I'll go first! I'm Kitty Escue, single 15 years by divorce, one son in Gainesville where I lived before moving to Gilchrist in TV Apr 2, 2013. Tall, short-haired blonde, mid-boomer age, in love with my dog, Emma, the beautiful boxer. Excited about football season coming..a UF grad, Tebow to Patriots thrills me, and I have a new superfast action TV!
Retired in 09 from social work, in which I encountered reality that bored a hole in my Pollyanna optimism.
Joining cha3 for trip to Italy in winter, hopefully. Crazy about dancing, ballroom, argentine tango, jumping around, music picks me up with it. Kitty's fave grouch scene is people driving too slowly.
Excited about all the opptys in TV: belly dance, gator club, goldwing, yoga (I'm certified to teach but out of practice), dance classes.
I welcome an invitation to any safe activity, dance, movie, eating out, house party with a new friend or group.
Why I have not bumped into KathieI is a mystery....one of these days!

kitty, you are going to be the new Ambassatrix of the villages singles scene! you are so brave to put yourself out there and you really did describe yourself perfectly :) as an "oldie" as opposed to "newbie", i hope your encouragement will bring some timid souls out of their hiding places and get a good "meet and greet" going...great idea!

Gary Brown in St. James. Was married for 30 years until 2010. One son, Sam. Worked for Social Security for 30 years...first writing legal briefs, then managing, then moved to systems and was the systems manager for the Regional processing center, then moved to systems security and anti-fraud...back managing all systems folks in the midwest. Retired when pressure from the higher ups get intense after I called out my boss for unwanted sexual pressure on his underlings. Still friends with almost all the managers I
worked with. I play guitar (worked in bands for years) and am a photographer. I love TV - a great place for a second life.

Good move Kitty. This is Bill, from your party. I signed up using "maybe" when I was considering buying a house in TV. I bought one in Summerhill in April. I hope to rent it out when I am not here. I am recently retired and expect to travel a lot. I am not sure what I will do, long-term, with my PA house. Divorced, with sons 28 and 29. Still single, and still looking!

Debbie in Charlotte, moved here last November. Lived in Alaska 7 years before I moved here, before that lived in Minneapolis my whole life. Was married for 17 years, single now-husband passed away in 2011, no children. I worked for Procter & Gamble as a Contract/Purchasing Manager, before I moved to Alaska. Love the Villages and want to get out with more singles, a little shy about the new life I am leading, but I am out on the golf course trying to hit that golf ball. I know Chax3, and Kathie great gals, and have talked to Kitty on the phone, I haven't shown up to too many parties as it seems family keeps visiting, should be available to do more now.

My name is Steve. Been in TV for two years, but have been on TOTV for much longer. From RI (still have a home there). But spend most of my time here. I'm a typical sports guy-tennis, golf, bike riding, yoga, pickleball. Always looking for golf partner(s).

Hey Steve, I can't ride a bike, but I don't fall off much doing yoga! Do you have a fave class for yoga? I have to learn pickleball, but just saying it makes me feel silly. How do you get started?

My name is Sandra. I was a North Carolina tarheel for 55 years + 13 years in Virginia. I retired in 2009--worked in insurance offices for 48 years & I don't want to answer anymore insurance questions. My husband of 39 years died 3-2012 in a lawn mower accident. I have two sisters living here & another sister who purchased a house here but hasn't moved yet. I moved here to be near my family. One of my sisters is handicap & stays every other week with me. Since moving here last October, I have taken up golf & become a vegetarian. I am a very independent person & enjoy looking up dead people (genealogy). I have no children so I can pretty much do what I want to do. I do love Las Vegas. Just booked my next trip. Haven't been to a dance in 20 years. I enjoy talking & quiet moments. My computer is in the sunroom & faces the reserve behind my house. I enjoy seeing the pine trees & the squirrels running up & down the fence. I'm laid back except when it comes to driving. I have a hard time with the speed limit here. I know I am retired but I want to get where I am going as my time is valuable. PS--my sister would tell you that I am too opinionated. I always give her a hard time, but she is my baby sister.

