Early this morning post # 29 to the thread PET PEEVE: Trish Crocker woke me up with that post:
When friends are in from out of town and we want to talk and catch up, we always pick a quiet spot to do so. When the neighbors want to get together to whoop and holler, we head for City Fire. I will print post # 29 and pin it on my computer as a way to respond in the future. When I see folks say they went to a rock concert to have a quiet conversation, I go off in the same wrong direction they do with inappropriate comments. Nothing is done in this wonderful place without a reason, so when we complain about something, we are indirectly insulting someones taste.
IS ANYONE WRONG OR AN IDIOT IF:
Some like it loud and some don't.
Some like cigar smoke and some gag from it.
Some like slow play on the course and some (ME) do not.
Gas Carts vs Electric Carts.
More 60's music for some, More Country for others.
I would like to thank Admin and the Monitors for protecting us from ourselves by deleting posts. Yesterday I had 3 or 4 deleted that made me go WHAT, but this morning, I agree, I did get off topic and for no other reason than my personal beliefs. For me, I am going to try a different approach to posting.
YES, The Villages has problems just like everyplace in this country, but it is the best place we have ever lived.
YES, We have met some less than perfect folks in The Villages, but we have also met some folks that we will call life long friends.
Trying to change someone's opinion is generally fruitless anyway so why cause the friction. Give yours without insulting theirs and drop it.
Good morning everyone and to everyone I wish you a wonderful day.

Well...if it would make you feel any better...I called someone a "Schmuck" on the City Fire Dog thread this morning. But, I think admin deleted it before they could see it. Darn!
As someone who is very likely going to need a Service Dog in the next few years, the thread was quite upsetting to me. But I feel better now.
You have a wonderful day too!

Well said, golfingnut.
And, Katie, there's a HUGE difference between a service dog and a comfort dog. A service dog should be welcomed everywhere. A comfort dog does not give service; it may relieve anxiety but the reality is they're not needed to help or protect an owner, just make them feel a little more secure. To claim a comfort dog as a service dog and demand that it be treated as such is just plain wrong.

I agree with you on everything you said. Not sure why you had the impression that I would think otherwise. I think what upset me is why do people designate themselves as the handicap police? Or, the golf cart police? Or the dog poop police?
I read golfingnuts post and I suddenly "got it" too. You can't change people, you can't change others opinions, you can only change yourself. You are always going to have people that have to police everything, be right about everything, judgmental and have nasty things to say. And I almost got caught up in that today, and it is just not me...I don't like it when I act that way...and I too am not going to allow it to happen again.
So, with that said, everyone have a great day, and I sure hope it does not rain until evening!

Katie, I got the impression that you were afraid you would be reacted negatively to if the day came you needed a service dog. I was just saying that these women did not have service dogs, not that you thought differently. Sorry for the misinterpretation.
As to why people designate themselves as any type of police, who knows? A sense of self-righteousness, of self-importance, of self-entitlement. Some of their complaints are legitimate, some cross several lines to my mind. Sometimes I know this is not normally how that person reacts, speaks and chalk it up to a bad day. Sometimes I see it as a person who just can't see the good in anything or loves to stir things up. I feel sorry for them. And, if you ever do say something mean to someone else, I'm going to chalk it up to a bad day and happily ignore it.
And I don't care when it rains, just so long as it rains. I'm tired of seeing Silver Lake dried up.

GREAT post!! You're absolutely correct. My addition to this is my spouse will say "some folks have WAY too much time on their hands!" Thus referring to some of the topics AND comments.

I saw it, Katie! It made me laugh. It wasn't directed at anyone on this forum, but at an anonymous person who purchased a fake service dog certification.
A very apt reaction on your part, I might add.:clap2:

Wait a minute!
Are you saying that if someone posts a comment that you do not agree with that we should just move on and not post the "other side"?
I would not be in favor of that.
Debate is great! I want to hear both sides.
I can't fine it on TV or in the big newspapers. How can people make a good decision on a topic if they are only exposed to one side.
(I submit the current elected officials in DC as a prime example)

I'm not sure I agree totally with that. Most of the time, yes, what you say is true.I'm sure we've all been guilty of friction type posts at one time or another and we need to tone it down. But I've posted some quite innocuous things and have been beaten over the head. Mainly things like I'll say the villages is wonderful, but not perfect. That's the phrase that gets some people, and we know who they are, all riled up. It shouldn't, but it does. But I guess you're saying just ignore those people, which is probably a good idea. I can do that up to a point, but when I see them coloring an incomplete or incorrect picture of The villages, and I know new people are looking here trying to get a feel for how things really are, the honest person in me compels me to speak what I consider the truth.

No one person's opinion is any more valid than anothers. We should all consider another persons opinion. Plus I think she is righter.

Agreed, regarding personal preferences, yes. Facts are another story. And I guess we're all going to agree or disagree with what is fact and what is not.

Some people love to be victims. They love to be sick. They love to be pitied. They just love to complain about everything and anything. Some of them move here. At home everyone knew who they were and to stay away. Here, we all have new beginnings. "Opinions are like assh-----s, everyone has one"!!!!

What has surprized me from the beginning is that the individual is attacked by those on this board. Not just the issue in discussion. They question your knowledge, make assumptions that show they have little knowledge of the issue, and are generally unkind. You can almost see the fire coming out of their ears. Yes we do get to know who will have a fit over certain subjects. Stop attacking the individual. We have all read newbies stating they are shocked by the manner of this board. Is that the impression we want to give to those thinking we are the friendliest town in America?

Good morning everyone and to everyone I wish you a wonderful day.
Agree to disagree respectfully is the key. I always ask myself, "how will I feel if I disagree vehemtly with the other person". That usually stops me in my tracks as I don't want to get into it with other people. I state my point of view without attacking the person.
"I don't let people rent space in my head" and "life is too short to be too little" are motto's that I follow. There is to many wonderful people out there to get annoyed by the few.
