On Tuesday 4/30 we had to have our 16 year old toy poodle Chloe put to sleep--she was my companion and I miss her so much---Chloe loved to ride on the golf cart and greet people all over the Villages--I will be looking for a new companion soon--small female dog. If any one knows of a dog needing a home--please email me--sjohnsondoran@gmail.com

My heart goes out to you. I'm sure you were a wonderful Mom and Chloe was one the the lucky ones. There are tons of dogs who need to be rescued, please reach out to one of them.

It is very hard, but time does heal. Our Kirby was 16 years and 9 months when we went through it. She was a toy also. We now have her younger brother we call Mr. Buster. He turned 17 on the 15th of March this year. I am sorry for your pain and truly understand it. The one thing I hold on to is the knowledge that we loved her so much and gave her everything she ever wanted or needed. I hope you find what you are now looking for and soon. There are so many out there that deserve your kind of love.

SO sorry for you! Pets are our children and it's hard to say goodbye.
Go to The Rainbow Bridge and read the wonderful stories. They have a Monday night candle ceremony you can partake in that really helps!

It is so painful to lose a loved one. I'm so happy to hear that you will be giving another dog a happy home. I said goodbye to my Duffy one year ago yesterday and when I was cleaning yesterday I came across one of Duffy's canines that he lost shortly before we said goodbye. Coincidence? I don't think so he is still sending me unconditional love.

I am so very, very sorry for your loss. We lost our Aussie boy, 14, last April and then we had to put our female Aussie down yesterday morning at the age of 10, so I know exactly how you are feeling today and I grieve along with you. You will get signs from them now and then which let's you know they are still with you and I truly believe that. Guess all we need is time. If you are looking for a particular breed, search the internet for breed specific rescues. Good luck with your search and let us know how you do. Again, so sorry.

So sorry for your loss. We have two rescues (one from Katrina) and sometimes I wonder who rescued who. I have felt the pain you're feeling today, and it is just awful. But know that Chloe will always live in your heart. Here is a baby needing a new home:

I am so very sorry for your loss - I know how difficult that is. I parted with Missy 18 months ago and still miss her so much.
If you are interested in another poodle, please go to the Florida Poodle Rescue. I adopted my mini from them and also do home visits for them in The Villages for people who have applied to adopt. Just google for Florida Poodle Rescue - I can never remember the website address. PM me if you have any questions and I'll give you my phone number.

Please accept my sympathies as well. We lost Dakota (the black dog in my avatar) in Aug of 2012 at the age of 14. It is always hard, but the enjoyment our friends bring to us more than outweighs the sadness at the time of loss. When you are ready to adopt, you will know it. As another poster indicated, there are plenty of dogs looking for their forever homes. Good luck!

So sorry for your loss. As many others have expressed it can be really tough when we lose a canine companion. A little over three years ago I lost my Hannah, a beautiful black/tan long-haired dachshund, who was also sixteen years old. I rescued her from a shelter when she was only two years old because......her "family" was going to have a baby. I'll never understand how some folks think pets are just expendable on a whim. Anyway, Hannah was my loyal, loving companion for many years and of course I still miss her to this day. I had her cremated, and she now occupies a space on my nightstand where I still say goodnite to her, every night.

I'm very sorry for your loss as well. Our pets bring us such joy and love and their lives are way too short. We said goodbye to our sweet 12 year girl Danny (black lab) in September 2011. It took us a few months (May 2012) to decide to bring another one into our hearts but found one on www.petfinders.com within a couple of days of making the decision to look. I can't tell you what drew us to this one - there were so many that needed homes. She was rescued in Missouri and in a foster home in the town right next to us in Massachusetts. We brought her into our home for a "test" (we have another older dog - wanted to make sure they got along). It was love at first sight! On Monday, we will celebrate the 1 year anniversary of our adopting her. We named her Gracie because she is our gift from God. :-)

Florida Poodle Rescue has poodles for adoption and they are a wonderful group of volunteers who will work with you to find just the right baby for you. Please consider them in your search for a new friend. I adopted a little poodle a year ago and she is our love bug!

A Dog's last Will and Testament
To a poor and lonely stray, I give my happy home,
my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillow and all my toys,
the lap, which I loved so much,
the tender, loving touch,
the hand that stroked my fur and sweet voice which called my name.
I will to the sad, scared shelter pet,
the place I had in my human’s loving heart of which there seemed no bounds.
So, when I die, please do not say, “I will never have a pet again,
for the loss and pain are more than I stand.”
Instead, go find an unloved pet– one whose life has held no joy or hope,
and give MY place to HIM.
This is the only thing that I can give.
The love I left behind.
This is my inheritance!
My Will and My Last Testament.

So very sorry to hear about your loss; what a wonderful life Chloe had with a loving family. You are very kind to open your heart to another doggie, and how very lucky that one will be. I volunteer at a Sanctuary and if and when you are ready, I can share our adoption contacts name with you. Again, please accept my sympathy, dog bless you.

I extend my sympathy to you. I was in your shoes almost one month ago. The fur babies really take hold of your heart. Remember that Chloe is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. May you find another fur kid to share your life with soon.

So sorry for your loss. Many of us know exactly how you feel. When I lost my baby, after some time passed, I found my new baby at this rescue place, not too far from villages:

So sorry for your loss. I'm sure she lived a wonderful life with you. They are such little treasures. It is too bad that we don't get to enjoy them longer.
You mentioned adopting a new little girl. Same breed?

This is one of the most beautiful and touching poems I have ever read. Thank you so much for sharing this.
To the OP, I too have a toy poodle, and it will be a very sad day when it is time for his journey to The Rainbow Bridge. I hope you find a new family member soon to fill your home with joy again.

I'm glad the poem touched you like it did me. I tear up every time I read it. I had a beloved shelter dog for 14 years. When she died I swore NEVER again. 3 weeks later I went back to the shelter and brought home our beloved Cocker, Rudy, the love of our lives! Please don't hesitate to bring another fur baby into your home. Chloe would have wanted it that way.

I will be on the lookout for a new baby "shelter dog" If any one knows some one in the Villages that is unable to keep their tiny fur ball please let them know I am looking.

Thanks every one for your continued support--I went to Pet Smart yesterday and found a wonderful male white poodle seven years old--we decided that due to the fact that that we have the multi-poo it would be unfair to the new dog--this dog needs attention--he was owned by a lady who passed away--he has all of the AKC paperwork--like my Chloe did his name is Bobbi Mc Gee.

I am really sorry for your loss. Some needy poodle is about to become the luckiest dog alive.
When we lost our golden, Bear, who was the first dog we raised from a puppy (the first two were rescues), I thought the sky was falling. I threw everything of his out (stupid--as if that could ease the pain), and then the vet delivered his ashes, collar, and a cement paw print with a ribbon, that you could use as a tree ornament. This was Thanksgiving, and every Christmas the vet put up a tree with angel ornaments with the names of pets who had passed away. There he was, right in the front.
This was all to, too much. We were of two opinions about getting another puppy so soon. But the angel tree put me over the top. Our "puppy" turned 5 last Thanksgiving. He didn't replace Bear, but he sure made the grief easier to work through.
I wish you luck in finding another dog. I know she or he will be a help to you in your grief.
