View Full Version : Shocked what TV did not provide

Hi,
Here is an email that I sent to our salesman after coming down for the Life Style Visit.
Hi,
With the exception of having to drive over to a recreation center to answer emails, the trip was nice and informative. For some people the idea of not having access to the internet may not be a big problem. For many, many others it is unacceptable.
If we did not have a friend with us to we would have locked the doors and went to the Waterfront Hotel. Our friend and collogue, Dr. Damon lost total interest in buying a home. His thoughts were that if they can not provide something as simply as internet, what else would they skimp on.
Here was a man that could've taken out his checkbook and purchased a home on the spot.
Me and Brenda are still interested in the Villages, but think you might do one of three things.
First, offer free internet.
Second option, offer internet at an additional charge. Many large hotels do this.
The very lease make certain that people renting from you know upfront that if they need the interenet they must leave their home or Vila and drive to a different location.

He can afford to pay for a house on the spot, but can't afford email on his cell phone?
Oh, well.

Wow, a buyer lost because he did not get Internet in the beautiful home while on the Lifestyle Preview? Was ready to whip out his checkbook for a house but does not have email capability on his phone?
I know the Villages Sales Offices all have Internet hotspots as well as Panera, Starbucks, McDonald's, all the recreation centers, and probably quite a few more.
It would be nice to log on just anywhere in The Villages like you can in some towns like Ocala but it has not happened yet. Surely, though, it is no reason to say you would not buy a house here - but each to their own.

Wow, what an inconvenience for you (tongue firmly in cheek). The point of the LSV is to get out and learn about all the great things TV offers not sit in the house on the internet!

I found this to be a bit of a problem, too, but surely not an insurmountable one. There is wifi available at Barnes & Noble right beside the preview villas, and it's available at Starbucks, TV Sales Office and other places right there.
What you really ought to consider is this: In our villa neighborhood like the one you stayed in, 100% of our 70 neighbor households are online, and from what I see with my own eyes every day, probably 70% of them have iPhones and iPads with which they have wireless internet access anywhere. You'd be surprised, I think, at how tech savvy TV residents really are. This ain't your father's "retirement" community.
It's not an excuse for TV not providing wifi, but the fact remains that a large percentage of people coming here to explore buying/moving here carry their wireless internet device with them.
By the way, it's quite likely that it's not that TV "cannot provide something as simple as internet", but that providing a nightly rate of $100 with no added hotel or other tourism taxes on a 3-bedroom 2-bath home that includes golf cart and bicycles has to be done cost effectively.
That rate is lower than one room at the Hampton Inn where you might have free wifi internet access, but you don't get a full sized, well-appointed, clean home from which you can walk or take a golf cart to see all the things that really matter in exploring a home purchase here.

Pretty lame to complain about email capabilities.

We found the lack of Wi-Fi in the Creekside cabanas a very minor inconvenience. While the wife was getting ready every morning I made the short ride over to the Barnes & Noble parking lot to use theirs. And we also carried our laptops to Panera Bread & to Starbucks, where we enjoyed talking to other Villagers while we caught up on things online. I can't understand anyone being THAT inconvenienced.

This was a lifestyle visit wasn't it? What it would be like when you/they are retired, living in TV? Did they only go to the rec center for e-mails or did they try any activities there? Did they really get into the lifestyle of TV or was it just a vacation without maid service, free breakfast or in room internet/HBO?
You'll find a lot of folks on TOTV that have complaints about TV, the developer, the trains, the wastewater treatment plant, kissing lanais, snowbirds, crowds, bugs(love or otherwise), IRS lawsuits and there are lots of folks that want more house for the money, more seclusion, bigger yards, less deed restrictions than you can get in TV. But I can't remember anyone deciding this place wasn't for them because of no internet during the LSV. Hope they find what makes them happy. I did.

Wow, my wife and I came down last May (2012) and also couldn't find the Internet right away. Had checkbook in hand ready to buy too. But, we "adjusted" and went downtown with our laptops, had a cup of coffee, and did our business on the internet.
No bid deal!!!
...and we wrote the check. This place is terrific!!!

no internet access in the lsv villa? oy! such an inconvenience! now, getting lost on a cart path is my idea of inconvenience - except that ya get to meet so many nice villagers when ya pull out 'the map'!
just maybe the lsv is designed that way to encourage lsv'ers to get out and about to explore all that the villages has to offer rather than remain house bound to internet access?

