Need help-Primary docs who can prescribe pain meds

My husband has chronic back pain, and needs a primary doctor who is able to prescribe pain meds, one who is a "designated controlled substance provider":confused:.
Husband is currently under care of a pain management doctor, but his PCP cannot write the pain meds prescriptions so has to keep going back to pain management. He has seen 4 different pain management doctors and is finally on the right meds. just needs to stablize now and not needing to keep seeing specialists.
anyone know of a primary doctor out there who is able to prescribe pain meds once patient has already been to pain management?

Is this something special in California? I've never heard of such a thing. My sister is on Fentanyl patches for shoulder pain after many surgeries & her PCP prescribes it (in Ohio). Maybe someone more knowledgeable on how this works in Fla can enlighten us.

I know a little about how your hubby feels. I have degenerative arthritis of L-S spine & the start of spinal stenosis. No pain meds yet, just occasional chiropractic care & NSAIDS.

Have found that many PCP's won't prescribe some controlled substance and opiate pain meds and some pharmacies have stopped filling prescriptions for them. You may find that you can only get what is needed from Pain Mgt. Specialists. It's a tough situation which may be the result of abuse and pill mills.

I can understand the reason for the strict laws here in Florida, regarding pain meds. But doctors should be a little more forthcoming instead of lecturing the patient on the "80 yr old who had cocaine show up in her drug test"
My husband has verifiable spinal stenosis/arthritis of the spine which shows "severe" on the MRI.
just needs primary doctor now who can continue to prescribe the slow release pain meds he's taking.
