Are there any pools that don't play music? I like to read and the radio on full blast drives me crazy!

We have been there done that - don't know what to say. There are some pools where people love to groove and some pools where they want quiet. I would go for the quiet, but don't go to the pools so not an issue for me. Good luck.

Are you south of 466A???? seems like things are happening down there and you can expect this!

The Bonita pool is very quiet as we don't have a radio. I though silly me only the family pools had music.

Earplugs are very inexpensive.

pools are for swimming, doing exercise or just gabbing. Music would be good. Have you thought of the Library where everyone needs to quiet. Pools are for fun and hopefully and socializing. It is not your personal readidng room.

I beg to differ, JD, it does not fall to one person to proscribe the uses of a pool, a public space, to another who may use it within the bounds of its rules. Neither should the freedom of the general audience be limited by the wishes of one who wants silence. We can work this out without dividing into camps, can't we?

kitty - have to agree with you - if I were to go to a pool I would want quite so I could enjoy a good book.

The music never really bothers me if I'm reading and usually I'll bring my I-pod when I want to hear the music I like.

Actually, it varies from pool to pool. The group consensus seems to prevail. Some pools have a radio playing all day long, some are very quiet. Aren't we lucky that we have such a wide choice of pools!!

Not trying to start anything here and I don't think that ALL the pools should accommodate me! Just trying to find out if there are any quiet pools!

I understand! It shouldn't hurt so much to ask a simple question!

that is a problem as you will find some people bring their own radios and still play them. I love to read with quiet and that is why we "love " our own pool in backyard with plenty of quiet except the birds singing. Good luck finding one. I'm sure you will.

Mallory Square Neighborhood pool does not have piped in music. Once in awhile someone brings a radio, but if you ask them to turn it off they will. We share these facilities and no one is out to offend.

If I get to Art Studio first, at one of the rec centers, I go over to the piped in music dial and turn it off.

Don't tell on me.

Want to grove to your music get head phones. I worked on construction jobs in NYC. On many jobs radios were not allowed , it caused too much friction between the workers .

i don't use headphones for music i use earplugs...so i don't hear any conversation, splash in the pool, or cars golf carts...just quiet....so don't care what is going on its all good with earplugs...for me of course if you are drowning in the pool i do look up every once in awhile

Within an easy cart ride most have three or four adult pools to choose from. "Read around" until you find one that suits your style. Some like background music and some don't. if asked, a reasonable person will turn down his/her radio. If not, in another time I would confront the unreasonable person----now retired and more laid back----I would just move on to another pool.

I hope some of us will resist becoming part of the "me" generation. It seems there's a lot of that going around. Music at the pools? The family pools have it, the adult pools do not. Why should someone want to change that? If YOU want music where it's not already provided we used to use those things called a Walkman with their own set of earplugs. Get one of those. Also, if you want to go to the pool and call all your friends and family or receive calls that are SO IMPORTANT take the phone out into your golf cart. We used to have things called PHONE BOOTHS and they were to protect your privacy and to avoid having everyone around you hear all your business. I won't go into the annoyance of listening to someone drone on and on and on in a voice that carries out into the parking lot and beyond. These people seem to have a lot of information(?) and would like everyone to know it. I don't EXPECT to nap or read at the pool but I do EXPECT courtesy and consideration for others who may deem the adult pools a place of peaceful retreat.

And where is that written? Pools are to be used by residents for their enjoyment, whether it is swimming, lounging, relaxing, reading, or socializing. It is a shared space and people will have different uses for it.

Actually, pools are not only for socializing. They are also for reading and quiet relaxation. :read:

Isn't it great that there are enough pools in TV so that we can all get our needs met.

I used the pool at Mira Mesa Rec Center which is on Rio Grande Blvd. between the Villages of Del Mar and Mira Mesa several times during my rental that ends tomorrow. I never heard any music played there. I got lots of reading done by the pool on this visit to TV. :)

If you do try the pool at Mira Mesa, please be advised that on Thursday mornings from 10 to about 11:30, they play funshine bingo around the pool. I loved playing bingo around the pool, even though I did not win the big bucks.

We have a pool in the back yard, and the first thing we do EVERY TIME prior to going out back is to turn on the music. This issue would be like asking everyone at the town square not to talk while the band is playing. LOTS OF PEOPLE = LOTS OF OPINIONS. Public places must accommodate the PUBLIC and not the INDIVIDUAL.
