Golf cart charging

OK we're all moved in and I'm reading up on electric golf carts only to discover that charging produces hydrogen gas!

The cart is parked right next to the hot water heater and it's getting mighty warm in the garage!

Should we have concerns?

Have there been any incidences?

No incidences that I know of. Garages are not air tight and the amount of gas batteries produced is not that significant. Some cart dealers say to leave the seat up while charging but by the time the battery is charged, any gas produced has been sufficiently diluted within the garage.

Charging golf carts in a garage- will put off carbon monoxide. My mother didn't have the vents in her garage (the ones at the lower end of garages). Her alarm went off in the middle of the night. Fire department said level was critically high- they entered and ventilated how after they suited up--happens often. Get your garage vents installed.

I think the only way charging lead acid batteries can produce carbon monoxide is if they over heat and start on fire! Then you have a bigger problem than the carbon monoxide levels.

We have vents in our garage door but I still leave it open about 6" when I charge the cart. I believe that info was on a paper that either came with the cart or was in the charger box.

I personally would be concerned about snakes, rats, etc. coming in....if the garage door was open for that long.

We leave our garage door open a bit while charging and don't charge it overnight while we sleep. The people we bought our cart from gave us that bit of info - they say they learned the hard way when the Carbon detector went off in the middle of the night and scared them to death.

Been charging my 2 carts in my garage without a care in the world for 5+ years now. Should I be concerned about the fumes????:pray:
