My theory is, SOME people don't know they are allowed in the left lane to make a turn, then never look to see if anyone is behind them.
However,
I see people do a similar maneuver in their autos, making a sloppy left turn and cutting across oncoming traffic lanes. They did THAT long before they moved here and they will continue to do it until or unless it causes an accident and they are held responsible.
Always be alert and prepared for them. It's our best defense out there.

I have made many turns like that. You have to turn your head to be safe. I try to stay out of the auto roadway as much as possible. Nothing wrong if you know your surroundings.

What upsets me is the lack of turn signal use. A hard lean to the left or right doesn't necessarily mean a turn in that direction.

Just curious... won't this hold up cart traffic if you are stuck in the cart lane waiting for the auto traffic to clear enough for you to turn? If you entered the middle lane to turn like an automobile, any carts behind you would still be able to continue on their way.

I know I would not attempt to make a left turn from the cart lane. In effect that would be makung a left turn from the right lane in a car on a four lane road. When I come up to where I need to get left I start watching behind me to know when to start my approach.

Please, please never make a left turn from the golf cart lane. It is extremely dangerous and you should always get over to the car lane many feet (at least a 100) with signal on before the intersection.

These are the same people who go 270 degrees around the round about in the right lane. You know, making in effect a left turn from the right lane. You ask that same person if they would pull up to a traffic light in the right lane to make a left turn and they will say "of course not, that would be stupid" and yet they do it in a round about time and again.

A couple of months ago I almost took out a woman cart driver making a left turn from the cart lane onto Buttonwood Run from St. Charles no more than 25 feet in front of my car. She never used a hand signal or a turn signal, as I looked at the side of her head cross in front of me, she never once glanced back to see if any cars were in her path or how close she came to death.

This is a dumb manuever I see every day. I simply don't understand it. If these individuals were in an auto, on a four lane highway, and in the right lanes, there is no way they would be foolish to make a left turn. While I have the soap box I would like to comment on another irk I have. It bothers me greatly that autos exiting our round-a-bouts seem to forget they have a turn signal lever. I counted 100 cars two days ago ( could only view two exits) and of that hundred, only 17 used a turn signal to indicate their intentions. WHY ???????

Lets make it simple. Have you seen people in carts getting over for a left hand turn a quarter of a mile before they turn. They hold up cars and are driving so close to oncoming cars,Not Me. I plan my turn and "LOOK" yes look to see if anyone is behind me. Yes it is very safe if you know what you are doing.Thank You

Then, IMHO, you do turn, not from the cart lane, but ffrom the inside car lane. This is not what the original post is asking. Turning left from the marked cart lane is just asking for trouble... again, just my opinion. Nuff said.

Driving a cart in the higher speed lane,with "cars" backing up behind you and incoming cars just a few feet away is real trouble. What you want to do is stay as far away from cars as possible.Driving you cart were autos are is real trouble.

I'm certainly not in a hurry.

Nor am I inclined to be stopped behind someone trying to make a left hand turn..........all the way across an auto traffic lane. :oops:

It seems you've changed your story a bit, so I will assume that you do the smart thing and get into the auto lane before actually making that left hand turn.

Unfortunately I see it more often than I would like. I have several golfer friends that will NOT move into the car lane when making a left hand turn. And I cannot convince them otherwise.

You may very well be testing your life insurance policy if you continue to do this. It is extremely dangerous to you, the driver behind you and oncoming traffic. You might consider getting into the flow of traffic with your indicator signal in advance, as well as your hand signal so that you avoid irritating other drivers who follow the rules of the road...

You do not have a clue,what you are talking about. I look to see if there is traffic, None GO, how hard is that. Never had any carts behind me that I interfered with. Try driving that little cart down the middle of the street with a" Semi 10 feet from your bumper. You better check your insurance policy.

Please look into your thoughts on this. I agree with the rest, You are putting yourself and others at risk when you cross two lanes to turn left. i.e. the cart lane and the car lane. If you are right, I would be very surprised and I always get into the car lane WHEN CLEAR and about 100 feet prior to turning left. That give the carts in the cart lane the access to go straight ahead and gives notice to cars coming up behind me of my intention to turn.