I am so sorry about your experience. I truly am. I agree with you that in today’s world people NEED to know about this as a part of the booking of a room. Easy access to the internet to way too important to folks today to not be notified in advance. I too will make an effort to remind folks about this but to be honest so many folks book it before they even talk to me since it is a different department. I your case I forgot you made your living off the internet and likely needed easier access. I apologize on my part and I will learn from this.
I will copy your message and send it to the correct folks to see if they can FORCE our bookers to inform people about NOT having internet. Your efforts in writing this message won’t be in vain.
Again I am sorry about this. I hope you got home safe and are now rested and plugged back into the good life. Be well and take care.

The OP made a valid suggestion, and one I support: that LSL advertisements and related literature should simply state that LSL properties do not have internet access. Wifi access is available at our regional Rec centers and various establishments at our town squares.
I thought that we as a TOTV group informally agreed not to personally attack posters, even if a poster cannot spell, observe the rules of proper grammar, or states opinions that rub folks the wrong way.
It is clear that most responders to the initial post (myself included) deem that the position taken by the OP's friend (and even some of the OP's comments in support of that position) landed, at best, at the intersection of absurd and ridiculous. I am not sure, however, that expressing such a position warrants personal attacks.

I can understand that it may be inconvenient not to have Internet for the LSV, as I am one who has to access it multiple times a day for business. However, why would you base weather you want to live here on that? Surely, when you purchase your own home you would have Internet service so that would not even be an issue. I believe the reason they do not provide Internet is because when people come here on a LSV, they are cramming many, many activities in in a short time period and most people don't spend their time on line. There is so much to do here. I would think that people who are here trying to figure out if they want to put down roots would be checking the Internet once or maybe twice day, which would be a perfect opportunity to go the the various places that offer wifi. Sorry you based you decision not to live here on the lack of Internet. You have no idea what you are missing......

Wendy..please don't say that or even think it. We will all have a reason to disagree with another's point of view sometimes and some people do it diplomatically and some people do it sarcastically and some people do it with humor. There isn't any way short of not communicating that we will always agree.
There have been times when I viewed something in one way, but after seeing a lot of people had valid views the other way, it changed my mind.
The OP has no idea how much many of us love this place and I am sure he is confused by our reactions to this matter. We are usually all set to smile and nod when someone has completed their lifestyle visit and enjoyed hearing them rave about how pretty and clean and big this place is and how much there is to DO.
It has been mumbled under the breath of staunch supporters that the Morse business could use a shot in the arm when it comes to the computer part. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that soon they will be tops in that area too.
It used to be that lifestyle visits were sometimes in the homes of people who allowed the villages to use their places for rentals and some snowbirds don't have internet access except when they are here.
It also is sometimes hard to convey emotion when we are posting and sometimes how a thing is written will just strike us wrong and make us annoyed.
To the OP, try us all again. This truly is pretty close to the friendliest place I have ever lived.

A lifestyle visit with internet in the villas would IMHO indicate that internet service was included in the price of your property. It is not; we pay our own or go without. This is the lamest excuse I have ever heard. There has to be a "the rest of the story" here.

YES - just came back on to say that I think this is a hoax and if it is it worked really well. After all it's hot enough to fry eggs on the sidewalk, it's too hot to play golf or pickleball, and unless this is your "club" day there is not much to do other than to sit in front of the boob tube or the computer ................ We've all got our knickers in a twist, we're at each others throats accusing each other of being mean and the one thing that gets us all stirred up is to have someone say something negative about TV - the perfect storm has been created. Somewhere there is probably a nasty little teenager (or even one of us) having one hell of a good time at our expense!

If I made my living "on the internet", I certainly would not want to be dependent on a hotel's Internet connection to conduct important business transactions.
I do not even check my bank account balance using an unfamiliar internet server, mainly because I would have no idea how secure such a connection
would be.

