For anyone who is planning on moving to Florida and for those already here.....it is so important that you have your dogs on some brand of heartworm prevention medicine. All it takes is one bite. You say, "My dog is a house dog. So I don't have to worry." You let your dog out to pee and all it takes is a split second to get one mosquito bite.
I was shocked that people do not have their dogs on this preventative. I took in a dog that was not on it. Luckily, he tested negative. Just recently Florida Dachshund Rescue have taken in two doxies that weren't so lucky. They tested positive and now have to be treated.
