It's ironic that you posted this today as I just started reading "Proof of Heaven" yesterday while flying back to T.V.
This book was written by a previously non-believing neurosurgeon who had a near death experience.
I have yet to get to that part of the book that the author indicates, in interviews, describes the scientific explanation of why he now believes in the "Proof of Heaven."
What I've read so far is thru the middle of his brain dead experience and the journey he traveled. It's interesting, he's very vivid and almost overly expressive. Even though I am a believer, I have yet to make up my mind on what I think about his experience.
It is an interesting read so far.
And please ...no spoilers; Thanks!

Great book. Read it many years ago. Got so into it I went to the Library and tried to read "The Tibetan Book Of The Dead" which was referenced in the book.
Fascinating reading !

I also began reading "Proof of Heaven" by Eben Alexander M.D.
Downloaded it to my Kindle from amazon yesterday and just began it today; I was actually quite impressed with his style of writing and thus, read the prologue and first chapter aloud to my hubby..........hoping he would want to also put the book on his Kindle.........
He's certainly well educated..........U.N.C. at Chapel Hill, Duke University Medical School, Harvard, etc., etc.........if my memory is right.
The good doctor admits he was a scientist through and through..........and we all know how scientists feel about "the unknown".........so I can't wait to read the book.
I've always enjoyed the personality of people who have "open minds" on any subject and are NOT rigid in their beliefs in general.
We had other things to do today, but I will get back to the book tomorrow.
Eben Alexander will be appearing locally in April to discuss his book.

Me too. I just look at it like moving from one "house to another house". When you move from a house you used to live in friends can't find you in your old house, you have moved on. When you move from your earthly body friends can't find you in the earthly body as you have moved on. When you move from a house you use to live in your friends / family are sad because they no longer live near you but you're excited for the change to a new location. When you move from your earthly body, friends / family are sad because they no longer have your company but you're excited for the change to a new location

This is true. I love experiencing my earthly visit, but I can't wait until I move on to the rest of my life in Heaven and that is exactly why I have chosen the name "cantwaittoarrive" it had nothing to do with TV. Life on earth is only +/- 100 years life in Heaven is what we should strive to attain.

"Life after Life" by Dr. Moody was one of the first I read a very long time ago. Thank you for mentioning those books..........
Don't understand the "scoffers"......best to keep an open mind about these things............plus some folks are just more in tune with things spiritual or unseen......
Anyway, how can any of us put a "damper" on someone elses reality?
"FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE, NO EXPLANATION IS NECESSARY.
FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE, NO EXPLANATION IS POSSIBLE."
What clear and thoughtful commentary; thanks so much for posting this.
For what it's worth, the best friend of a cousin of mine is a psychic. Her explanation for this is what I emphasized above in part of the quoted comments. This woman has been called on by her local police to do everything from finding a body to locating evidence and has done things like this time and again. She has also served people in her community in matters relevant to her abilities.
She makes one point about her ability to do this that she says is crucial, and that is that it's a gift that she's been given, and it's her responsibility to use that gift to serve others. Consequently, she absolutely and categorically refuses, EVER, to accept any form of payment or gift or do anything (such as a lecture circuit or a book) that would generate personal income for her, stemming from her using her psychic abilities. She feels that it would be simply wrong to "capitalize" on her psychic abilities and does not agree with those who say that there is benefit to sharing what it's all about for her and be somehow paid for doing so. Her view is to simply use the skills to serve others. I mention this without comment other than to explain that this is simply her point of view....

The woman in the video is an orthopedic surgeon, so I'm surprised, being a woman of science, that she didn't realize that her brain was NOT dead, and also that her body would have been flooded with natural pain killing hormones or endorphins. These hormones act like opiate drugs, so what she likely had was a really nice drug-like dream-state-of-mind.

Best sensible response so far. It is wonderful to have hope and belief in miracles, but you must consider all possibilities based on what we know to be factual and that includes science as well.

Perhaps orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons know more than the general public about what is happening in their brains, being people of science.

I somehow doubt public speaking is as profitable as neurosurgery!

With my limited knowledge and from the point of view of actual dollars, I would be inclined to agree, but I suspect a neurosurgeon knows the field a lot better than we do. I have a neurosurgeon friend who is superb in his field which he keeps as limited as possible, seeing himself primarily as a photographer and doing public service work in this area (for which he does not charge, I might add)! I have another friend, also a physician specialist, who urged his daughter not to enter the field. She took his advice and, still wishing to devote herself to a medical career, is now studying in veterinary college. And while most of us don’t know them personally, look at the number of doctors who leave their field to enter politics. There are likely countless reasons why doctors seek an income elsewhere—reasons that we cannot possibly know. And for them, as long as they’re making money, maybe there is more to life than the actual amount of profitability.

There are really some much deeper issues related to this topic.
I doubt many of us can approach the topic without some sort of bias.
There is no doubt that there is no scientific proof, which is the human standard. For that matter, there is not enough anecdotal proof such that you would likely be convinced of a lesser claim. At best, you might come to the conclusion that a negative is difficult to prove (prove something doesn't exist).
If someone claimed they were able to transport them self to another area of our universe and converse with ET in a flash, so quick that, to the observer, they never appeared to leave... would you believe them?
Some of this has to do with people's spiritual and religious belief systems which are based on hope and faith.
BTW all major religions teach or describe some form of life after death.
As is increasingly the case about many questions... you can read a summary on Afterlife - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_after_death)

Did you read Dr. Eben Alexander's book? He was not religious.
He was very scientifically oriented in his thinking. He is a brain surgeon, educated at the finest universities and worked at the best hospitals.....and is a professor. He didn't come across as flaky in his book......
Flaky was the "My Redneck Vacation" segment when they all went to AREA 51 and met with the very flaky people who invited them into their home to communicate with the aliens. Now, that is flaky. Not Dr. Alexander.
My comments were not intended to be about him or his book, but about any fantastic claim by anyone.
I have not read the book. I will be getting it from the library.
My comments on religion were just an observation that faith oriented bias might cause some to take the account as "proof".

Is there a club/group in TV that shares near-death experiences? When I say near death I am referencing an out of body experience while one is 'dead'.......like what I had when I had my heart attack and 'died' in my living room and had to be 'paddled' to start my heart again.

Amen! People who are curious should read all the true accounts of those who've died and gone to heaven (and hell) and then returned to their bodies to tell others what happens after their spirits leave their bodies. The Bible tells us the whole truth from God. :-)

An old girlfriend of mine had always called me at 11 o'clock on the day of my birthday. We dated for 7 years (we were between 19-26) and then went our separate ways. We never lost our feelings for each other and although she was now married and had two kids of her own, she still made that phone call every year (despite her husbands disapproval) . When cancer took over her body at 40 years old, I visited her on her death bed. She told me then, "No matter what happens, I'll call you on your birthday...I promise"
Two months later, on my birthday on February 4th I got a phone call at exactly 11 o'clock. When I picked up the receiver the phone was full opf static before the call went dead. Whoever called never make a return call. (There was no caller ID in those days) Could it have been a wrong number or could it have been...... WE will never know, but although not a spiritual person I tend to lean toward the belief that it was her calling. I wrote a story in my writing college class about the experience and titled the story "A Call from Heaven." I got an A Plus on the story and hope to have it published with a collection of other stories some day.

I also have had the knowledge (it is all from our Dear Lord and His love for all) of my loved ones before and when they died since I was a child, even though I was in a different location sometimes. When I worked worked for Hospice, I experienced so many things with the patients, that has made me into a very strong believer b/c of it. I believe strongly that the reason is to tell others... :-)
