What do you think of the USGA "while we are young" advs running on the golf channel? I think the one with Clint Eastwood is a hoot. Would making such a comment work with slow players in the villages or just make people mad?

Slow play is a global problem. The USGA, PGA ,etc continue to market against the turnover in this game. They have been in discussions on making the game easier.

Yes, rubicon, The President of the USGA was interviewed about this campaign early on in the broadcast Sunday and his point was friendlier tee's, rough & pin position would help the casual golfer He also talked about more opportunity for people that want to play 9 holes. He stated that many people, because of work & family are pressed for time and some clubs/courses don't make 9 hole play friendly. I think something that might work here is taking 1 or 2 courses per week and making them 'quick play'. Easier pins, and 9 hole opportunity. Just my opinion!

I think we have nine hole courses with different levels of difficulty. The problem is partially that golfers still feel they can hit as long as they used to and won't move to the easier tees.

As long as we have humans we will have slow play but what a great way to try to educate the general public and new golfers.

I think this "while we're young" campaign is brilliant and subtle.

I love the slogan particularly for this lovely place full of younger olders and older olders who feel young.

Block the ad out of your mind when playing the EX 9 hole courses. If you are knowledgeable and play well enough, get off the EX and go to the Championship courses or at least understand where you are and who you are out there with.

Ridiculous. Pace of play is important no matter what course you are playing. There are many skilled golfers playing the executive courses along with beginners and others who don't aspire to become proficient but still enjoy the game. Everyone should be aware that their pace of play affects everyone behind them, even those who have yet to start their round. The executive courses are not the minor league of the golfing world here.

Oh, I so DISAGREE with you! Many of us "old" golfers have additional things we need to do some days and the nine hole courses allow us to get some golf in that day and do the other things we need to do.

I very respectfully completely disagree with what you said about the executive courses here and the folks who play on them. We ALL need to keep in mind the pace of play, it is only human kindness and respect and thinking of others.

I can't agree with you more. Beside teaching the game I also do demo days for Titleist. When I fit players for new drivers the majority don't realize how short they actually hit the ball. I fit them using a launch monitor and they always say those numbers can't be right. When we fit our motto is " Leave your ego in the trunk". The USGA also has a spot out with Jack Nicklaus advising golfers to tee it forward, move up a set off tees and you may never move back.

OK, then how about giving a test that would show ones ability of the game rules ediquie and ball striking skill. If they fail, don,t allow them on the course unless they have someone that has passed the course that will assume all responsibilly for them.

I just wish for everyone of all skill levels to be able to come out and learn the game without being intimidated by better players that have little or no patience.

There is a time limit to adhere to that must be controlled by the marshals, and not an impatient hot head. Just because there is a gap between the group in front of you and the group in front of them is not a measure of slow play but I have seen so many angry folks for that very situation.

I am no fan of slow play but far worse is someone making a fool of themselves when they THINK a group is playing slow. I have seen far more fools than slow players

Better golfers also need to remember that they were new to the game at one time, cut the new player a little slack and chill out. Do remember that I don't advocate new players holding up play for the entire round, but every once in a while, circumstances may cause a delay. Even happens with more seasoned golfers.

I wish I would have worded mine that way first. Like Gracie said, it is just simple respect. That should come from us more knowledgeable players FIRST.
I have witnessed rude behavior from guys that felt they were being held up when the time clock would not back that up.
