Since there will be thousands of residents south of 466A what would you like to see. Just a few things on my wish list....a TooJays in Brownwood, a hospital (would love to see an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic) on 44 with an emerygency room that can treat you within a REASONABLE amount of time. A Lowes and a fitness center and a Walmart Super Center (you could go broke shopping at Publix). What is your wish?

Some new eating establishments, something other than the one's we already have in Spanish Springs and Sumpter Landing.

Me too Jeanne! I also shop for staples at Walmart but am addicted to the bakery at Publix and the ALWAYS WARM and PLEASANT and HELPFUL staff at our Publix store. Also the produce section looks much cleaner than Walmart.
If only they carried Worthmore's Mock Turtle Soup like Krogers does in Cincinnati.

I LOVE Publix. Compared to the other options, Publix wins hands down. I have shopped them all, I really like Fresh Market, but their prices are way out of sight. I have only twice gone into Sweetbay and the smell was so bad I won't go back. The otherhalf was in there recently for something and he mentioned "the peculiar smell in there". WallyMart does not do it for me either.
Publix is super clean, great staff who will do anything to help you, and carries just about everything I need.

Costco just raised their initiation fee. I let others decide if it was too much.
I hope all of you south of 466A get your wish. It will be beneficial for you and for the residents south of 466.
I can find all of the stores mentioned outside TV and at this point enjoy getting out of dodge with my wife to shop. so it is an enjoyable ride to Orlando, Ocala, etc. Miss Albertson here and in Mount Dora now all have disappeared from the area
We like Publix but also Sweet Bay Winn Dixie, Aldi's, Sam's and shop all of them for one reason or another.
I am being really really nice today because it my birthday and my wife says that the way I act today will be the way I'll act the rest of the year. So I am going to tread lightly all day and will defer as to how I will behave tomorrorw:D

The survey that each of us submit yearly has a huge portion of our wants for businesses of every kind that are surely submitted to those businesses. One of the things that has happened is that much of our growth has happened in the last eight to ten years and the people who do the math, the demographers that large businesses consult have obviously missed us or didn't take a "little retirement community" seriously.
Economics 101...we are just recovering in this country from a major MAJOR economic downturn. Money for expansion has not been at the top of the lists for most businesses.
Things are beginning to look up for the country but no one has had the BOOM we have had here.
You don't just "open" a store. You have to contract for the lease for years and hire people to staff it and make a major financial commitment.
We have been here almost six years and you wouldn't believe the businesses that have come here in that time.

All for the Dunkin Donuts, Ace is already S/O 466A, as for Publix I wish people who feel they're to expensive would go somewhere else to shop as it wouldn't be so crowded then, COSTCO would be nice as would Home Goods. As for another Hospital I don't think that's the answer. Maybe a few additional Urgent cares that stay open later.

I think the reason that people are down on Publix is that it is really expensive compared to any other market (except Fresh Market) and it is ungodly crowded. Even when the snowbirds go back its crowded. It's not their fault but I think, for,the most part, that's why people grump about it.

Could not help but notice that also. Personally I would like to see another bowling alley, dog park, tennis courts and baseball fields. Do not believe any of those are currently planned for south of 466A.
FYI: The library in the County bldg, 466A & Powell Rd, will be easily accessible via golf carts once the construction in that area is completed.

It's hard for me to understand why you are all so down on Publix. I find shopping at Publix to be the pleasantest hour of my week!
Public is way too crowded and noisy. Constantly being bumped into by others doesn't conjure up any sense of pleasantly to me. The Walmart in The Villages is less expensive, has other things besides groceries (get it all done at once) and is THE absolute cleanest Walmart I have ever been in. We would absolutely love a Walmart down south. I like grocery stores that are 'super' stores-- have many things besides groceries. Up in the NW we shop at one of these called Fred Meyer, which is a step or two up from Walmart.

Not to get off subject to much but I need to explain my thoughts about Publix. They may offer some items others do not have and great customer service but at what price? I had never been to Publix before my Lifestyle visit but here are two items that opened my eyes. 1.) Lay's Light Potato Chips $3.99 / bag compared to $3.48 at Walmart. 2.) Coke 2 liter bottle 1.99 compared to $1.38 at Walmart. Bottom line is that Walmart is making a profit !
Take your receipt and comparison shop....you could probably fill up your golf cart all year round just on the savings.

I love Walgreens, have never liked CVS, but I am surprised that CVS hasn't built near the Walgreens at Colony....in Orlando, if CVS built, then Walgreens was sure to follow. there is a Walmart in Fruitland Park very close to TV. There is a CVS at the corner of 44 and 301. there is a Winn-Dixie across the street from the CVS. There is an Ace Hardware in Wildwood with superior customer service the best that I've seen anywhere in or surrounding TV!

The potato chips are a good example of name-brand products being BETTER in the store's own brand, at half the price. I find that in all major supermarket chains north and south, the store's own label is better product.....with more of it, for half the price of the brand-name.
As for WalMart making a profit.....yes, "but at what price?" Local businesses killed off by Walmart's no-wholesaler model would be glad to tell you "at what price".

Too Jay's Original Gourmet Deli (Brownwood), West Torch Lake Dr., The Villages, FL. (American) (Deli) B/L/D. Their third location in The Villages will be located at Paddock Square in Brownwood. Construction is underway and the Deli will be part of Phase 2 and open in late 2013

On the Publix issue, it's a fine store, but the one in Colony always looks like the day before a hurricane; just tons of people. As for hardware, there is a farm store right across 44 from Brownwood that is an excellent store with tons of tools and other hardware items, including a huge pet supplies department. Give it a try if you need hardware or building materials, or just feed for your steers.

