Do most Landlords charge sales tax (7%) and a hospitality tax (2%) on the rental prices that are advertised?
Most rental prices don't say anything about taxes.

I believe in most cases it's been worked into the quoted price, but doesn't hurt to ask.

On the villages4rent you will find a statement ....including amenity,water,sewer,and all taxes..unless the owner removes this....your rental agreement should also state about taxes also

Depending on what county your house is located in (Lake, Sumter or Marion), the rental tax is different. I know that some owners do not pay the rental tax and they are in violation of the law. If they get caught, they would have to pay all the back taxes plus there is a huge fine.

Isn't sales tax only applicable to short term rentals? Thought if it was a long term (longer than 6 months) you didn't have to pay sales tax.

That is correct. If rented more than 6 months to the same person, no sale's tax is due.

I should have asked. I'm not that disappointed but I just have a feeling
the rental service I went thru is pocketing the tax...Probably just me!!

I would look into that....is it several hundred dollars ($200-$400 a month depending on how much rent you get per month), if they are pocketing it. Ask to have a meeting with them, not to challenge them, but just to go over all the costs and obligations....and ask about who is responsible for paying the rental tax.

if you are the owner and using a rental company..you will get a copy of the paperwork to the state with your tax number on it....and every month your statement should list taxes paid and the amount..

I called the Florida tax department - they gave me this info:
Cleaning fees are taxed.
I didn't ask about pet fees, but I would think they would be taxed.
Security deposit is not taxed when received, but any amount retained is taxed.
Resident ID cost is not taxed.

i am thinking you need to call your company and ask...it should be broken down by taxes and percent you pay to them...if they don't do this find a different company
