Are there any Kindle Fire Owners out there. I would love to have a review of how you like and use your KindleFire. I am contemplating buying one.

Like it or do not like it - all reviews appreciated.

I have a regular kindle and a kindle fire. I like the regular kindle for reading books. The backlight on the kindle fire bothers my eyes for reading books. I do like the kindle fire for surfing the net and e-mail but in the future may sell my kindle fire and get an Ipad.

I'm still on the fence myself, but this offer may sweeten the pot, if you haven't already seen it.

Through Mother's Day, May 12th, save $20 on Kindle Fire HD when you use the promotional code FIRE4MOM at checkout. Offer good while supplies last.

FYI Barnes & Noble has their 8GB Nook HD tablets on sale for $149 through Mothers Day also. The rest of the Nooks are on sale as well.

Have a Kindle Fire HD 7 inch.

Pros: Works as advertised. Use it for e-mail, web, reading, games and most Android apps. Cystal Clear display.

Cons: Some Android apps don't work as outlined due to some limitations in the KFHD. i.e. no GPS locator, no built in 3G or 4G.

But it is a very good and resonably cheap tablet.

I have an old Kindle and a Kindle Fire. I do most of my reading on the Kindle. I use the Kindle Fire sometimes, but I don't like the backlight. Sometimes I loan it to a friend if I want to share a book. I use my Ipad for surfing, etc., the Fire is too slow. My daughter has a Kindle Paperwhie and she loves it.

I have both the regular Kindle and the Kindle Fire. Love both for reading books and the Fire for some of the games and apps that are available.

As Russ stated, no GPS so that will limit you as to some of the apps that are out there and agree with his Pros and Cons.

Very reasonably priced for the things it does.

Thanks so much for all your replies. I will decide soon between an IPAD and Kindle Fire. I am not sure that the $$ difference is worth it for the IPAD.

I would recommend you consider the Nexus 7 starting at $199. It's very fast and has the latest version of Android. I had a Nook Tablet and it was very limited compared to the Nexus. Nexus has both the Nook and Kindle reading apps.

I like the Kindle Fire as a telephone on Skype. I also like the fact that I can download Amazon books to browse and often get them for free for the month as I am on Prime with Amazon. I use the ipad to hold all my music in the clouds which saves carting big music books around. Like the size of the Kindle for reading a book. JMHO

I have and LOVE my Kindle Fire. I have the original Kindle Fire, not the HD. I intentionally ordered mine before the new Fire models came out, because I was concerned they might discontinue my model. I did not want a larger version, which the newer ones are. The iPad is also considerably larger than the Kindle Fire, although everyone I know that has an iPad loves it.

My Fire slips so easily into my purse, I seldom leave home without it if there is even a chance I might have some idle time. With the Fire, you can join the Hernando County Library (if you're a member of the Sumter County Library), and they have an incredible selection of e-books that you can check out for two weeks. I've read so many books for free through that program. I also have several games on it, also, if I want to waste some time.

I've had my Fire over a year now, and it's honestly one of my favorite material possessions.

Agreed.

My wife and I both have one.....and we love them.

PS: I just looked at your profile.

My Dad is also a retired "Chief."

There's not too many of you guys, given that only 1% are allowed to hold the position at one time...by law.

Congrats.

I have a Kindle Fire HD 7" and like it very much. It doesn't have some fun things like speech recognition (that I've been able to figure out, anyway), but I bought it primarily for media content and it does that very well. Reading, watching a movie, or playing a game makes doctor's office and hospital waiting room time a lot less annoying. :-)

It likely wouldn't satisfy you solely as a tablet if you want more of the bells and whistles. Also won't replace a smart phone or your primary laptop/desktop so it's a specialized tool.

I just bought the Kindle Fire 8.9" a few weeks ago and really love it.
I am definitely not a computer savvy person so I was very thankful
that it was so easy to use.

I am an Amazon Prime member so shopping is just a quick press of
the button....not sure if this is good or bad (lol).

Also, love the ease of the Skype app as it makes communicating
with my children so easy.

I have to agree with some of the other comments about reading
books. I was wondering why my eyes seemed to get so tired
reading the screen versus a paper book. I guess it is the lighting
or at least I hope that is the reason.