In some instances you may be right. The example I sighted was on name brands carried in both stores. A prime example would be the Walmart supercenter that was erected on the old Gator Hole driving range in North Myrtle Beach where we vacation annually. Since it opened at least 40 "new" businesses have opened around it with "new" employees. So when the house is built in TV we may shop for a few things at Publix but, the bulk will be at Walmart. I will enjoy the trip with the golf cart to Colony Shell, filling the tank on our continual savings. I suggest some loyal Publix customers take their most recent receipt to Walmart and compare. It may be an enlightening experience that will not lighten your wallet!

We Also miss Menards and of course my favorite Meijer's. I talked to a store rep before we moved and he said that Meijer's is looking at the Florida market. I told him to check out the villages area since there are a lot of people from the Midwest. (Michigan, Ohio,Indiana and Illinois.) that was 2 years ago. Someday maybe

Have you tried Sparr...across from brownwood...more inventory, great service, and better prices than ACE.

How about a decent place to get a coffee. I think Dunkin Donuts would do real well. I have to drive far to get to the one across town. I live in Collier village.
I am going to play Devils' Advocate and wish for a Tim Hortons Coffee Shop. All Canadians are in love with "Timmies" and they are in a lot of NE States, but none south of Ohio.
With FL having so many Snowbirds, I am sure they would do well here.
Also, I would like a Bass Pro that is closer than Orlando.

I don't mind Publix either (their still #1 with me), BUT VARIETY is the SPICE of life! So NEW STORES would be appreciated! #1 HOME GOODS/MARSHALLS! #2 STEINMART (since Macy's would be pushing it) #3 WAWA (OR ANY convenience) store, do love our WAWA though! #4 HAVERTY'S!!!! Just a thought

I know that this is a 'wish list' thread...but it makes me wonder how far people had to travel from their former residences to get to something they miss having close to them here? Is travel from the Brownwood area to Southern Trace/Lake Sumter really an inconvenience? Were your stores/services back home really closer than they are here? My house in Maine is at least a 15 min drive from everywhere - but we knew that when we bought there.

Agree with the need for a good ACE! Not fun having to drive to Wildwood or farther to buy (or often, TRY to buy) common hardware items. It needs to be within 5-10 minutes, by cart, of Brownwood and cart accessible.

A Super WAWA would be awesome...it would take care of a convenience store, a coffee shop, a sandwich shop, a gas station, and although not in jersey, it would also have a beer cooler. They are now in Fl...so why not The Villages????

Wondering the same thing. A large percentage of this wish list is already here in The Villages or really close by. These corporations are not going to open a second or third location in a very seasonal small (relatively speaking) area.
The Villages has grown..when we first arrived (15) years ago, we had to drive for many things. The growth has been awesome, but most of what has been "wished" for is here, and duplicating it south of 466, in most cases, is not going to happen.

My wife and I were in Orlando a couple weeks ago and ate at Abuelos Mexican Restaurant. We mentioned to the manager that we thought they should open one in The Villages. He said that he was one of the people that looked for new sites and would check it out. If anyone gets to Abuelos, please speak to the manager and put in a word.
Most people have not heard of The Villages and don't realize the potential we have here.

Trader Joes, cheaper gas, more executive courses. new and different restaurants. I think Hooters would go over about as well as TGIF did. Of course, I am opposed to Hooters at several different levels. :icon_bored:

Since we are wishing, I wish for additional golf courses. It's getting hard to get a tee time 1-3 days out due to all the " edit " arriving. As far as other things like stores, I vote for Lowes, Home Depot, Panera, Chipote, a Golf Specialty store, and any decent size sporting goods store (Dicks, Bass Pro, Gander, Field & Stream).

A decent dog park that is flat, with grass, a little shade, and you don't have to get there by golf cart. Some dogs can't ride on carts and the only decent dog park in TV is the one behind Nancy Lopez and you can only get to it by cart or walking. My dog is pooped by the time we walk up there.

I definitely agree with the Chipolte. Those who haven't had it don't know what they are missing. We had it in Ohio and loved it. I even e-mailed them about a year ago to encourage them but didn't hear back.

My wish list would include: Home Goods, Trader Joe's, Costco, and a Bahama Breeze restaurant. I agree with many others; it seems we keep getting the same chain restaurants and I would like to see something different. By the way, does anyone know what is going to be built on 44 across from the chevy dealership...more homes? Certainly looks big enough to handle a nice shopping center!

a dog park,
why not use the dog parks that are available, instead of any common area, including the pool/mailbox area/cart paths. don't you owners have your own patch of grass?
I agree with everything you wanted except a fitness center. There already is one at Brownwood. How do we even go about asking for what we want?

We've got Walmarts etc in TV but need more variety. How about Sears, but doubt it since they are in financial trouble. Penny's would be nice but they are too. I miss these two expecially when they both had auto centers and were great places to buy tires, tools, sporting goods and clothes. So.......my wishes are simple, just give me a few gas stations and a couple places for a full breakfast menu.

I personally don't like to have all the shops and restaurants around the house or close to my front door because I like to discover place to eat or shop in a greater golf-cart distance.
What I am really missing in TV is a facility with a sauna, hot steam room and yes, a indoor pool is welcome, too.
When they constructed the new gym at Brownwood I thought that would be a a nice thing to put in and offer for an additional little fee.
