While picking up my mail today I was in earshot of one dogwalker walking her dog alongside the landscaping at the mailboxes, and saying to another male dogwalker...."Look at how poorly The Villages takes care of these bushes..." She had absolutely no idea that her dog - as well as others - peeing on the landscaping shortens the life of the plants, flowers, shrubs...
You would think that with all the grassy areas they could stay away from the landscaping. I love, love, love the animals. OR, let them do their business at their own home lawn.
Whatever happened to courtesy, sensibility, or just plain common sense??

Got mine.....however I do smell a bit of bait maybe from a bored participant.....if they know the history of the subject it is bait. If they don't they need to do a poop search.

OP, I'm afraid you are "fighting a losing poop battle.". Nobody posting on TOTV allows their dog to ruin the landscape around the pool/mailbox areas. You can search several prior Threads and absolutely it just does not happen by anybody's dog whose owner is posting on TOTV. Please search the prior Threads on this subject.

How could one possibly pick up puppy pee?

Interestingly enough, there's puppies peeing all over the place at Tamarind Grove mailbox park, but I don't see one yellowed bush, nor any pee spots on the lawn. And I can't figure that out, because I have to follow my dog around with a pitcher of water to keep his pee from killing the lawn at our house.

I see time and again people walking their dogs and then the dog go's on the lawn near the curb causing burn spots on someone's lawn .
I do kmow someone that puts small pcs. of burger meat with Exlax combined
along his curb. Claims the owners get the message real quick

In my humble opinion, a few dead bushes or some yellow grass is FAR OUTWEIGHED by the enormous amount of pleasure brought to the parents of the dogs. No, I am no longer an owner of a dog. At my age, the poodle that lives in our house is a permanent member of our family.

That's about the cruelest thing I have heard. And if a dog does get sick most likely the owner won't "get the message" because they won't know where the dog got the contaminated food.

I think all those pups are simply "marking" not really peeing and that is why there is no damage. I hear you about what is going on in the yard when they really pee!

Nobody says residents should not have the joy of dog ownership.
It's about respect for property, plants and trees that the dog owners do not own. If somebody insists that their dog(s) must use grass and bushes to pee/poop on, then they need to plant that in their own yard. Everybody here has their own yard!

Seriously, we have a civic duty to diaper our dogs and put their poopy diapers in our own trash. Maybe the toddler diaper 24 months would fit my sweet girl. Wal-Mart sells them with character themes, and my girl is nuts about Little Mermaid. If you have a conversion chart for toddler to dog, please post it.

^This. And we should also NEVER allow our dogs off of our property because Heaven forbid they should need to pee and we don't have time to make it back home for them to do it on our own property. May as well shut down those dog parks, since dogs should always be on their owners property.

Can you please cite some scientific sites researching the effect of pet urine on plants? I have noticed that the nitrogen in urine boosts the growth of most plants, but when excessive can be temporarily detrimental. My girl is trained to go in pine straw or as allowed.
and then I'm wondering about animals in the wild who pee and poop all over and nature keeps making it all work?? They must not be doing horrible damage??
I love plants too, so if you can give research that her urine is detrimental, my girl will whiz elsewhere.

God bless my pet loving friends. Every time I see a dog thread, I swear I won't read it and comment on the machinations. The people who scold about dog pee are really a miniscule portion of the people who live in The Villages.
I've had so many PMs from prospective purchasers who own dogs saying "Does everyone really hate dogs?" Sometimes you'd get that impression from some of the posts. I'd just like to assure any potential purchasers that The Villages is really a dog-friendly city. People who have problems tolerating dog behavior are few and far between. And 99% of dog owners are classy, respectful and wonderful people.

Dogs, as well as most other mammals, get rid of excess nitrogen from their bodies via their kidneys. It comes out in the urine in the form of urea. And since urea is a common ingredient of many fertilizers, I would expect it would be good for plants.
As a matter of fact, if it's not raining to hard, I often go out in my yard and pee on the plants and bushes, just to help them along. I usually drink lots of beer first, since this keeps the urea from being too concentrated and burning the grass.
I have a nice crop of tomatoes coming in now. Send me a PM if you'd like a sample.

When I go to pick up my mail in santiago there are a few people walking their dogs with no baggies to pick anything up. Infact, last weekend I was sitting on my lani (corner house) when a woman with a large dog on a leash let her dog squat on my lawn. I had a fit when she started to walk away. I jumped up and yelled to her but she just kept on walking. Are we supposed to hang out plastic bags on our property for these ignorant people?

There is something serious wrong with me. None of my neighborhood dog friends pee or poop on my lawn. A couple of them have their owners drive them over to visit with us and they give a nice paw and try for a couple of kisses.
I felt that I could join the critics of pups here when Helene and I were coming into the neighborhood a couple of days ago and we spotted a woman in a golf cart with three dogs we didn't know and we didn't know the woman. We live in a contained neighborhood of 53 homes and everyone knows everyone. She had them on leashes walking around our mail kiosk. I was ready to join the throngs of angry folks, nope, I didn't know her. She wasn't one of our neighbors. She did have a bag and removed the offending stuff.
Later I found out that she is a hired dog walker and one of her charges was Prince, a poodle that I do know.
I am so glad I don't have to feel disappointed or miffed.

