Making progress toward TV

I posted a thread maybe a year ago or so about how do talk someone, say your wonderful wife of 40 years, into TV is the place to be when she doesn't think that even after visiting twice before.
Well................We visited again last week and it was wonderful, but I have already had my share of kool aid so you can't trust me!
We both loved it and met many wonderful people, if only in passing.
We have not talked about it at all since we got home. I did not want to spoil it with me whining about how I want to live there. But tonight the light appeared at the end of the tunnel! While at diner with the sister she said was one of the main reasons she could not see herself moving that far away, she spent a great deal of time telling her what a great place it was and all that there is to do and that the people there were as nice and in many cases nicer than those here in Texas. If you are a Texsan, first I apologize for that and also if you are a Texsan you know what a big statement that is for a Texsan to say!!

She went on and on about the beauty, the golf, the town squares, the golf, the activity centers, the golf.
She even said out loud for anyone to hear that she could see living there during the winter, :pepper2::pepper2: All I could think was, you go girl.

We even looked at open houses, some on the golf course, and she said that the ones on the course were great. That does not mean anything until you know this, she said even if she lived there it would NEVER be on the golf course, that is until she saw it.
I could have bought it on the spot, good thing she was with me, remember I can't be trusted.

Anyway, I post this here for two reasons. First I know that all of you know what this means and feels like, and second I just had to tell someone while I am trying to play it cool here at home. I don't want to seem desperate!

It's hard when you don't agree. I took my husband to T.V. for a lifestyle visit
3 years ago and he didn't like it much.
We have looked at other 55 places previously.
Then in February I told him we needed to revisit T.V.
This time he LOVED IT!
The major difference is our MINDSET.
We weren't ready 3 years before; were not totally retired, not
really ready to rightsize.
The main reason he fell in love was the ENERGY - loves the fact that
It's a beautiful place with people with a zest for life.

...your post from the past. So glad to hear of the update. Sounds like you have been a wise and thoughtful husband on this.

I believe it is a process for some. We first came to check it out not knowing what it was and to make fun of it (you see my husbands boss was a type-A personality. She moved there; and we could not imagine her in a retirement community...boy were we in for a suprise!!!!). Then we visited friends; and I thought.... great place to visit but not to live. Then I thought great place for a second home. Now I think... Lord when can we move full time??? See the progression.

Hopefully you will be able to get there soon. You have been a wise and understanding husband so far.

And I will just smile and think about how lucky I am to be living in such a place with such a woman.

Before we bought here in 2010, it took me about 5 years to convince my wife, it is the right thing to do. Every year we visited TV to stay with friends or try Life Style Packages. First year we visited, my wife was shocked at all the grey hair vistas at a restaurant. I did too. Finally the big snow storm of 2010 in Virginia convinced her that my plan was sane provided we are still snow birds. Now I think she is resigned to the fact that we will become Froggies in a few years. She likes her friends up north and many are scaring her about the hot, hot summer in Florida but now she has many friends in TV too. It is a slow process but you need to be patient. At some point, you may have to do what my friend did. He said I am getting a place in TV and you can visit anytime as long as you want. His wife chose the house and they are Froggies now. It will depend on your relationship. Good Luck!

I am sure that if I said or did what your friend did it might be my last act as a complete man, if you get my drift.
I don't think I will have to go to that length to get her there.
One of the things that really won her over this trip is how nice everyone was and how many smiles she saw everywhere.
Also she has come to dislike the winters here in West Texas and the dust storms and the fact that it takes all her gardening skills to grow flowers here and keep them alive. She is an avid gardener and loved all the landscaping in TV.
I believe that over the next year or so she will be ready to be a snowbird and then once she has friends there she will want to stay.

That is my hope. For now she is not saying no, and that is one giant step in the right direction.
I think I will suggest renting a place for a month or so first so we can get a feel for life there past just staying 4 or 5 days.
My parents have lived there for 7 years and love it. What's not to love!