If the only reason you didn't buy or your friend didn't buy was "no internet access" , then you really are grasping for excuses not to be here..

Well spoken. TV does "everything" so well that I would expect WiFi and would be unhappy to be without Internet during the week. As in your case, it wouldn't be a deal breaker but just an unexpected disappointment. Most of us would handle it a little better than the Doc ----I would have spent some time in Barnes & Noble had some coffee at Starbucks and some food at Panera and adapted quite well to the situation. :icon_hungry:

I agree with you, justjim. But there is no substitute for being able to come home after a loooooooooong day of house viewing, get in your jammies, relax, and review house plans and listings in the comfort and privacy of your rooms. Or skype your kids to tell them what's going on in privacy. I too thought it was a bit byzantine that internet was not in the LSV accommodations. This would be such an easy fix. There's almost nowhere "hotel-like" these days that doesn't include internet, free or paid.
Friends of ours had to go to a rec center to skype, and the internet connection was spotty. Not everyone has a smart phone with a hot spot, or an air card.

I think I'd be seriously ticked off with no internet in my house/room, whatever. Yes, I could use my phone but it's a small screen, hard to type on and downright inconvenient. Yes, I could go to a WiFi spot, but why should I have to in this day and age?
That so many of you belittled the OP is inexcusable. You should all be ashamed of yourselves! So what if you think it was a petty reason to not purchase? The doctor had the right to decide what was important and probably decided that if the developer was cheap here, he would be cheap in other areas. The OP is still on the fence but I wouldn't be surprised if this thread would totally turn him off to TV and all of the good and great things here.
If you don't like the thread, either be an adult and respond politely in disagreement or say nothing. There is absolutely no need for the pettiness shown here. (And feel free to blast me, I'm a big girl and can take it. I am truly sick of seeing threads like this.)

Actually if you have an I-pad with LTE you can create your own hot spot to connect to the Internet, guess he didn't have his check book around when that was offered at the apple store, or doesn't have a I-pad???
Wow, I guess the real reason will surface some day.

I think that deciding not to buy here based on the lack of internet in the villa is excessive. However, I do think that the TV sales department should move on up into the 21st century and provide internet service for a LSV. Redwitch makes good points about it being difficult to use your smart phone as internet, especially if you're trying to view homes online. Air cards and hot spots cost extra $. Turning on your hot spot alone can cost $20-$40, at least with Sprint. Air cards are even more. Can't tell you how many times I hop on the internet when a question comes up. Not having it at hand is just more than an inconvenience anymore.
We may be retired, but we haven't left technology behind.

WOW - have to agree with the OP - not providing internet in this day and age is ridiculous. Saying that was the reason I didn't buy is a bit over the top, but so many of us now depend on the internet for our day to day lives I don't think it is reasonable to expect someone to change their daily habits 'cause internet is not provided. Whenever we rented before we bought I always asked if internet was provided. Come on it is 2013 and internet is as important as a phone. If nothing else I need to check my accounts to be sure my identity hasn't been stolen or my bank account emptied! And no, I don't have an Ipad with an air card and don't like using my smart phone 'cause the screen is too small - still stuck with my laptop that needs and old fashioned connection.

Internet used to be extremely important to my business, so I had multiple services, ie...satellite, AT&T USB connect device for my laptop, an iPhone and an iPad, both with
3G service. Internet overload!!! It was important.....so on our lifestyle visit, I never even gave it a thought. I was even a little surprised when I read the OP's post, thinking....what???? We had Internet...Forgot, we brought our own.
Not having Internet is a legitimate concern, and I think TV should move into the current times and provide it in the villas. Not buying here because it's not in the LSV villa? Making a big deal about (the doctor!!!) being able to write a check on the spot?? Gee....couldn't about half of you? I couldn't, but I'm sure a lot of you could.
Yeah, I think the OP got exactly what they were looking for. My pleasure to contribute....LOL

I think the original post was a thinly-veiled attempt by a competing development to make TV look like we residents are sitting here hammering out all our posts using a chisel and tablet of stone.
The complainant could have written an email to the head of Sales in TV to state the problem, but instead he/she chose to place the "beef" on the web for everyone's consumption.
If they cannot see the value of the rate of $100/night w/ no added taxes, for a 3/2 beautiful home with bicycles and golf cart, all of which is two blocks from Barnes-Noble and the town square, then they simply don't want to see it.