My name is Karen and I have owned a home in Bonita since 2008, but only used it occasionally since I was not yet retired. My official last day of work is Friday, June 21! :MOJE_whot: I have been a high school business teacher for 33 years. I am an avid reader and enjoy long walks for exercise. I also play some pickleball and golf, if that is what you want to call them. I will be a snowbird for a few years until I decide to sell the house in New York State. The longest time I have ever stayed in my villa is 10 days. Looking forward to spending the winter in sunshine! I will be arriving in late fall and am looking forward to the next chapter in my book of life. Hope to meet some of you soon.

Hey ya'll, anybody want to go to Brownwood Farmer's Mkt Sat A.M?
Cha and I met Misky (Steve) at the Farmer's Market today. TOTV is a great way to network. Steve and I exchanged numbers by PM and then met briefly in the square.
It was a lovely safe way to say hello and get to know another single person.
Nice to meet you, Steve!

My God, Kitty...the butterfly has definitely shed her cocoon. I agree with Chax3, you are the rightful leader of our reticent minority. After all, was it not you who invited all the singles who posted on the 'FOR SINGLES ONLY' thread to a party at your home - and after only a page of posts? In just 2 months time, you have put a huge dent in that invisible wall and have brought quite a few people together for the first time. You are amazing, brave and inspiring. Nicely done. I say!

Hi, I'm Jackie. I'm currently transitioning to my cyv in Duval. Last day of full time work is June 28. I am a pharmacist working at a VA Hospital. Between watching Federal inefficiency and many (not all, thank goodness) people trying to scam the system, I, too, have lost my pollyanna outlook. I'm a divorced female, with a son with one year of college to go (sorry, Kitty, Go 'Noles). Like to garden, read, travel, go to movies, have dinner and good conversation. Looking forward to adding to my activities. Hope to be there at least half time in July. Waiting for my house in St. Petersburg area to sell so will still be working part time until then.

Kitty,
I so want to meet you...you've made some comments (Pollyanna for one, the need for re-charging another) that rung true to me. Plus, you apparently are not adverse to going to movies like Iron Man....I'll be looking for someone to go to those types of movies with me. and then there's that football game held every year....

Hey Everyone!!
Debra here and have been here for 2 years. I joined TOTV before I moved from NC and also read the book. I love TV!! I have a daughter who is going to UNF and lives here in the summer and 2 little Maltese dogs. Playing social golf but would like to really learn to do well at it. I like the SBB's bike and hike clubs although too hot right now.

Hi, Debra, my son almost went to UNF--beautiful school. I have two chihuahua mixes
I tried golf once with my son but he's too competitive and it turned me off to the game...might be interested in trying again in a more social setting

Hi all -- I moved here in 2010 to be near my sister, by way of Sunnyvale, CA > Grand Forks, ND > Rochester, MN > Pago Pago, AS > Honolulu, HI > Saipan, MP > Mountain Iron, MN > Denver, CO > Austin, TX. Previous careers include secretary (ah, the 60s), Audiologist/Speech Pathologist and Librarian, which prepared me for computer software support not at all, yet that's what I find myself doing. I work remotely, which is awesome when I need to take the clothes out of the dryer in the middle of a meeting. Mute!
I broke my personal rule of "no spouse, no kids, no pets, no plants" with a couple of husbands along the way, but lesson emphatically learned. I'm not wife material.
Turn-ons include sitting my butt on the couch, watching HGTV, playing board games, and reading. I used to collect English red and white transferware and Simpsons World of Wonder playsets but don't anymore so why mention it.
I tell myself I don't attend many TV activities or clubs because they're all during the day when I'm working, but the truth is I'm pretty lazy. As I get older, the list of things that are Too Much Trouble gets longer and longer. An introvert, I draw strength and recharge by being alone.

Question, is it not a requirement to have an India accent to work as a computer software support tech. I’m sorry it is late and I am tired and the devil took over and made me say that.

I am still working on my kaka or was it dodo dilemma. It’s hard to make progress when the person on the other end of the line is an answering machine. If you hear swearing off in the distance that’s me but not to worry I am just talking to myself.
So as I set waiting for a return phone call I remember Miss Kitty.

How do you know I don't? <eyebrow waggle>
Okay, I don't but can offer up a slight speech impairment that affects the way I pronounce my Ls and Rs well (and again, my name is Lori). People have been known to ask me if I'm from NY.

