Your backyard critters can include alligators and snakes and it is a problem for some allergic people who are allergic to wet damp moldy stuff..
However the birds and the space are phenomenal.

Actually there are a lot of very tricky federal regulations when it comes to wetlands and building or for that matter even landscaping. And the feds have been known to get pretty cranky if you violate those rules & regs. Before you do anything like that, it would be best to check things out with a land-use expert. You might be able to find some good information through the Florida Farm Bureau or the state agricultural extension programs. On this one it's very good idea to check things out very carefully before you build something.

Only with a very large birdcage to keep out gators, snakes and other critters. It would be a nice view of nature.

There are homes built in TV that back on wildlife preserves and on open-space environmental areas. The serenity and peace are incredible. If you have pets or young grandchildren, make sure they are closely supervised at all times.

we live on a lake (retention pond). IT's nice to have nobody living directly behind us, but in the summer (well, anytime the temps are over 75) the frogs are very noisy!
they have a party every night

We also back on a pond. Hearing the happy froggie parties is one of my favorite things about The Villages.

I would think frog sounds and parties are a lot better than voices and parties from "kissing lanais." Would probably end up like a nice "white noise" machine in your bedroom with the windows open in nice weather. Or like surf sounds when living on the beach. And no one looking into your swimming pool, if that's what you want.
I would drive around at different times and talk to owners who live backing to wetlands. The ones I have met while golfing seemed to love it.
I think the mold issue might be overstated here (like the snake issue, birdfeeder issue, etc), unless you are really sensitive to other types of allergies already. I know people who ALWAYS have either their heat or a/c on. We go without both most of the time here from about mid-November to mid-April most years. We did add a humidistat type thermostat, so we can check the humidity accordingly.

We you locate may not make a difference when it comes to the occassional crittter sighting. However it is evident that building in the vicinity of wetlans, ponds, etc does increase your liklihood.

Those of us that live on the wetlands do so mainly for the following reasons:
1) Privacy, the houses are not allowed right upon each other and the number is very limited
2) The view is incredible
3) We love the wildlife, to include the gators, frogs, snakes, birds and even the occasional coyote and bald eagle
4) The land is protected by the State of Florida
5) It seems to me that a lot of us are use to wide open spaces
It is absolutely not for everyone. You have more bugs, the property is much more expensive, and there is a small sense of isolation.
If you are allergic to mold, one might not want to move to Florida, period. The spores are in the air everywhere throughout the State. I have to take allergy meds to be here, and I am a Floridian. Never developed a tolerance, neither did my sister.
There is no single perfect spot in The Villages that everyone would care to live at. You might want to look at the resales near LSL. I started with resales and found a lot had pools, which was an immediate "no-way" for me. Additionally, so were the kissing lanais.
So, I settled on the bugs and am exceptionally happy. We have learned to co-exist with each other.
Keep looking, don't despair...you will find your perfect spot here in TV.

We get a few mosquitos around dusk, but just a few. Nothing like up North. I think The Villages is awash in a sea of chemicals from spraying golf courses and private lawns.
Like Katie, we treasure our privacy. The song of the frogs (not the people kind, silly) puts us to sleep at night.
