A week ago, I lost my wallet on Hawks Bay golf course. I reported it to the starter as well as the ambassador. My playing partner (my neighbor), the starter and the ambassador all had the same response. "You will have your wallet back within 24 hours". Sure enough, I had it back by noon the next day. I've been a full time Villager for 6 weeks now and this is another reason that I love The Villages more and more each day.

I actually left my purse at the baggage claim in Orlando airport. Guess what? It was returned to me by UPS without a single thing missing.

I was not so fortunate. I lost my ID wallet on a golf trail over by Mallory CC. It fell out of my golf cart. By the time I noticed it was missing I had no idea where it could be. I went home, had a message on my answering machine from the CC Golf Shop. They said they had my ID wallet. When I went to pick it up it was all intact except for the $65 in cash I had in there. I was glad to get my ID and little wallet but yet, the cash was gone.

I hear all the great stories. Was I the only one ripped off or do they just not report those stories?

In Sweden a woman in our group left her purse in an establishment we visited. We went back a couple days later and it was unbelievably still hanging on the back of the chair (as she had left it) in which she had been sitting, apparently untouched with her passport, cards and cash all in it.

In New Zealand a woman on another tour bus left a plastic purse with over $1,500 in cash in a restroom at a tour bus stop. A passenger on our bus discovered it and turned it in to our bus driver who phoned the other bus driver and it was returned. The woman who owned the purse did not want to offer any reward but her bus driver insisted she give the finder $50!

It depends on just who finds it which is statistically related to the moral demographic of the population in the region. In most places in the USA today it would be gone, gone, gone. It is good to hear in The Villages many if not most lost purses and wallets are returned.