I have watched a few movies I missed at the cinema and overall
the Kindle 8.9" HD has exceeded my expectations. Now, I just
need to buy a case to protect it.

I hope that helps.

I have the original Kindle Fire and adore it. I read on it, check email on it, go to Facebook and TOTV as well as play some games. It will never replace my grown up PC but for the price, it's a close runner up. I would not be without it. I got mine as a gift but I do feel that for the price of an ipad, this is a better choice. Enjoy.

I have had the Kindle Fire for about two years now. Never use it.
I reverted back to my original Kindle which I read on constantly every single day. I love the original Kindle. I've always been a voracious reader , however, I read even more now if that is possible as it is so easy to download the latest books........either right on the Kindle or at the Kindle Store at amazon.com

I guess I just didn't like the "finger swiping".......that's why I'm using my older original Kindle...........but I love it.....the old one.

I did revert to the KINDLE FIRE a few weeks ago when I was without my desktop computer.......I could do research on the internet but I never could hook up with the wireless email........so I had over 445 or more emails when my new laptop arrived......also got the wireless photosmart printer by HP.

Actually, two Christmases ago, we had just returned from THE VILLAGES and didn't have a lot of time to think unique gifts for our family, so I got everyone the Kindle Fire........my daughter's family all LOVE IT.....and use it all the time.........she, her husband, their teenager, the 12 year old son, etc.......ditto for our son and his wife in Colorado........but they've always been APPLE people.......so not sure if they use them or not......mostly they use their I-Phones and I-Pads..........

My husband doesn't use his Kindle Fire either.....prefers the older one.

We also have a big I-Pad and a mini I-Pad.
The first was given to me by our son as I thought I'd like something for my recipes in the kitchen........but hubby intercepted it and put all of his apps on it.........made it his own.

I gifted him this past Christmas with the mini I-Pad which he likes much better as it's small and easy to hold......like our original Kindles..........

Actually, I guess it is indeed the finger swiping I don't care for.......

I'm used to point and click with my wireless mouse........

Actually, when I called HP to order a new computer, choosing to get a laptop this time around, to avoid the desk clutter with the "tower", big thin screen, keyboard, etc.....I was offered Windows 8* or Windows 7 which is the point and click........since I was familiar with Windows 7 I chose it and I still prefer it...............

I asked for an honest opinion from the HP sales person on the phone....as far as my age group and which version they were buying.......???

Either the Windows 8* which is the finger swiping version.........
or the Windows 7 which is GREAT and much improved from my last Windows 7 operating system..........point and click. He said that people our age, including himself, end up sending back the Windows 8 within the two weeks timeframe.......and requesting the Windows 7.

I know this is more information than what you asked for, but it kind of goes along with why I , personally, do not like the Kindle Fire.

So, short answer...........we have them but do not use them.
Our daughter's family love theirs.......

Bought Kindle Fire last year for this move to TV (I can hardly get it out of my wife's hands)also bought the Prime option at Amazon for free movies and shipping on certain items.
I thought I might be buying a great deal from Amazon with the move down here but that was not what happened after discovering Walmart!
Being "stuck" in the Water Front hotel for awhile made downloading movies a lifesaver.
The Fire is not good for reading outside. I believe the Nook is better but have no firsthand experience.

One thing though, I hooked my Kindle up with the Sumter library and that ebook program is very nice!!

Thank you so much for all your valuable information. I am not sure that I would care for the finger swiping aspect of it either. As of today I have put the purchase of any tablet or such on hold.

So many people have responded and I appreciate all the information. Thanks to all

Just a quick add on - you don't have to finger swipe on the Kindle Fire. You can use a stylus with a foam tip to maneuver around.

I looked at tablets back when the Kindle Fire was first released.

It was not bad, but I felt the ipad better met my needs and got an ipad2.

But, I am not a fan of apple's platform either. I don't like their closed business model. I also don't like the fact that I cannot swap the battery myself. I could list a bunch of other things I don't like about their product... but I won't bother.

When I replace the ipad... I intend to get a Windows 8 tablet.

I will probably dump that ipad when the battery goes.

Windows tablets are becoming available now.

I have my eye on the Dell Latitude 10. Windows 8 with swappable battery. I will probably get a wireless keyboard and mouse to go with it..... best of both worlds.
