Sun Kool was just here and said we have freon leak in coils. It can be fixed for about $1500. Because this Trane unit is 7 years old, he suggests we may want to think about replacement.

Who have you used to do that? Has anyone used Sears who I see advertises on this forum. What's the average cost for a new system in a 1400 sf Amarillo?

Thanks for your help.

You may want to get a second opinion before commiting to a new unit.

Definitely get a second or third opinion on what is wrong with your current unit and you need to do to repair it. If you do decide to replace your old unit, get three or more estimates before you make a decision.

3 years ago I had a frozen coil in a rental unit. I was told that there was a freon leak in the coil and it had to be replaced for $1700. I asked how they were so sure, I was not at TV at the time and was assured that the senior technician was very competent in troubleshooting. I decided to think about it, I let it thaw out by shutting off the unit for a day. I had the renter turn it back on and it has never skipped a beat to date.

Sumter air and heat, we used them and cannot say enough "good " about them. Very honest, and cheaper than our previous quote.I would definately get a second opinion before buying a new unit.

I was reading lasts Sundays Orlando Sentinel and it had several AC company's advertising replacements ,for ac/heat pumps. They gave the prices on the replacements. It gave you an idea of what the costs could be. What ever you do get several bids from reliable company's and than check them out with the BBB.
