I am looking for a part time job and I saw today that the recreation department is looking for someone. I was wondering if they were flexible with hours and time off as you know living in The Villages means lots of things to do and possibly some time off for a cruise or family visiting from up north or many other things. I am very flexible with my hours but I was wondering how flexible they are. Has anyone out there worked for them...thanks in advance or any info !!!

My husband works for a Rec. Center. They have been very nice to work around our cruise and trips to see family in MO.

From what I hear, the salary is just about minimum wage and is always part time. Do not expect to be paying the mortgage on the salary. I understand that most of the folks who work at the Rec Centers just do it to be doing something and not for the money.
If you need to work after moving to The Villages, maybe it is not such a good idea to move to The Villages and you should either stay working where you are or move to a less expensive place than The Villages.

I have friends that work for The Villags Recreation Center. They take a cruise every year and a second trip, back home, also. They never have any problems getting time off. They really enjoy working for The Villages.

How could you find anyplace less expensive than The Villages?

my husband is thinking of doing something part time, too. I don't plan to retire on the money! :pepper2:

Is finding any place less expensive than The Villages necessarily a good thing?:$:

Lots of retirement communities or just houses cheaper in Florida than The Villages. None, of course, have The Villages lifestyle. For me and my wife, this is a slice of Heaven on earth.

A lot of assumptions being made here about the OP. Maybe OP just wants to enjoy working with people and so what if those working at the rec centers are there because they want something to do?
How do you know if OP has or has not moved to TV? The Villages can be as expensive as you want it to be.
"From what I hear...............I understand that" pretty solid information.

From the OP's previous posts, it seems that the OP is already living in TV.

I worked as a gate waver ,, for almost 18 months was great fun,,, money wa great beer and gambling $$$. Was wondeful to enjoy people an smiles u got of those who had drank the koolaide and living a wondeful life here in Gods waiting room. I gave it up when my bride retired an came to join me here on a permanet basis. Now we enjoy each other waiting till we go to the big pickleball court in the sky. My advise is go for it !

I certainly am not looking to make any kind of money. I have a beautiful designer home that is paid for and we have 2 vehicles and 2 golf carts. I am too young to collect any benefits and I would like to have my nails done more often and pay my housekeeper and do more and not have to continuously take money out of the bank. Believe me when I turn 62 I am not planning on working as I find it very inexpensive living here but if I want to go to the movies every week and go out to lunch with my friends on weekly basis etc. money does go fast when nothing is coming in. Just was inquiring about the flexibility !!!

I do not plan on working to pay my mortgage as I own a designer home which is paid for, 2 cars and 2 golf carts but I am not old enough to collect anything and it has been almost 3 years that I have lived in The Villages. I would love to have my nails polished more often and when you want to go to the movies, out to eat, have a few cocktails at the square, etc. have a housekeeper and nothing is coming in but only going out...it goes fast so I would just like something to cover my "fun"...when I turn 62 I do not plan on working as that should be enough to cover my "Villages fun"...by the way it is very inexpensive to live here and especially what you get for your money !!!

My Daily Run - I hear ya - looking myself to earn a few bucks to do some things that I don't want to dip into the bank to get the money for. And I think I still have a few good years in me to work at something I like doing.

You would be so great at so many things, but you are so warm and so smart and so ethical and you have real estate background. I think you should sell homes for The Villages.

I have a friend who has worked there for years, and she loves it. I say give it a shot! Good luck if you do.

Selling homes in the Villages is MORE than a full time job.

I feel grateful that there are experienced people in TV who work in the recreational areas. Without them, we would be relying on young people (some of whom are not always fully attentive to their current job) or paying a lot more in ammenities fees.

You are sooooo correct - selling real estate anywhere is 24/7. Am working on getting my license here, but still on the fence if I want to give up my life again. Sure is a captive market though - something I've never dealt with and it would be fun!:a040:
