Wow... what a beautiful dog. She has that smooth coat that I like (less shedding). Her eyes look a little sad but a forever home would fix that. She will make someone a beautiful companion.

OMG! I know that dog! She was on a high speed highway when I passed by the other day and I went back to try to get her in the car. She ran into horse farms and I followed her in the car. She almost got kicked by a horse and scooted under the fence just in time.
I knocked on the nearest door and notified the equine folks, who spread it around the neighborhood because none of us could catch her.
I'm soooooo glad she is safe. I made a vow years ago to never pass a stray that I might help after I passed on on the way to work and saw it dead on the roadside going home.

Okay - Update - We now have someone who has offered to foster Baby until such time that a loving person with a loving home decides this dog would be a match made in heaven and all persons who have been instrumental in getting the word out about Baby's dilemma are in agreement to this adoption. I want to thank all those who have contacted me with their words of comfort and support and offer to assist in helping to defray the cost of Baby's heartworm test, rabies/distemper/bordatela immunizations. Hurray!! Baby has a foster home! Sandi does small animal rescue as a non-profit and when she met Baby, the small animal label went out the window. I have looked this dog in her beautiful, longing eyes, and she has the soul to please an owner.
Sandi describes her as sweet, loving, well-behaved, personable. what else would a boxer/lab be but a lover?

Please spread the word if you have other ideas or networks for the adoption of dogs. Baby will make you better!

Our beautiful Boxer/Lab mix, Baby, was placed in foster care today in a boarding kennel that is operated by a very caring individual who has so often stepped up to the plate for us. Baby's immunizations have been brought up to date; however, her heartworm test proved positive, so, another cost, she will be on medication for another 6 months but the prognosis is very bright and it does not appear that she is symptomatic in any way. She continues to steal everyone's heart and has just totally endeared her to mine. Please spread the word that this precious dog is wonderful with dogs/cats, children, and adults, great on leash, and would absolutely be comfortable and would love sharing a home of either large or small family. Baby is the love of all. The owner of the Boarding Kennel who is fostering has fallen deeply in love with her as have we all. Baby's medical and food bill is $75 to date and yes donations are greatly appreciated. Right now it is only myself and a dear friend that are committed to paying the bills. Others have offered but nothing has materialized.

My Friend and I are planning on donning a harness with writing "Adopt Me" on Baby one day this week and walk her around near Pet Smart mall. We'll see. I will do anything to help locate her a new family.

The meeting between Baby and Emma was beautiful and, unfortunately, I didn't take pictures. But luckily, Carol did take pictures and she is going to email them to you.

Carol has arranged with a friend who manages a Rescue, to have Baby on Pet Finder as a favor and we expect a big response. The prospective adopter was at Pet Smart last Friday and was drawn to Baby because of her gentleness and calm demeanor. I made a home visit to the possible future home for Baby today. Once again Baby demonstrated her beautiful manners when she met two cats in the home that rubbed all over her and she stood still and wasn't phased in least. Their one year old child patted and fell all over Baby and she remained docile and sweet. However, their dog was a bit excitable, and agressive and Baby stood beside me and growled which was totally out of character for her. I believe she was protecting me. We have postponed the adoption until next Saturday when there will be someone in the home for a few days just to observe her interaction with all involved. Honestly, I am very fussy where I place this very special animal and given time to think about all this, I might deny the adoption. I do not care for uprooting Baby and placing her in a home for a TRIAL RUN. So, continue to pray and maybe the Lord will open other doors.

Sandi, my Emma just doesn't like some other dogs. You saw that she and Baby wanted to play, right off. When you have a very well balanced dog, I think they sense when another animal is aggressive or dominant or fearful.

I've seen them work through that, but not always.

A question... doesn't the treatment for heartworm involve total rest so the heart doesn't get overtaxed in its weakened state caused by the worms?

I have heard stories of dogs having to be crated for many months to keep them from overexerting themselves during the recovery period.

Baby's vet opted to use "slow kill" method of treatment because she is only mildly infected; that is, some prednisone, along with ivermectin/pyrantel pamoate (once a month) for the rest of her life. Baby has never manifested any signs of heartworm disease.

Baby continues to live with me: however, I am moving back to N.E. the end of this month and I am praying that maybe that very special person will find a spot in their heart and home before that time arrives to adopt her. If anyone wishes to see her or visit her at my home, please call 352 633-3169. Thank you so much for continuing to be interested.

To those who remember Baby, who was found wandering off Rte 475, Summerfield, and has been living with me ever since, the search for a forever home has ended. I am totally in love with her and cannot abide the thought of separating from her. I have sold my home in TV and am returning to New England to care for my sister who is very ill. Fortunately, a friend of mine has offered to care for Baby in TV until I have time to purchase a home and get settled in N.E. and then transport will be arranged for her to catch up to me. Whew, it truly has been journey but oh what a blessing! Thank you all for your support and interest. Goodbye.:spoken:
