Pool heater summer use?

Our solar system more than meets the need for maintaining comfortable swimming temps.

We do have a gas heater for the cooler/colder times of the year.
If you have a gas heater do you run it every so often just to dry it out(?) or function check?

We turned the propane supply line OFF to the pool heater 2 years ago when Jacks Solar installed our system and it has never been back on (and no plans to feed that propane monster ever again!). The pool is very comfortable using solar heating most of the year.

There are times (weather dependent) when the pool falls below 80 degrees (we prefer 83+) but we're OK to just enjoy the sound of the waterfalls and the beauty of the pool atmosphere and lanai on those days. With no plans to use the propane heater again I might be temped to remove it and sell it to someone who wants to burn dollar bills to heat the pool. We were spending between $800-$900/month for Jan-Mar propane to heat the pool so our savings for past two winters have more than paid for the solar system and the pool remains enjoyable.

If you have a solar system that can keep your pool at 80 + (even at 70!!!) during Jan/Feb cold spells you have a very rare installation.

We find that when the solar is not enough to heat the pool for swiming, the air is to cold to go in anyway. We use the hottub for a soak when the air is cold.
