This morning I decided that I needed some stuff from either Walmart or Target - lightbulbs and stuff like that. GPS took me to a Walmart in Leesburg and I must say it was a pretty crummy store. Is there anything better around here? Or is there a Target? My GPS just doesn't seem to know where I live.

A newer Walmart is on 466 near the intersection of 466 & 301. Target is in the shopping center on 441 that is to the left of where Rolling Acres Road intersects with 441 (if you're on Rolling Acres, turn left into the shopping center). It's a good idea to buy a street map of TV as many GPS are not updated enough for the area. And even when they are, they are confused. Very confused.

First of all you need to get your GPS updated. There is a Walmart on Rt. 466, eastern end near Rt. 301. It's a big one.
The Target is in the shopping center at the intersection of Rt. 441 and Rolling Acres Road, where all the big box stores are located.
Hope this helps.

Guess you got taken to the Wildwood Wal-Mart -- closest to 466A. Go up Buena Vista to 466, turn left, Wal-Mart on the righthand side. Target is off 441 -- 466A to race track (past Burke's), turn left; right at the stop sign; left on Rolling Acres; left at shopping center right after the school -- Target in that strip mall. You can get to either of these stores by golf cart but they are a distance (nice rides, though).

Usually with my gps I program for the fastest route. However, in the Villages that does not work very good. You should program the gps for shortest route. For some reason the gps gets confused in the Villages.

Thanks to you all. It's good to know that there are better choices than what my GPS did to me this morning. GPS is a blessing and a curse sometimes. Or is it me that's cursing at it sometimes? LOL.

When I first moved here my GPS guided me to the same Walmart you visited and I felt exactly as you did ! I was there at night and I must admit that I found the parking lot to be poorly lit and even a bit scary [ not easy to admit -but true ].

Then I went on line and discovered the much nicer Walmart off 466 .

Totally disgusting. I know that Walmart isn't exactly high end shopping but that one was creepy. Not going there again for sure !!!! I only bought the lightbulbs I needed. Tomorrow may take a shot at finding the one off 466.

Stop by AAA and get some maps, or purchase from Barnes/Noble. For the best map (IMHO) of Villages, purchase one from Village Mercantile.

You'll like the Walmart on 466. It's clean, the employees are friendly and it is very Villager friendly. Plus it's golf cart accessible.

We often shop at the Leesburg Walmart as well. They have the same stuff as the other Walmarts without the crowds. It's also the closest to where we live. Staff is always friendly.

We discovered Leesburg Walmart last spring and have shopped there as well. I'll admit the parking lot is a little cramped, and the store is older, but I didn't notice it being dirty. We too like the drive through the countryside on the back roads, and it's closer to us. Walmart is not where we do most of our shopping, but we use the Leesburg one now that we've found it.

Like the Winn Dixie in Wildwood too! Less crowded and plenty of parking. Nice people.

I watched the Wal-Mart near Spruce Creek being built. Then the one on 466. The Wal-mart in Fruitland Park/Leesburg was the only one to shop in before that.

I never found a thing wrong with it. It's old but so am I. Not a bad thing!!

Have to say we like the Leesburg Wal Mart too. So many times the 466 store has empty shelves for a lot of the things you wanted. Employees are always equally nice at both. I would probably not go on Friday night or the first of the month but other than that it is usually not crowded.

Diane, it sounds like we're shopping addicts, but one of the first things I did when renting was to get a map and take a drive down both 466 and 441. You will be amazed at all the stores. We would be driving and I'd go, "Look, Bed, Bath and Beyond! Kohls!" TV has just about every store you could want. After you're here for a while, you"ll find the shortest way from your house. Happy Shopping!

Morale of this story is to always check the store's website for current open locations - and THEN check the GPS for directions on how to get there. For instance I just updated my Garmin GPS and looked for Popeye's chicken - it takes you to an empty lot on 301 - The Popeye's is located on 44 & 75 a few miles away from there. The Popeye's website has it correct but my GPS for some reason doesn't.

The Villages map can be a little overwhelming, so we printed out each page of the shopping areas within TV. It gives you store names and locations. I just put the pages in a notebook, so it's easier to read and we haven't gotten lost yet.

Glad so many of you defended Walmart in Leesburg. It is old, but from where I live, it is very convenient. I use it all the time. The parking is good and taking the back roads is nice, makes me feel like I'm in the country.

Diane, why don't you give me a call and I'll take you on a quick tour so you can get a feel of the layout.

I also shop the Office Depot and many other stores in Leesburg, mostly because they are so convenient to 466A.

Nope Redwitch...THAT Walmart is in Fruitland Park, Wildwood is the other way on 466A. It is fairly near the intersection of 441/27 and 466A. I would shop there when we lived in Hadley and it was an older building but they had some things not carried in the other TWO Walmart superstores in our area. They had at that time art supplies and canvases and I found some prints with mirrored frames that were of boats and they were beautiful and inexpensive.

The other two Super Walmarts are on 466 and on 441/27 going toward the Stonecrest area. When you find the Target you will find a treasure trove of other good places near there; Pier One, TJ Maxx, and not too far from them are Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohls, Tuesday Morning, Petsmart, Michaels, and Joanns...and Kirklands.

Getting out and driving around and exploring is very rewarding.

P.S. There is a smallish JC Penneys store in Leesburg.

the walmart in leesburg is extremely convenient and easy to get to it you live in the southern part of TV. Buffalo Ridge and the one on 441 in Summerfield are real hassles to get to especially the ridiculous traffic and all of the traffic lights (unsynchronized of course). there is also an Aldi right next door to WalMart and a DollarTree which are well stocked and easy to shop. And sometimes not shopping with a bunch of villagers is really quite pleasant. some of us can be 'pushy'. just some of us.

Although I agree that the Leesburg Walmart could stand to be updated, I've found the shopping experience there to be better than most Walmarts where I've shopped. I've never found it to be crowded or had any negative encounters with other shoppers or staff. I do not enjoy shopping and always try to make it as efficient chore as possible. Never thought I would pass up a nicer store like Publix to shop at Walmart (usually because of the size), but that changed during the winter when you couldn't even find a parking space at Colony. I'm glad to hear others agree with me.