The kaka story came to light in a couple of pm’s and was offered as a explanation for my temporary self imposed isolation. Long story short, I am working a “my money retention program.”

ron, a word of advice about the perverse sense of humor of the universe.....recently i decided to take a very expensive (for me) family trip to europe...therefore, i embarked on my own "money retention program", vowing to cut expenditures to make up for some of this extravagance. almost immediately my sprinkler system broke and i had to spend $40 to fix it and $85 on extra water which ran while i was out of town! i had to spend $75 to spray some bagworms on my tree! my niece decided to get married which will cost over $1000 with airfare, rental car and gift. in short, if i decide i will be too frugal, the universe finds some way to force me to spend money! so just forget your money retention program, get out here and join us for some fun while we still are healthy enough to enjoy it! leave the green hulk in the closet :)

Dianne, you are so sweet, dear and special. There are times when my financial concerns affect the lifetime moreso than the temporary. I was in the same boat as Ron and was totally nuts about outcomes...like the mortgage that went thru 6 days before closing. Maybe Ron's gotta do what he's gotta do now and drink kool-aid later?
Let us know when you can, Ron!

I have been following the " Meet and Greet " for several days . Each time I convince myself to Post , I pull back .
Not many guys Posting here however I like the positive upbeat energy of this Board so here goes :
Obviously, from my handle , my name is Jim . I moved down here over 1 year ago from Buffalo , NY . I was a Banker for over 35 years most of it at an Exec. Level [ boring and irrelevant I realize but that was my life 60+ hours a week ].
Been through the pain of a late in life , unanticipated but necessary divorce and have mostly just kept to myself since moving here . More recently I have been slowly getting out and joining Clubs .
I`m a lot more interesting than this intro [ then again maybe not ]. One on one I can be a bit shy at first which is amazing considering that I did a great deal of Public Speaking in my career !
I enjoy and follow most every sport altho ice hockey is my favorite and a life-long passion . " Back in the Day " I actually had the following season tickets all at the same time :
Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bisons [ AAA Baseball ]
Buffalo Bandits [ Lacrosse ]
Arena Football
Studio Arena Theater
Sheas Performing Arts Center [ Broadway Theater ]
The Albright Knox Art Gallery
I was active on several Charitable and Cultural Boards . I was assigned by my bank Chairman to work with the General Manager of the Buffalo Sabres when they were going through an extended ownership search and bankruptcy .
I also enjoy history and following current events .
Ironically , I never had many quiet moments until I moved here which I will admit is ridiculous . I would really welcome any opportunity to meet and get to know some new friends, who , like me happen to find themselves single at this stage of life .
Thanks for listening . Jim

Yay, a Bills fan!

Hi Kitty,
Just arrived from Washington State, hoping for a permanent home. What a lovely place this is -- home here is a thousand lakes, carpets of warm water for little seaplanes. Love to fly, write, listen to conversations about our adventures, and quiet delights of chess. I've been alone for a while in a beautiful solitary house, time now to look over the horizon southeast!

There are more ultralight airplanes here than in any state. Lots of them are seaplanes, some require no licenses, and they're cheap. It might be well to learn how to fly them, though, as that's more fun. :)

I wish I could be there to join you. Unfortunately, I am in Michigan and renting my home in the Village of Charlotte.
I worked in the Washington, DC area for 26 years and moved back to my home state Michigan when I retired. My 89 year old mother doesn't want to move to TV!
I hope you have a get together sometime when I am there because I would love to meet you.

Hi All - I enjoyed meeting some of you at Carol's July 6 party. Now I realize this forum might help me meet more singles here. So, I've been here 2 1/2 yrs, tried for awhile to get another computer job, even spent last year getting another skill, but gave up and finally retired 4GOOD. I live in Country Club Hills and plan to continue to throw the biggest and best Christmas Party (and maybe another one for New Years Eve) around TV. Please come. PM me for details.
Also I know how most of those techy gadgets work, or can figure them out 4U, will take profile photos and post 4U, home selling photos, etc. PM me for help too. I work for peanuts, friendships, drinks or a meal -depends how much time I spend:clap2:
Hope to get involved in something like rotating house/game parties - cuz I'm not nuts about going out to rec centers and restaurants for everything. FUN should be FREE (I'm jus' sayin')...

This is the most honest and truly funny bio post I have ever read! Superb, Lori.

Can you give more information on joining single clubs that are not all party animals??? I am new to TV and I like to have a good time but some of these people drink way too much and the women are so aggressive. Where are the the the nice single people you just like a little quieter time and are about establishing friendships. Thanks!!!

