I am so sick with allergies, I did not have any problems last summer but for some reason I am hit with the mega allergies. Sinus and ear infections that don't seem to be going away even with mass dosage antibiotics and steroids. Now my friends are starting to get this whatever it is. It starts with sore throat and goes on from there. Am getting cabin fever now as I have been inside for a week now.

We call it "The Village Crud". Have taken 2 neighbors to Urgent Care to have meds prescribed. I know it makes me vulnerable for it too, but what's a person to do? It comes with the territory.

I had all that you describe only mine took place from mid Feb through middle of April. Two rounds of antibiotics, but refused to take the steroids. Same as you, was here last year same time and no real problems other than my normal allergic reactions. Saw 2 doctors and as a last ditch effort, saw an ear nose and throat doctor. The ENT gave me a sample of Patanase which is a nasal spray to help with my post nasal drip and resulting cough. I took along with my daily dose of Zyertec and Advil cold and sinus (behind the counter version). The Patanase worked pretty well. Finally the middle of May, I was feeling like my old self. They say the spring pollen counts were off the charts and I can believe it! Since I have been an allergy suffer all my life, I knew this past spring was far worse than I have ever experienced in many years. Since this year was our second year here in FL I was at one point beginning to feel we had made a huge mistake in moving here because of how bad I felt. But it passed and I am happy again. If this ever happens to me again, I will be going to an allergist for sure. Good luck and hope you feel better real soon. Hope this helps you. JC

Yes, yes, yes! I have different symptoms then you but I definitely have been feeling my allergies these past 2 weeks. I intend to just ride it out until whatever it is I am reacting to passes. :yuck:

Ever since moving to TV I have been experiencing dryness in my throat; post nasal drip and sore throat. Sometimes it gets so bad I can hardly swallow. Never had any kind of allergies before:ohdear:

Allergic reactions to the new pollens, molds, airbourne dusts, construction dirt, etc. is a huge problem for many new people moving to this area.

Allergic people really suffer when exposed to new allergens. The release of histamines as our bodies react to these new allergens cause our nasal passages to swell and weep and may involve our lungs too and make these tissues a fertile place for bacteria and viruses to grow.

It helps to keep your home closed up and the air on. If you live in an older house, immediately change your air conditioners filters and even if you live in a new one, you might do the same because you will be living with construction dust thrown into the air in large amounts. We bought a room air filter at Walmart for about a hundred dollars that has a rinseable filter and we clean it often. Our daughter who lives with us keeps it running night and day with the door closed.

When you come in from being outdoors, take off your clothes with pollen on them, take a shower, wash your hair and change into un pollened clothes.

It may be wise to seek the help of a physician and/or an allergy specialist.

I do not have them as bad as Helene but they were worse when we first started coming here and have gradually gotten better and Helene's have too.

I truly understand how crummy they make you feel and with this heat it is almost unbearable at times.

I have found that almost all of my allergy symptoms went away after we moved here from WV. I suspect that what drove it there was leaf mold (we had 50 acres of heavy timber) - raking and bagging the leaves would have required 20 or so dump trucks to haul it all away.

So far, I feel great here. Do keep in mind that the warmer/more humid air here will result in mold and mildew if you aren't careful. Take a close look at showers and tubs and around sinks. A cleaner with some beach in it will probably kill any mold that is just starting to take up residence.

For what it is worth, Memphis is wore than here!
