Does anyone know what happened in the park across from Sonnys in Sumter Landing this morning. Sheriffs dept had a spot taped off with crime scene tape next to the little pond. Crime scene techs were there with rubber gloves on, taking pictures this morning around 11.

Saw 4 police cars parked in the grass there this morning as we went into Toojays. Didn't know the reason, though.

My husband saw several police searching the field in that area, that was around 10:30 this morning. We always walk our dog around that walkway. It will be in the news for sure, this is the villages.

I just checked the breaking news in Orlando Sentinel, Ocala newspaper, Leesburg paper, and local television channels.......NOTHING.
Could it have been a "practice" ???? In our town, they sometimes role play a disaster to keep the response teams sharp.
It doesn't sound like a practice......but I can't find anything in the news.
I hope it wasn't a crime.
When the Leesburg paper first came up, there was a teenager who had drowned in a pond......but the paper didn't seem to be FLORIDA even though I had typed in Leesburg, Florida newspaper breaking news, etc.

Could very well be an alligator sighting.........that had entered my mind as well.
There is nothing in the bigger newspapers.....or on television.
If it was a murder, or a body was found....it would be on local television......

Can you wager a guestimate as to how long it might take to get onto television news? Up here, even in a tiny town, if a murder had occurred or even just an accident, the Albany New York t.v. news team would send out a truck with reporters, camera crew etc. immediately......they cover Vermont.
Apparently this happened two days ago????? Someone said it was NOT in The Villages Daily Sun (which we enjoyed tremendously while there).

We don't know at this time even if a crime was committed. This is similar to folks slowing down on the highway to a crawl and gawking at an accident. What are those folks looking for, perhaps an arm or even a severed head lying in the ditch. I guess it falls into the fact that it takes all kinds to make a world revolve.
I like a good comedy movie, where some prefer the blood and guts of violence on the big screen. OH WELL>

Certainly they wouldn't put up crime scene tape for that.

Yes, I thought of that too. But I was thinking maybe the police want to verify if it really was a alligator that might have be sighted and if it was, then call Animal Rescue. Whatever it was, it seems to be not that important, because no one heard anything yet.

Thank you for this bit of news. One of the first things I noticed a few years back was the sex offenders living in The Villages......if you read it, most of them go after, or "went after" young girls.......not retired middle aged or elderly women.
Having a beautiful 18 year old grand daughter who would indeed be visiting us, plus a lovely 8 year old grand daughter , as well as two "baby" grand daughters.........I would be concerned that these sexual predators are "out and about". The babies and 8 year old wouldn't be out "alone" but the 18 year old might be out jogging, etc .
Not to forget our 11 year old grandson.........some of these perverts don't care at all.......
I had most recently pointed out to my husband the playground area in question as a nice location (any of the nearby villages) to purchase a home.......as the Lake Sumter Landing area was my all time favorite.....it's all nice, but I just liked it there.....or Virginia Trace area, Village of Caroline, etc., Creekside Landing area.......or right around Lake Sumter Landing.
Again, I for one.......do appreciate your re-posting that link......
Thank you. Concerned grandparents have a need to know.

"Crime Scene" headline on this thread is overblown, I thought from the start.
But it did provide an opportunity to ramp up "crime in TV" (Crime?? Oh my!!!!)...and bash the newspaper which, like all newspapers, is published to help the advertisers sell their product/services.

Have you done a search for sex offenders in your neighborhood? Why would you be more concerned about sexual predators "out and about" in TV than any other place? Your implication is unwarranted!

Personally, I would be more concerned about the 18 year old and 11 year old speeding along in Gramp's golf cart and getting into an accident - or the 18 year old having a fake ID to get drinks at City Fire and getting picked up by the local youths who frequent the bar.
