My nephew ran today and, thanks to text messages, everyone is safe and accounted for.

So glad to hear it, Autobike.

. Our neighbors are in the Boston area for a First Communion and not being familar with the area I googled the Marathon route. All responses on google was stopped about the maps of that area.

Someone is looking out for us. I imagine that was a national security measure. I was surprised.

Praying too Gomoho for the safety of all and the safety of our country.

All flights in and out of Boston have been grounded, and all cell phone service has been blocked to prevent remote detonation of other bombs. Anybody trying to reach somebody in the Boston area, try the land line or text message. Also, the Bruins game scheduled for tonight has been canceled. The Boston Globe is reporting over 100 injured.

The President will update us at 6:00pm.

I hope it is the right person of interest and I wish I could be in a small room with a person who would do such a cowardly thing.

I am old and not very good at beating up people. I don't know if I am good at it, I never have done it but I would like to try sometimes.

I used to work at Saks Fifth Ave. on Boylston St. very close to that area, used towalk by there everyday! I thank God that it wasn't detonated when the first runners came through the finish line, many more people would've been injured and/or killed. Tens of thousands of people go to that area every year for the Marathon, OMG!

I heard two confirmed dead and one of them was an eight-year old girl. GRRRRR HORRIFIC

Having lived a long life (brought up in Lexington, MA approx 25 mi North of Boston) as a yankee, Patriots' Day there was a wonderful holiday for young and old, and of course we had Paul Revere and Wm Dawes ride into town to warn Lex and Concord Minutemen that "the British are coming" along with a parade and kiosk shopping.... Such fond memories and this holiday will be one to remember, but sadly.

As a resident of Massachusetts currently here in this great state (live in a City located 50 miles south of Boston) I am shell shocked that this senseless act performed by a group of cowards could have happened on this Patriots day. I say a "group" because of the two bombs that exploded at the Marathon Finish Line with two additional bombs found and defused and doubt that this could have been done by a single person or animal.

There are reports that bombs were small in nature and contained ball bearings designed to maim and maximize injury. Numerous amputations and total chaos up here in Boston.

I pray for the families of the injured and especially for the two reported dead.

God Bless Us and God Bless America.

Originally, the national news said there was a suspect.
They then changed it to "someone they are interviewing".
A Saudi National had been seen acting suspiciously near a trash can.
He then seemed to leave the scene in a rush.
A citizen chased him down. Notified the police.
Long story short, they are questioning him.
He is cooperating with the police. Originally, they did call him a "suspect".

The term being used by Boston officials is they have a "person of interest". This person is injured and at Brigham & Woman hospital. They are showing a live feed on TV of a Swat Team in a Command vehicle is at the entrance to the hospital. Not sure what exactly going on.

There is so much hatred in this world.

I can't know why that people find it satisfying to hurt others who they don't even know.

People who harm others anonymously are cowards.

I know that I join many good souls on this forum who are just eaten up with sadness and frustration over the horrible events in Boston.

We shouldn't allow meanness and anonymous hatred to fester EVEN on this forum and assume that people we don't know have vicious motives.

Our president was correct that we are not Democrat or Republican, we are Americans.

And on the same vein of thought, the miniscule differences that divide us on this forum do not warrant the recent attacks that I have read in the last three or four days.

If you are angry with someone on this forum for who they are, that isn't good enough. They could be wrong, yes, but so could you.

Lay down the stirring up of trouble and find the commonality of happiness in this place that we have all chosen to be home.

Life is way too short and many of us may be leaving soon.

We all have fewer years ahead than we left behind.

I care about so many of you and try to care about all of you.

The FBI is very good. They already have narrowed it down to a smaller number of theories and hypothesis.

I am sure they will figure out who did it. But it may take a little while to get a fix on specific people.

One advantage they have.... everybody is taking pictures and video of everything with cellphones now days.

It would not surprise me if they collect footage of the perpetrators.

Hope not. I feel so sorry for the little ones who were watching the race with their parents and got caught by shrapnel or something or other.

I hope your friend is o.k.............and that the others get released soon from the restaurant.

We've switched back and forth between the major networks, CNN and FOX news...........especially yesterday as it was unfolding and breaking news.

