I've said that these are the fastest yellow's I have ever encountered! You have to stand on the brakes to prevent going through one! Definitely a money maker for the town at our expense.

Wow! Anything for a buck. Can almost hear the rear-end collisions starting. Lookout next summer. I don't think we have any red light cameras in TV so maybe they'll leave us alone. I need all the reaction time I can get.

That was a very interesting story indeed. I agree if those timings were set lower the rear enders would really stack up. That makes for a very hazardous condition. If true it's a very bad decision in the interest of public safety just for extra revenue.

"Public safety" be damned. It's the "extra revenue" that counts. Remember, no state income tax in Florida. They have to make up for it in other ways, even if it ignores public safety, and it evidently does. Unbelievable!

I just have more faith in my fellow man than to believe anytime things like this come up it is because of revenue and not safety. I believe it is always about safety first. Facts first before declaring a conspiracy theory. If it was only about the revenue, they would simply charge for for current laws that are broken and increase the tickets.

I thought that all those lights with the little blue light on top have cameras.

Not good! Driving in Florida is a challenge at best, especially if you are not used to the aggressive driving habits of many. Scary situation as you approach a traffic signal and it changes to yellow, choice of speed up or slow and stop. Problem is the car behind you expects and wants to make that light and is right on your back bumper. Now, who is to blame for rear end collisions? The light, you or the auto behind you? Reaction times, decisions, age factors. Oops, forgot about the oncoming lanes, the person who jumps the caution and takes off just before the light changes to green.

While visiting The Villages in March my wife and I were surprised by the lack of "pedestrian phases" in the signal systems at the Lake Sumter Town Center signalized intersections. It is my impression that the yellow phase is incorporated into the signal timing and phasing to allow for the safe crossing of streets within designated pedestrian crosswalks. We noted the crosswalks without pedestrian signals heads or push buttons and were surprised by the omission.

Did we miss something and is this observation correct?