Hello everyone! My name is Bob and I have been an owner in TV for 2 years. I have not signed the papers yet, but I plan on retiring this Sept. Hopefully 9/3 will be my last day. I have worked with USDA for 35 years in WV. While it has been very rewarding, I am due for a change from the red tape of government. My first grandchild is due 9/14, so I will be staying in WV to meet the little fella and then heading to TV. I sold my house in WV in June and have moved my furnishings to TV. I just need to throw a few things in my truck and hitch-up the boat and head South. I have been single for almost 10 years. I must admit I enjoy my independence, but I am looking forward to meeting new people and finding new activities to enjoy. I hope to be finally in TV for good the end of Sept. Hopefully soon after I get there I will have an opportunity to meet some of you. Regards.

Hi tv folks. Sure wish i lived there. Still in connecticut but definately thinking about moving to tv. I am a widow, a former teacher and editor and author (one book published). I have a ba from boston college in education and an mls. Any other bc grads out there? There seems to be such a great community spirit there in tv. I'd be there now, but i keep chickening out because i am alone and a move there by myself is scary. Someone give me some courage!!!!!!!!!!

My husband died 3-2012 & i purchased a house here 7-2012. Moved 10-2012. It was scary, but i had two sisters here & another coming next year. Family is fine, but we all need friends & i have found you can have a lot of single friends on totv or by joining clubs or getting out & meeting people. There is so much to do here, but it is up to you to get out & do it. Don't be afraid--enjoy the rest of your life.

I'm making the move by myself, as well. And when I first decided to head to tv I was very apprehensive, but, everyone I've met here (on talk of the villages) has been so supportive and ready to walk me through the transition when I finally get there that I've overcome the nervousness. I feel like I have friends there already. I'm sure if you hang with us a bit, you'll feel the same way.

I just sent you a PM, I know you called me yesterday, so will try to call you back today.
You have friends, and you know me personally. Don't worry. I moved all the way from Alaska with 2 dogs in a pick-up truck only knowing 1 person. Started my life all over and I was nervous and it was a scary. But I couldn't see myself living alone in Alaska for the rest of my life, even though I loved it, and I am somewhat of a loner and I could have really gotten into being a hermit up in Alaska. But I knew this was the best thing for me, moving to The Villages. I have lived here 8 months and have great neighbors, friends, and very good support group from my "sisters", as I support them also. I am busy when I want to be, and never feel "alone". I am your friend and I will help you any way I can. That goes for you too Katie!

Thanks. As the clock ticks down closer to September I find my excitement about the move overshadowed by the reality of walking away from everything that's comfortable. I'm sure anyone who is making this move on their own feels this way. After all, it's a major life change and financial investment. That's why these threads and the other singles I've met here have really helped to reduce the anxiety. And these monthly Meet and Greet parties, that Kitty started, seem to have gone a long way to lessen the likelihood that once in TV we don't end up isolating ourselves, simply because the singles clubs are a little too intimidating. The feedback from those who have gone to these parties have had nothing but good things to say about these more intimate social gatherings. Speaking of that has anyone stepped up for the August party? It would be nice to keep it going. Since I have September and Cha has October it looks like there is the possibility that we could maintain a Meet and Greet social club (albeit non recognized officially) which might help a lot of singles who have not ventured out as yet.

Kate, edited cuz I said this all wrong...
I feel like you are already one of us...
the parties are great, but just to be clear I'm ok if we don't have a host/hostess for a month here and there. We skipped June..
Hopefully I'm just facilitating group energy and t'would spoil the whole notion for me to be in charge of it and as I have said I'm too lazy.
but I think I'll make a separate thread to see if folks might enjoy a picnic at a park in august, now that you mention it! that way men can grill. I like that. me jane, you grill.
The great thing about using parties and totv like this is that we are starting to get together in small groups spontaneously sometimes with general invites and sometimes, just a pm saying wanna do a movie or lunch and it doesn't matter if it's a guy or gal, we are making friends (not dating).
I think I speak for many of us to say this makes us comfortable getting to know other guy and gal singles with no agenda other than company and fun.
Yes, moving is a pain.

Kitty, I agree 100% that no one should control it. (Although the truth is, without you there wouldn't be a Meet and Greet for singles in the first place, so there's something to be said for having, at least, a single's ambassador which I hope you will continue to be for all our sake) I really believe it would be a definite plus if, as a group, we managed to keep the momentum going and met regularly. It would be something to look forward to for those of us who may not be quite as comfortable in a structured large group setting and a way for new singles to get their feet wet - so to speak. And from these parties the more spontaneous activities come so much easier. Of course, I am only basing my theory on reading the feedback posts, but, they are pretty convincing.

Katie, I didn't like the way I put the above so edited it. see if I did a better job...anyway, IMO if we demand that every month we have a party, we become a club like all the rest with someone in charge telling us what to do.
I started this thread just to network us with each other in the hope we can meet each other here safely in small groups, not in clubs, and without agendas.
Parties get a separate thread when someone wants to have one and so can any other meet idea, movies, go to the square, etc. Let's keep this meet and greet thread open for any and all networking and avoid constraining it.
Hugs,
Kitty

There was an article in our daily newspaper --- The Daily Sun - about a gentleman from Rochester , NY who moved down here 8 years ago . He became a widower while down here and despite how much he loved it he felt that he should return to Rochester to as he put it " age with old friends and family ".
He sold his home here in the villages and purchased a Town House in the Rochester area . After only a few months he realized that he was not only bored but basically alone . As he said all of my old friends and family were so busy with their own lives that they had no more time for me than when I lived in the Villages .
He sold his Town House and returned to all of his Villages activities and his " Villages adopted family of good friends ".
I believe that his story speaks volumes . Come on down . You won`t be alone or a " stranger " very long . Not even a month . All the best . Jim

You know, we could try to get tix for the game...cost a fortune, but the kids'll never figure out that's where the money went..

I buy off Stub Hub. The FSU-UF game is expensive but it's so much fun to go to. I've never been to the Swamp, though. Definitely we should look into it. The earlier we look for tix the better.

I taught grades 2-8 over 39 years and was also in a facilitator position. I'd like to see what type of activities are available. I know there are many. I like to read, play games including a few card games, and plan to be involved in First Baptist Church of TV. Of course, I'm hoping to learn to play golf too. I'm looking forward to this next phase of my life. :-)

I know this thread is supposed to be for singles that already live in TV but I have been reading it for awhile and want to tell you that it has been very helpful to me in making a decision to move to TV.
I'm not there yet but I will be coming in Sept. to visit some very dear friends who already live in TV and (hopefully) to find a home for myself there.
My husband of 31 years passed away last year and now I just want to meet some new friends, have some fun and enjoy my hobbies.
You all sound like a great group of folks who enjoy each others company.
Thanks for all info that is posted. I look forward to meeting you when I move there.

Actually we love coaching you in if you aren't here yet. I'm sorry about the loss of your husband. To my surprise, the friendships are easier to make than where I came from. There are people interested in absolutely anything you like to do and it's fun to find them and make your own activity.
I look fwd to meeting you. Post as often as you like and ask questions too.

Jim
Hey I'll start cheering for the Bills! They have at least 4 Seminoles on their roster! QB,Field goal kicker, punter and long snapper. GO Buffanoles!

Hello everyone,
We've been in Springdale/Woodbury Village since Feb 13'. I have responded to outdated posts example meeting new people posted back in 07' on here. I didnt realize it until I looked at the small print above the pic of the people.
I do find so far people are clicky here in TV, hard to make friends.
I play as a newbie mah jongg at the rec centers and have been enjoying the game. Have been looking to be involved w a group as perfect ex. Someone told me that people who have been friends for a while "if you're lucky and they're sympathetic" they might allow you to join them. So far no luck, wondering that now I'm posting a new post on this, has or/is anyone feeling the same?
Also I notice that people older than us dont seem to have patience w us, I guess that's because they've been there done it not interested anymore so they've moved on too. People moving to TV of all ages, in all the Villages, from N of 466 to S of 466 I'm wondering what their feeling is on this topic??? Looking forward to hearing from you with an open mind please, Lynn

Lynn, the text you have above is cut and paste from another thread you started today which also identifies you as "Lynn and Bruce"....this thread is for singles. The very reason this thread was created was to solve the problem of walking into an activity or club cold and trying to make friends, which is more difficult for singles in my view. I wish you well.