If I might add another point... Now that veterinarians are advocating neutering male dogs by age 6 months, a lot of them are not lifting their legs to pee. Therefore they're peeing like females, by squatting. Their urine is thus just as concentrated as that of the females.
We had one dog neutered at 9 months. He lifted his leg half the time and squatted the other half. Tended to mark on walks. We had our current dog neutered at 6 months. He only squats to pee. Never marks, either.
This is just anecdotal, but something to think about.

This has been exhausted in previous post. What more can be said? There are dog lovers and a few dog haters that do not know what they are missing not having one. Again responsible dog owners do not let their dogs destroy property of others and pick up after their dogs. Most likely 98 to 99 percent of owners. Okay, just imagine a television show where someone lets a dog "go" in someone's yard. They get chased by the property owner who is waving a sheaf of "written notices" and is confronted by the red-faced and throbbing vein the the forehead Villager. Words fly, fists fly, one Villager drops over with a massive MI. Benson and Stabler take over the case. This is the premiere episode of "The Villages - Sh-t Happens".

It appears there are a lot of non dog owners that do not like dogs. I do not condone letting a dog pee or dump on anyones lawn but could we get some relief of not putting all dog lovers in the same category? I was searching on line and just wondering if anyone has tried any of these items. Amazon.com: dog urine lawn (http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=dog+urine+lawn&tag=mh0b-20&index=aps&hvadid=1470431201&ref=pd_sl_220pb1ag4a_b)
If you have can you tell me the results or are these bad for dogs. I am trying to decide if I should move to TV or to an isolated place on earth to keep from upsetting others. There is a lot to like about TV.

If you have can you tell me the results or are these bad for dogs. I am trying to decide if I should move to TV or to an isolated place on earth to keep from upsetting others. There is a lot to like about TV.
I think most people like dogs, I think the actions of their owners is what upset's people no one likes their lawn being used as a toliet for some one else's pet. if you are a resposable pet owner you wil get along just fine. Treat people with respect and you will find this a great place to live

Nobody says residents should not have the joy of dog ownership.
It's about respect for property, plants and trees that the dog owners do not own. If somebody insists that their dog(s) must use grass and bushes to pee/poop on, then they need to plant that in their own yard. Everybody here has their own yard!
I have a neighbor and they are ****ed, that when their nieghbor who lives next door and walks the dog on their property and the dog wanders off a few feet to my friends property and you know what happens. Dog owners YES WE SEE YOU! KEEP IT ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY!

who do i see about getting a refund of taxes paid on it and getting the owner to come and maintain it? thanx for that info.
You didn't/don't pay taxes on the strip. You only pay for your property. The owner of the street owns the strip.

The first 10 to 15 feet (depending on your village) of the yard from the curb is not your property. Look at your survey.
So that makes it alright. Where do you live and all the dogs can poop and pee on your property since its not yours. Opps almost forgot within 10 to 15 feet.

When is the owner of the street, going to come mow, apply chemicals, and repair spots from dog pee, on this strip?

Cannot find any instance where the owner of the rest of the property does not retain ownership of the easement property as well. An easement and a right of way may be the determining difference here. Most roadways do have a right of way usually measured from the center of the roadway to each side. Streets may or may not have a small ROW. Many times utilities are forced to get a permit from the state to put in new facilities in the state owned right of way because the property owner will not grant them an easement across his/her property to place a new cable etc. State right of ways are owned by the state or county and that is why they have to be mowed and maintained by those entities.

Affirmative and Negative easements:
An affirmative easement is the right to use another's property for a specific purpose, while a negative easement is the right to prevent another from performing an otherwise lawful activity on their property.
For example, an affirmative easement might allow land owner A to drive his cattle over the land of B. A has an affirmative easement from B.
Conversely, a negative easement might restrict B from blocking A's mountain view by putting up a wall of trees. A has a negative easement from B.

wrong...with our sfh we have provided a 5' [not 10' to 15' - that would be the entire front yard!] easement/right-of-way for the purpose of access to utilities. we are responsible to maintain and pay taxes on the entire lot. also provide same at the rear/sides of the house!
fr my deed restriction:
"3.1 Easements and rights-of way in favor of the Developer reserved for the construction, installation and maintenance of utilities such as electric light lines., drains, water supply lines, telephone and telegraph lines or the rights-of-way shall be confined to a 5 foot width along the rear and dividing lines of every building plot and along every street, road or highway fronting on said Lot."

Dog owners YES WE SEE YOU! KEEP IT ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY!
You are preaching to the choir. This has been thoroughly discussed on TOTV time after time, year after year. All TOTV dog owners are on board with it. We're a respectful bunch!
It's obviously the non-TOTV members that are causing the problems. :boom:
