Where and what is the best screen to put on your garage door and front door?

I really don't understand the reason for a screen on your garage door. We thought about it and having now been here for almost a year with our garage door up either all the way or partially, don't understand why you would screen it. No bugs, snakes, or intruders so far. Only thing we deal with is a little dirt and dust. Thinking of putting a screen door on the door you enter the home from the garage to get a cross breeze - that would probably cost $100 vs who knows what for a whole garage screen. Just one person's observation.

We don't have a garage screen. However, we are having a hide away screen door installed Monday by Michelle's hideaway Screens.
She has done many of our friends and has been very professional to work with. Many color choices. PM me Monday and I can let you know more. Takes about 4 weeks to order. I know my friends use theirs all the time for cross ventilation on pleasant days when the AC is not needed.

We find a screened front porch and a screened lanai lets us open those two doors for ample ventilation. Garages are generally hot so introducing that hot air to the interior seems counterproductive. If seriously considering a screened garage door I would opt for a remote controlled type. The sliding types are a nuisance and seem to have little effect on the garage temp.

We also screened in our front lanai because so many bugs were coming up by the front door to get out of the heat we think. Now we open both front and back lanai doors and have wonderful cross breeze. I also have a nice protected area for plants on my front lanai. I have seen the retractable screen doors on friends houses and they seem to work for them also.

Why would the mechanics of the store effect the cooling of the garage. A screen is a sceen. The difference between the electric hide-away vertical screen and the horizonal sliding screen are basically two. On a CYV the horizontal slider price is $850 installed vs $2000 installed for the hide-away, or $1650 for the electric roll up type.

I found if you're someone who is outside in the yard a lot, that once you put the electric retractable type up, you'll leave it up, which exposes the garage to anything that wants to enter. The horizontal slider is made up of 4 three foot sections. I slide one section to step outside and then close it behind me, the garage is still protected.

With our washer and dryer in the garage, having the screen on the garage front is a remarkable improvement. Temps in the garage use to exceed 100 degrees, now with the screen door and with propping my attic access slightly open, the garage temperature is whatever the outside temperature is.

Living in a home for a year and leaving the garage door up constantly and having not seen any creatures is not really proof they don't exist. I've had two neighbors in the past year find snakes in their garage, one was a rattlesnake. Our homes are not old, they were built in 2011. Bugs, gators, yes we've had a gator walk around our street that came out of the Yankee Clipper Course pond. I haven't seen mice in my backyard grill, but it doesn't mean they aren't there, their droppings are there. D-Con Mouse Bait takes care of that.

To me, $850 is not much for a little piece of mind. I also think the screens look nice, here's ours. A 12' opening with four horizontal sliders.

I love my garage screen door. The only time we put the regular garage door down is when we go to bed. The garage stays much cooler and when we have other doors and/or windows open we get a tremendous amount of air circulation, much more cross-breeze than we had before we put in the garage screen. We have privacy screening so no one can see in the garage. I agree with John, the sliders are very convenient if you are walking in and out of the garage frequently. Since we are generally in and out of the garage via golf carts we chose the electric roll up screen door, installed by Thumpers. The style of screen door is an individual decision based on usage, but whichever type you choose, I think they are a great investment.

we chose the multi-panel slider privacy screen - best decision we could make - for us! there's nothing mechanical to break; nor can any old remote cause the screen to go up as remote controllers have been known to do to garage doors on occassion! and as john w posted - opening/closing just one panel at a time allows for frequent and easy access.
