw him and the people doing CPR. We have also wondered what happened to him?
He was wearing a wedding band and I was very concerned if his spouse was at home waiting for him. Thank God we live in a place where people stop and help each other.

This incident is a reminder to have ID with us when we go out walking or exercising. It would be horrible to have something happen and not have our loved ones with us.

Fortunately he had a drivers license on him but my husband and I were so focused on CPR that we didn't check his pockets for ID. We noticed the paramedics pulled a drivers license from his pocket and hand it off but we didn't have a chance to see who he was and they didn't share that information. My husband and I have re-lived this moment over and over in the past 24 hours asking ourselves all kinds of questions. All you can do when in that situation is evaluate things as best you can, do what you can to help the person, and hope for the best. Hindsight is always 20/20. Would we do anything differently under the circumstances?....ABSOLUTELY NOT! And we hope that should we ever be the one sitting on a park bench our fellow villagers wouldn't hesitate to do the same thing!

Please do keep in mind that emergency services will not, and in some states, can not share patient information unless you are related or have a legal responsibility for an individual.
I am certain your efforts were/are appreciated by many here. Thank you.

Because I am single and living alone, I ALWAYS have my cell phone with me even as I walk into different rooms of my house. As Skip suggested, my ICE numbers are already set up with emergency numbers, my allergies and health conditions listed, my home address and the fact that 2 puppies are at home waiting for mommy to come home. God forbid my puppies wouldn't be taken care of. :(

Got my ICE numbers but not sure where to put info on my dog. I guess I need to remove my password for anyone to be able to get into my phone!

That was my dad. THANKS to all of you who helped him. Sadly, he died Saturday night. I live in Tallahassee and was southbound by 2:30 pm Friday. At 2am Saturday two of my brothers and two sisters showed up so we were with mom when he died. Needless to say, it's been an rotten week. But, the good thing is he was healthy until the end and he had been out doing his 5+ mile daily walk. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I've been following this post, praying for your father and anxious to hear the outcome. Thank you for letting us all know what happened. If my father dies after having a nice walk in a beautiful place, attended to by kind concerned people, with a loving family surrounding him...well, that would be wonderful. Having lost my mother recently, my thoughts are certainly with you. Blessings to your family.

Janine W. We are so sorry for the loss of your father. We were there that day and know that he wasn't there long before somebody found him and started CPR. It seemed like he didn't suffer any pain. We did wonder what had happened after he was taken away by EMS thank you for letting us know.

So sorry for your loss! It reminds my of my grand mothers passing years ago. It was just 2 days after her 87th birthday, She spent the previous day with sveral nieces and family. Then went to her church senior club and had a birthday party that morning, my Dad picked her up and that afternoon she was with sveral other relatives talking about the good times! When I got off work we all went out for a great dinner. She commented how happy she was to have such great family and friends to spend time with. Then not more then 10 minutes later in the back seat of my dad's car, which she loved that caddilac so much, God called her to his side! She had a massive heart attack but like your father she was with true friends and family when she past doing everything she enjoyed!

Please cherish the time you still have to spend with your mother. I feel so blessed that that God has given me this time now in my retirement to still enjoy every minute with my now 88 year old parents right here in The Villages. I added an addtion for them and now they to are thrilled to be here in this great community.

Again take care of your mom and God Bless you and your families.

May God bless your family and support you in this difficult time.

As others have mentioned, I am reminded of my own father's passing. He just dropped dead in the company of my mother while there were returning a rental car after a wonderful train ride from Louisiana to Maryland to visit me and my children. Through the kindness of strangers (the employees in the rental car office who administered CPR) a heartbeat was restored. We let him go 22 hours later at the hospital, but in those 22 hours he was surrounded by family and friends and we were able to say goodbye. This was a while ago and we were only allowed two at a time in the room with him. Everyone came out saying that even though they spoke words of comfort to him that he did not respond. I went in the room with our priest and just started asking him questions. He responded, not with words as the medical equipment prevented him from speaking, but he responded, so I know that he heard us and knew that we were there.

I am sure that your father knew that you were there too and took great comfort from that. So, once again may God give you comfort during this difficult time and may God also bless the strangers who helped him allowing your family the time to be with him at the end.

Janine, we are so very sorry for your loss. My husband and I have talked about your father often since that day wondering about the outcome and hoping his family was able to be with him in time. I'm so glad he passed surrounded by family and love. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in the days ahead. There was an item that belonged to your father that I forgot to hand to the paramedics. We took it to the fire station later that day. I just want to be sure you received it. Please feel free to email me directly if you need any further information.
