Caught an announcement on the radio this morning.... The Entertainment Dept is adding a second Farmer's Market at Spanish Springs Town Square on Thursdays from 9-2, starting sometime in the next couple of weeks. This is in addition to Brownwood on Saturday. The gentleman said that many of the same vendors will be at SS. The trial run at SS earlier this spring was very well received and residents asked for more.
Probably more details to come in the paper in the next few days.
Glad to hear this...can't always make it down to BW on Saturday.
:BigApplause::BigApplause:
I agree, wonderful news! We were at Brownwood this morning and a vendor we regularly buy from told us the 20th of June would be the opening for Spanish Springs. Now we'll have two locations, two days per week.

When we first found The Villages there was a small farm stand where Too Jays now stands. That was part of our first experience here that helped bring us back. The farm stand, the bakery across the square and Italian restaurant/brewery still has my Dad asking me whatever happened to them.

Great news for those that don't have a car, and golf cart can't make it to BW.Hey! Where's there a distance problem? Those in the upper portion of TV could always solve their distance problem by replacing their golf cart with a personal sized helicopter! :duck:
Seriously, this is a very good point janmcn made and you can add to it the extensive amount of time it takes for those at the northern end to get to BW.
My wife made a comment to me that she thought that in her opinion it would have been wiser for the market be added at LSL instead of SS on Wednesdays because it is more centralized for all of TV. Sounds like that would have been better to me as well.
Anyway, this news is real good news for TV's way uppers! :pepper2:

Why bad news for Marion? I constantly hear on this board how people won't go anywhere their golf carts won't take them. And they definitely CAN'T go to Marion on them!

I have always been happy with the Marion Markets farmers wing. I like their quality and quantity. Plus there are the other parts of Marion market that I can go to while I am there. It is like one stop shopping.
I will try the Farmers Market in SS just to see what they have when they return then I will decide.

A lot of good it will be on Thursdays. What about all the working people. This makes no sence at all. Dumb! Many of us still work. I'll just go to Marion on weekends....Prices are better.

I'll just go to Marion on weekends....Prices are better.With all due respect, I fail to see how is this is dumb and makes no sense to be on Thursdays where the vast majority of TV residents can attend if they chose to? As you stated, you have Marion, and you also have Brownwood as well on the weekends. The ability to access two out of three of the farmers markets sounds pretty good to me.
Now, if by chance you're thinking... why not have the Thursday hours in the evening. Well IIRC, farmers markets traditionally take place early in the day since it is a "farmers" market and farmers are usually early birds, getting their produce or product to market pretty early. I think you would probably loose a lot of vendors were there evening hours.

don't mean to be confrontational, crummy, but i hardly think this decision is dumb!
a] many villagers do not work and are available to shop on thursdays;
b] this location is a benefit for those who live on the "other" side of the villages;
c] this location will provide easier access for golf carters from an area such as stonecrest - as well as daily travellers along 441/27;
d] spanish springs is a heck of a lot nicer place to shop than the market of marion - in my opinion.
i so hope this market is still happening when we again fly south for next season! i look forward to shopping there and supporting the venture!

No one checked your work schedule before making this decision? I guess they can't do it on any day. Some people work Saturday and Sunday.

There is also a Farmers Market on 441/27 going Leesburg.
If you come travel 466 towards 441/27, take a right and it is approx. 1/2 of mile on the right.. At the Log Cabin

Just got back from the farmers market. They are set up all along del mar up to Katie bells. Then they are on the street that is where the gym and gators dockside are. Not taking up the whole square. Very crowded trouble finding a parking spot. Lots of vendors some are the same as in brownwood.

Nice crowd at the Farmer's Market in Spanish Springs this morning. Parking is available, however, a short walk is in order. I mean you'll be walking thru the market area, right? My only thoughtis that the vendors who sell fresh baked goods, pastry, cookies, and the like, should have them covered. Having flies walking over the baked goods is just NOT good. You will no doubt wash veggies when you get them home, but I doubt you wash pastry and baked goods. Any board of health regulations about this????

From what I saw there wasn't many vendors that had the fresh baked goods that were not covered. The guy selling cookies had them under a plastic dome and the fresh breads where Saran wrapped. It looked like the open baked goods were for tasting. I would be more worried about the lady selling fish out of coolers I think that we're packed in ice.because it was really hot outside and I would be afraid of the ice melting.

This very issue was previously discussed in a former thread in greater detail, and immediately afterward I noticed that the waiting line for the vendor that I believe you're referring to, more than tripled over the next 3 or 4 weeks. It was probably just coincident and not because of the discussion, but I did find that interesting.
Also, my wife was speaking to the woman at that vendor a couple of weeks ago and she did indicate that she was going to try and find a way to catch the "flies" or bugs to at least help minimize their nuisance.
It is also my, and my wifes personal opinion that it would be impracticable to try and keep the goods covered in that the mere volume of customers and a constant on and off of covers would be counter productive for more than one reason. Perhaps one needs to experience the process of going through the line to understand, perhaps not, but that's our opinion for whatever it's worth!

I think she will also provide you with ice for your trip home if you ask for it and if she has enough left to do so.

Thanks skyguy79 for clearing this up about the fish lady. Will give her a try next week.Your welcome! BTW, feel free to ask her about how and when it's frozen and how long she would expect it to stay adequately frozen until you get it back into a freezer or better yet cook and eat it! :icon_hungry: I'd tell you here but I don't know the details except that I believe it's frozen right away while still at sea.

As Skyguy79 stated. We too purchased from them multiple times. They give you enough ice to withstand transport. The coolers are pretty well insulated, however, if there was an air space beneath them (like set on 2 x 4's) may help.

The lobster tails I purchased from the seafood stand in BW were still frozen solid when I got home. They were put in a nice bag with ice.