I sure hope that people are not clicky and making friends will be easy. I finally retired and will be in The Villages at the end of the month. Being a single, I am concerned about making new friends and being accepted. I am not one to "put myself out there" but will try to move outside of my comfort zone to be able to fit in. I look forward to golfing, playing pickleball (perhaps with Kitty?), attending exercise classes, etc. I am not much into dancing but do enjoy listening to music. I hope you have just run into the wrong people and that most people are very accepting.

Here is an easy way to make friends for anyone just a little shy.
I did this on the second day after we landed here at our home in Hadley six years ago. We brought some card tables and chairs and a few pieces of furniture, but were not company READY.
I went around and knocked on doors and said we were going to have a coffee at our house, please come, next day. Bring chairs for driveway.
Went to Publix and bought five coffee cakes and some Styrofoam cups, etc, and they came. Maybe twenty of them, our neighbors, new too.
It was the beginning of some very beautiful friendships that have grown over time. They were people who we had never met and they have grown into people we care about.
The fear of public speaking is not the greatest fear in the U.S. I am convinced the fear of entertaining people in your home is.
Or another idea is to make a big casserole of your never fail recipe or buy a frozen Stouffers Lasagna, and ask people to bring something to share. Potlucks are common in the middle part of the country, not so much on the east coast, I have learned, but it is a great way to have a gathering and easy on everyone.
People don't mind paper plates and plastic forks. It is the getting together that matters.
Ann Landers
aka Gracie.
P.S. You get back out of life about what you are willing to put into it.
People are just as shy and scared as you are. Take the first step.
Mahjong is NOT the place to make friends. It is shh. shh. shh. You can't be friends until you talk, listen, smile and care.

Thank you for the suggestions. I am fortunate that I have a sister in The Villages and have casually met a few people. I am not shy but am not an "in your face" person. I plan on trying to get to know my neighbors now that I will be here for an extended period of time, not just my usual 10 days per year. I am looking forward to meeting lots of new people, making great friends, and enjoying everything The Villages has to offer. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you some day.

I'm finally in The Villages! I arrived on Wednesday and have been slowly unpacking and running errands. I said slowly because the day before I left to travel down, I stubbed my toe in the middle of the night and broke it! :22yikes: I guess I was still half asleep because I didn't realize it was broken until morning! This is really putting a damper of my desire to be playing golf, pickleball, and going for my 2+ mile walks. I sure hope it heals quickly! So far, it is feeling a little better every day.
It still has not hit me that I will be here for at least the next six months. I hope I don't have a meltdown when I realize that I am not at my villa for one of my short vacations. I am sure I will adapt just fine, but you never know. I hope I will be able to meet many of you who post frequently.
Time to do a bit more unpacking.

I am so enjoying you guys! This way of meeting people is tops...took my houseguest to Katie Belle's oct 31 and there are several single friends dressed for the occasion and jumping around on the dance floor having an easy time, being friends.
Friday there was polo and four of us went for the first time. We all loved it! I won a bet and lost one...
We have a few new people in the singles community whom we MUST get to know, and I can't wait! So what shall we do...? anybody want to throw down an idea for lunch or dinner that we can invite the new people to? There's Karen and Jim and Ginny...
and Keelie, who ALMOST met us at the Halloween R&R party...

Hello Everyone, I am a SWF and I will be moving to TV in a couple of weeks as a snowbird. I am a little nervous, which isn't normally like me but this is a big step for me. I purchased my home in TV in April and returned to my home in N.E. PA without even spending a night in my new home. I recently returned for a short visit and purchased a few items for my Patio Villa and am now trying to decide what to bring with me. Love TV's garage and estate sales so not worried about setting up my home MY Way..... My dilemma is!!!
I have been single for quite some time and am used to making all the decisions for my life so I am surprised at where all this anxiety is coming from. Can anyone out there relate to what I am going through?

It's normal to feel anxiety when making a move from one state to another, as I did the same thing. The extra stress comes with having to make all the decisions by yourself and it can become overwhelming.
Generally, most people fear change. They rather stay in a situation that is uncomfortable than striking out in a new direction. Everything is so new like finding doctors, how to get around and where are all the places that you need services from.
Once you get comfortable in your situation, the anxiety will go away. Just give it some time. Most people say it takes six to nine months to start feeling good about the big move.

