Oh no...think I just saw my first one for this year today near Steak-N-Shake on 466 by Walmart. It was floating gently around the golfcart tunnel. Have you seen any yet?

Oh, ick!!! I hate, loathe and despise lovebugs. I don't care how innocuous they are -- they're icky. You have most definitely not made my day.

Time to break out the large can of WD-40.

It's great for getting "love juice" off of vehicles.

Where I use to live, we had these Beatle bugs that invaded our plants and flowers. We could go to the store and buy these bags (for lack of terminology) that attracted these beetle bugs and killed them. The bags contained something that attracted the beetles, they flew into the bag and they died. We called it "bag a bug". It seems that someone should invent a mousetrap for these love bugs????

This will be our first experience with love bugs. We left last May and came back end of
September, so we missed them all. Someone said something about dryer sheets and someone here just mentioned WD40. what does one do with these two items? And any other suggestions?

How about a small cardboard box full of insect poison, with an itsy, bitsy HD television.....showing porn movies?

I have always used fabric softener sheets (wet them) and bugs will wipe off of your cars without scrubbing. It will leave a greasy film that you will need to wash off.

I heard that Mr Clean Magic Eraser works well to get the dead bugs off your car. Learned that from someone who had their car plastered with dead love bugs.
Yuck.

Would dryer sheets and/or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser either scratch or leave a residue that would damage the paint?

Keeping a good coating of wax on your vehicle will do a good job of preventing the love bug "leftovers" from damaging your paint. It'll also help prevent them from sticking to the surfaces as well - they'll wash off pretty easily when you wash the vehicle.

Yes! They are back. The love bug problem here in TV is very, very, very small compared to other parts of Florida. I would venture to say that TV has about 5% of the love bugs Brevard County, over near Cocoa Beach, has. The good news is that they don't bite.

Yep. I saw some yesterday at Beef O Brady's at The Colony shopping center. They are here!!

As a newbie, I'm wondering about golf carts. Do the love bugs go after them? I have this horrible vision of a swarm them riding with me through a tunnel. Ugh!

They don't really "go after" anything except each other. They just have their orgies in warm places like over highways and roads and in golf cart tunnels.

Unfortunately, that is not true... LOL.. I wish. In a bad year, they are all over the inside of golf carts especially if you're wearing white. They are a big nuisance but I'm still only seeing single ones, haven't seen them mating yet. They will, very shortly, UGH!!

Also be aware - they love fumes like exhaust from cars and golfcats, so they congregate especially at intersections, and golfcarts crossings and tunnel exits. They also like stuff like spray paint, so wouldn't advise little outdoor paint projects during their time here. I was advised, and have found it to be true, that they love the color white, in cars and clothes.

They don't bite or sting, they just kind of float around landing on stuff and irritate the devil out of everyone.

Their worst irritation however, is that they get squished onto your car and will definitely harm your paint job unless removed promptly, something about the acidity in their little bodies that does it. There are threads on here about how to safely remove them from your car.

Not to worry to much though. They are here for only about 5-6 weeks, twice a year. Oh, and welcome to The Villages! :welcome:

Saw a few mating pairs on the front of my house yesterday. Last year they "loved" my house so much that I couldn't use the front door. They were everywhere, except the front of my car. Go figure. I am hoping for less bugs this year. So, time will tell.

I had a pair on my windshield today...decided that the female was desperately trying to get away from the male..and thinking "damn, I only get ONE chance to do this and it has to be with you!!"

Does anyone know how long they stay around? I'd like to hear that by Monday, May 6, when I return that they will be a memory until next mating season. Please give me an estimate.

You should arrive just about the time they are in their heightened frenzy :)
