I'm not very good at golf. In fact, I'm not good at golf AT ALL!! So, that being said, is there a miniature golf (putt-putt) course I could play on in The Villages or nearby? I'm not too bad at that and it would sure make avid golfers much happier that I wasn't holding them up all the time on the real courses!

Not being good at golf doesn't seem to be any deterrent to being on the golf courses - I've played behind hundreds if not thousands of them here. It seems as though the thoughts are - I've got golf clubs therefore I am a golfer.......

Bless you for your consideration of your fellow Villagers :eclipsee_gold_cup:

How does one get to be a "golfer" without playing enough to become good at it? We bad golfers have the right to a little fun, no? Even the best golfers started somewhere. Of course, I do think, if one is truly terrible and holding up others beyond a reasonable time, they should stop play and move on to the next hole.

Sookey, you need to play one of the easiest courses, they are rated, where the front tees are much less than a hundred yards. And I would be happy to go out with you and show you how much fun it is and keep an eye on the pace so you can see that you can have fun, be new, not be rushed or nervous.

I am sincere. Just PM me.

Kindest wishes,
An old duffer

Nobody (almost) cares if you're a bad golfer, just don't be a slow golfer. Pick up your ball after double par, play ready golf (just google or perhaps they explain this at the free "good golf" class they offer here.

Also, perhaps you'd enjoy bocce golf - the bocce courts at some of the neighborhood pools seem very underused to me, at least near us.

I would encourage you to take some lessons (if you have an interest in getting out on the course) and then go to the driving range to practice your swing. As Gracie indicated, when you are "ready," go out on the easiest of the 9 hole courses and give it a shot.

I took private lessons, and the first course I played was Shades of Green at Disney. My pro told me that if I hit the ball into trouble, and assuming that I am playing with a "relaxed" group, pick my ball up and drop it in the fairway. The idea was to get comfortable on the course, not focus on my score and enjoy myself. I actually hadn't finished all of my lessons at the time, but practiced on the driving range (don't just hit the woods, hit irons and switch up the clubs for real practice) and my pro thought that I should go out. If you find that you are taking too many strokes in the fairway, pick up your ball and drop it on the green so that you can also "practice" your putting.

And :clap2: to Gracie for her offer!

Heck, we aren't good at golf but we get out there on the easy courses and hit the ball. And if you are a bit slower you can let the people behind you play through. Everyone has been new at some point in time. You don't have to be a pro to play. Plus, it's getting some exercise.

A miniature golf place would be fun, even if there was a fee. It might be something to put on the spring survey. I thought the only activity missing was racquetball , but this would be a popular choice in my opinion