I can't wait to meet the people on this site....
I could have written your post, and, in fact did. look for my previous post titled "moving and second guessing". I was in the middle of packing stuff and the stress of deciding what to bring, doing it all by myself, suddenly realizing the things I liked about where I used to live, were really getting to me. Like you, I've been alone for a long time so was quite taken aback by the emotions. Rest assured it's normal. Also, when you get here, there will be tons of decisions to make (i.e. buying a golf cart, what cable, phone, etc.) realize it all doesn't have to be done at the same time. I have a hard time reminding myself I don't have to do it all at once. Give yourself time to just relax after what will be a stressful time. Good luck. Look forward to meeting you.

I can totally relate. I purchased a cyv in sept. My home in NY is now sold and I will be moving to TV in 4 weeks. It feels like everything is moving along so fast. I never expected to sell my home so quickly. I am also making all decisions by myself since I am widowed. Its all so overwhelming but I am trying to be strong. Somehow I feel I am making the right decision to move to TV. Its scary but exciting. I hope to meet some of the folks on TOTV when I get there. I've been reading this site for quite a while and the people who post are so nice and helpful. Good luck to you.

To all of the new singles coming to TV you can rest assured we have all been thru the anxiety phase. The people of TV are very friendly and you will find you have great neighbors. There is so much to do here. I've been here less than 3 months and have been playing golf 3x a week with 2 different groups and joined 5 clubs and been invited to some others. The singles I have meet on this site are a great group of people. Its a small group although growing, but not intimidating as some of the larger groups might seem. Don't be affraid to contact us and ask for any help you might need. As someone mentioned earlier take your time with all of the decision making and be sure to take time for some of the fun stuff. It will come together and fall in place. Welcome and enjoy TV. Duckhunter-

Thank you to all who wrote encouraging words. I am here in TV, left my home in Northern PA and arrived at my TV home 22 hrs. later. Took me a bit to catch up on sleep after the long trip but am gradually settling in. I hope I have the opportunity to meet the singles in this group, I enjoy reading your posts, you all sound like a great group of people reaching out to make all of us newbies feel welcome. Thank you......

Hi Veronica:
I lived in Bridgeport Ct. What city did you live in?
The move can be daunting for a single person. I found that if I did a little bit at a time, such as declutterig and deciding what to throw out, or give away, the moved became much easier. You also must keep the end result in your mind. This place is beautiful as you will see when you get here.
You can do it and it's so worthwhile!!! This place is like a Disneyland for seniors.
Just gather some friends to help you and everything will be done. For a single, is a little bit more difficult but there is a tremendus support system of people that can be tapped into.
Hope to meet you one day round and about in TV.
Joe
BTW - Consider this post a badge of courage.

Hugs,
Kitty
I vote for you to be CEO and President of "The Meet and Greet Club For Singles".

My name is Joe, and I am originally from Yonkers, N.Y. I lived in CT for 28 years before moving to TV. My carer was in electronics with working on computers. I have'nt fix anything for several years, so I know just enough to be dangerous. I moved to TV, that I had been looking forward to for several years. I also found it to somewhat overwhelming but if you don't think you have to do everything at once, you'll keep your sanity. There are a lot of things to do and decisions to be made. Just do one thing at a time and don't stress yourself out. Easier said, than done. I love TV and it's wonderful people.
Maybe, the next party will be at my house, but I have to get my new furniture. Hopefully this will be accomplished sometime in December. Looking at the calendar, it could be December 21st. Hopefully, people will be in T V as opposed to going back to their homestate to visit family, including me.
If my furniture arrives earler, then the date might get bumped up. Keep you posted.
Us singles, need to stick together and enjoy each other as it makes living in Tv so much more enjoyable.

i agree with joe & carol. Also, chachacha needs to be vice-president. I so enjoy our meetings. Joe, you don't need furniture. We just need to bring chairs & tv trays. Better do it now before you get a house full of furniture. That's one reason i haven't volunteered yet.

Sonnys has a nice outside bar, with a reasonable happy hour, great bartender, Brittany! No it's not a pick up joint, but a very nice casual setting to meet, show up Tuesday after 530, see you there!!

Hey Steve,
How good are you at golf? I'm always up for a game but I'm spotty, have been playing a year. I live in Piedmont near Nancy Lopez.

I am a snowbird from Baltimore - Annapolis in Maryland. I've been here a week for my first time ever, finally acclimated and settled in. Now I'm looking for single men and women to socialize with. I'm pretty youthful and active. Help!!
