Afternoon naps are wonderful........put on some mellow Jazz and sit back in comfortable high back couch and presto.........out like a light..!!........60 minutes later ready to give it another go.

I'm a late riser...always have been. It's usually 8:30 and no naps for me. But I don't go to sleep until between 11 and 12 at night. I remember the good old school days where we would have to get up at 6:30-7 and wondered why they would make teenagers get up so early. I hated it!

The times you mention are just the opposite for me. When in MA I find I am up earlier 5:30 - 6, but here in TV I tend to wake up around 7A. I always thought (for me) it is because of the sun rising much later here in TV....

I have been waking up at between 4 and 5, up no later then 5:30 for 50 years so it's a hard habit to break. Stay up until 10:30 or 11:00 but still wake up early. Sleep is a habit and I am working to break it.

still working, but haven't had to set an alarm clock for several years.
internal alarm goes off always around 5am, very often right on the dot.
wonder how that works?

When I used to work at 5AM and leave the house by 4:30, I was always amazed at the number of people that were up at that hour down here when they don't have to be!

Since being retired, I wake-up when I am fully rested. I have nowhere to go at the moment so time seems like a non-issue.
When I have to get somewhere, that alarm gets me up. Life is good.

Wow, Asianthree, You have some energy level!!!!!!
When I was working, I had a 2 hour commute, so I would be up by 4:30. When I retired, I swore that I would never get up again @ 4:30 and I don't. I am now a night owl and go to bed around 4-4:30 and am up by 10. Life is good.

Afternoon naps are an indicator of certain issues and should not be ignored.
IOW you shouldn't need one on a regular basis

I'm another night owl. The nice thing about retirement, we can all do our own thing.

A night owl (usually down between midnight and 1:00 am) but still an early riser -- 5:30 am. I'm one of those lucky ones who seems to run on 4-5 hours sleep with catnaps (no more than 15 minutes, usually even less). Have been this way my entire life.

Hey JIMBO, I had to laugh. While we were there we got soo tired...you know...go, go, go ( we have to get it all in during our week stay of vacation there). We are younger than some on this board; but one day we had a 2 nap day!!!!hahahaha. Got up early golfed. Took nap. Went to pool ....napped ...then went to dance to with Scooter. I know that when you live there that you learn to pace yourself....but not us on vacation
Ok I admit this is a hijack----back to when you get up ....

I'm finding as I get further into my golden years, I need less sleep. I used to crave eight hours a night, or I'd be tired the next day and yawning. Now I seem to be fine with six hours, no naps, not tired. I wonder if this is something that happens to everyone as they age.

I too had a 2 hour commute. Got up at 5am for 37 years. Hated it! When I retired, I swore I would never get up at that hour again unless it was SUPER important. I also swore I would not do or go anywhere before 10am. Yes, I might miss out on stuff, especially outside stuff in TV but I am living the life I want and am very happy. So, I get up around 8:30 or so and take mornings on my terms. I get teased by one of my neighbors about when I pickup the paper. It is all in good fun.