Just watched the news conference from Boston.

What some folks in Florida do not realize is that for those , whether in TV or hoping to live in TV someday, who have either roots or bonds in Boston and it's vicinity..........it's a need to know what is happening.

We live close to Williamstown Massachusetts where Williams College is and where neighbors work..........Massachusetts borders Vermont and is our neighbor.

Our young people go to college in Boston or take their first jobs in Boston.......
thus have many ties to the area.........and fond memories, keeping in touch with those still living there.

Our own adult children still bring their young ones to the Boston Aquarium and Boston museums, etc.......to ride on the duck boats into Boston Harbor, etc. They have friends there, having lived there themselves.

It's our "big city"..........three hours away. Our local Albany, N.Y. news station sent the young reporters there overnight.......to Boston. Not far on the Mass. Pike. from Albany, N.Y. to Boston.

So, there is a need to know..........and other than the breaking news online which had a huge red banner all afternoon yesterday, into evening...........television is our only source of info.

It reminded so many people of 911.......although not of that magnitude.
Still, it brought back memories.

We just watched the news conference ourselves...........

SO, A.J. BROWN...........I, for one, am glad you are keeping us posted.

Thank you.

I'll bet if Disney World got bombed, whether by foreign terrorists or home grown ones such as the "ex cons" on a killing spree....or white supremicists, etc. everyone also would be glued to the news channels.

Those are my thoughts as well, my sisters and brother work in Boston, as well as my nieces, my son also sometimes drives customers from the Cape to Boston, plus some friends. My girlfriend just told me her daughter & husband were 1 block away watching the Marathon runners coming to the finish line! So, there's a urgency for me to know what is going on, as I'm 1300 mi. away! Thank God for the media, whether it's the tv, online news, etc. :-)

My opinion is that the people who are investigating know a great deal more than we do and more than we need to know just now. The media will release that information when it is released to them and another thing, the media has cooperated, all of them by not releasing the actual awful photographs or films of people being literally blown apart.

There is no way that all major news station would skew the news Heartnsoul. They are in competition with each other and being the grandmother of a very ethical executive producer of the news, I think otherwise.

I believe that everyone is doing their job right now and we need to be patient. I am sure all of us think we know who is to blame, but until the facts come out, we will just have to wait.

I know everyone saw the picture of the little eight your old boy who was killed. The photograph looked to be in a white suit with a rosary?. He is just the age to have just made his First Communion. It also said a sibling and his mother were injured. We all need to keep them in our hearts, what terrible anguish for all that know them.

No need for us to jab each other on this issue.

Has nothing to do with cooking under pressure.....the "traditional" thinking/useage does not apply here.

Think of the pressure cooker as a convenient, sealable container able to build contain some pressure before failure/exploding thus magnifyng the EXplosion and adding momentum to the contents/shrapnel.

Easy to transort.

It will be interesting to hear more about how they rigged the contraption.....I think this would qualify as an IED (improvised explosive device). DOn't minimize the bomb making intelligence/skill required).

All the more reason to be sure we get who dunnit....the pre-meditation is horrifying to think about the ones who did it, meticulously crafting their device with the intentiojn of killing and maiming innocent people.

AFter they are caught our legal system will assure them a safe, healthy life style for many, many, MANY years while tip toeing around the act of terror!!!!!

Did anyone hear that perhaps a pressure cooker was used for one of the bombs????
I've never had a pressure cooker, but have heard how they can sometimes "go off" and explode the food contents all over the ceiling.

I wonder........if we were moms or grandmas living in the Boston area or vicinity, and we just checked our kitchen supplies to find our own pressure cooker "GONE MISSING" would we call the F.B.I. to report a loved one??????

If it turns out to be true that these bombs were placed in pressure cookers and the pressure cookers were placed inside black duffel bags, then law enforcement definitely has something to look for.

This area around the finish line is one of the most videotaped areas in the country. Law enforcement said in their press conference this am that they were already pulling these tapes while victims were still being transported to the hospital. Now begins the painstaking process of viewing all the tapes plus all the photos supplied by onlookers.

And yes, I would call the FBI if I noticed my pressure cooker was missing. However, it was reported that all the materials needed in this type of bombmaking can be readily purchased almost anywhere.

It's times like this that I'm glad I don't have a television. The only connection I have to Massachusetts is that I was born there, but I never never lived there. Fall River, Massachusetts.

One thing I wonder about: I heard on the radio that some of the runners ran to a nearby hospital to donate blood. I didn't know that hospitals were set up for people to walk in and donate blood. It sounds logical but I just never heard about it before.

From the latest news conference that just concluded, it sounds like these two black nylon bags with the pressure cooker bombs were just dropped on the sidewalk and not put into receptacles. Each bag is estimated to weigh 20 pounds, so it was speculated that one person would be struggling to carry two bags any distance.

They also mentioned that they have found pieces of a circuit board, which seems to mean a timer was used.

It was also mentioned that whoever built these bombs could have conceivably been practicing detonating them.

Once law enforcement gets a good photo of the bomber or bombers, then they have to track down their indentity. It sounds like they are making progress in their investigation after only 24 hours.

Governor Deval Patrick also announced there will be a memorial service Thursday, and the President will attend.

"......Mondays marathoners continued to help after completing the exhausting race, proving months of training in the endurance sport was more than personal fitness. Around 4 p.m., NBC Sports tweeted reports that many marathon runners crossed 26 miles to the finish line and continued running to Massachusetts General Hospital, where they donated blood to victims. So many people rushed to follow in the runners footsteps that within hours of the blasts, Mass General and the Red Cross had stopped accepting blood donations.....

NEWS reports are now that RICIN has been discovered in mail sent to the US SENATE. RICIN can kill with just a few grains.

Very much like right after 9/11 and I think is relative.

You can check any news source that you want for this....I hesitate to link to any specific one at this point.

THIS NOW may not be true.....but wanted to correct.....probably the wrong news source

That 8 year old boys grandfather lives here in The Villages. Oh my - it has hit so close to home!! I don't know him but if some of his friends want to do something for the family, I will certainly be there. If anyone hears anything, please post. Like where to donate to help or whatever.

I certainly agree with this. You might encounter evil people like this bomber/bombers from time-to-time and some of these may have a lot of power but they can usually be outmaneuvered if you have the help of good people.

Would you know how the office staff knew it had Ricin in the envelope?
Was it a letter stating that? I looked up ricin last evening and it's made from castor beans? Supposedly, just one speck the size of a pinhead can be deadly. When one thinks about it, a terrorist can send it to a lot of folks inside a magazine, or general mail.........or whatever.

Do they ordinarily test all mail coming into government officials' offices?
Just wondering as I do not know.

I remember a strange case years ago when the anthrax was hitting the post offices........an elderly woman in New Hampshire was sitting in her beauty salon reading a magazine which apparently had anthrax in it and later died. Scary, to say the least.

I know anthrax can also be found in natural wools, etc. or so I've read and heard from friends who love to knit fisherman type sweaters or Irish sweaters.

Thanks in advance..........what a week.

"Postal workers started handling mail at a site off Capitol Hill after the 2001 anthrax attacks that targeted then-Majority Leader Tom Daschle and Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, among others. Senators were told the post office would be temporarily shut down "to make sure they get everything squared away," McCaskill, D-Missouri, said Tuesday afternoon.

"The bottom line is, the process we have in place worked," she said. Members will be warning their home-state offices to look out for similar letters, she added."

Envelope tests positive for ricin at Washington mail facility - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/16/us/tainted-letter-intercepted/index.html)

" An envelope that tested positive for the deadly poison ricin was intercepted Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol's off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN."

When I originally posted this about the Ricin, I had a bad feeling on the timing and thought perhaps related to Boston. Does not "appear" to be the case, thus I apologize if this seems hijacking..not meant to be.

9/11 to this day has made me jumpy on all of this because it is so easy to do this crap.

The Secret Service is reporting that a letter containing a suspicious substance has been sent to President Obama. It is reported to be very similar to the letter sent to Senator Wicker and was also intercepted at a remote facility. Reports say that neither of these incidents have anything to do with the bombing in Boston.

Sad and awful to hear that something like this causes OTHER evil ones to come out of their ugly holes.