Thank you for your post, Redwitch. We are considering moving to TV and I see nothing wrong with the OP's opinion. What does concern me is the rudeness and antipathy demonstrated by so many of the responses. Is this intolerance common to residents or just to some on this thread?

TOTV represents a tiny segment of TV. Please don't take us too seriously. We're full of information (good), but we're also full of opinions (some not so good).
TV is a friendly place. Some people on TOTV are a little defensive about TV.

Good evening Maryanna, Please don't let your opinion of The Villages be clouded by our conversations on here. For the most part, people are exactly like your neighbors where you live now. In defense of the negative posts, if the OP has simply stated that they were disappointed there was no Internet available on the lifestyle visit, that's one thing, and I'm sure most would have agreed it's an inconvenience that should be addressed, but to make a big deal of their friend not buying because of it just smacks of not quite right. That struck a nerve with some, that's all.

the op wanted to lock the doors and go to the waterfront....the idea of no internet is so you go into town and use their internet....
Me thinks you're correct as they're smart at TV! (yes, the bad grammar is for effect (not affect) and I'm a gud spelar).
2 more thoughts:
Why isn't the Dr. on here himself now that he's back home with internet service?
And, why doesn't TV think that when a person gets back from a tiring day looking at houses that they might just want to get online in comfort in their jammies and look for more houses to look at the next day in TV 'cause they want to buy badly?
PS: Isn't LSV a 'low speed vehicle'? There are new laws on that you know!

I must chime in here!!
We just finished our fantastic lifestyle visit. We loved the villages and had a fantastic time.
BUT.....after returning home we had hours and hours of research to do that we were unable to do while there. Checking out resale listings, checking out lots available in new areas, etc. Because we we busy having a great time we did not get the questions answered that we needed. Our sales rep was great, but we had so many questions and areas to research for ourselves that we could have done while we were there if we had internet access.
I think it is a mistake for the sales office not to offer wifi in each of the units. In this day and age and with the big decision to move to the Villages at stake, it would be a very small investment with a very big pay off for them.
Now we are home, put a deposit on a lot we have never seen and have tons of questions. It would have been great to have has access to that information while there.

I rented a house in Hadley Village in 2009 while I was waiting to close on the new house I had bought. The rental house had an internet connection and I had my own computer, but the cost of providing internet was included in the rent and it never occurred to me that it might be provided free or as part of the purchase price in my new house. What a silly assumption.

My husband travels all over the country and the world so he has a wireless internet card - also called laptop cards, wireless modems and PC cards - it's a devices that attaches to your computer to give you access to the internet over a wireless carrier’s cellular network. Most wireless internet cards now support 3G data speeds, and are convenient if you want to access the internet wirelessly anywhere, anytime, without a Wi-Fi hotspot or a wired connection. It cost about $50.00 a month...NOW...if you don't want to spend that you can go to Best Buy and buy one that is temporary...the 5 P's Prior, Planning, Prevents, Poor, Performance...If the internet is so important...ASK or be prepared !!!

Hi,
Here is an email that I sent to our salesman after coming down for the Life Style Visit.
Hi,
With the exception of having to drive over to a recreation center to answer emails, the trip was nice and informative.
Rewritten....a little softer.
Surprised that our LSV accommodation did not have internet.
We enjoyed our LSV visit so much to The Villages. We loved all of the activities and how beautiful everything was. We enjoyed talking to people who live there and found them to be helpful and informative.
Our only wish was that we could have had internet connection so that we could access the information that would make it easier to find things, look at home listings and for me, keep up with my business.
We were so impressed with everything else here that we were a little surprised to not be offered a place with internet access. A friend who accompanied us was more than a little disappointed. Has anyone else mentioned this as a problem?
We loved everything else about this place you lucky people call home.

We noted the lack of internet during our recent LSV and mentioned it in a (hopefully) constructive manner to our sales rep, who seemed to take it as helpful feedback.
My wife, who is addicted to the internet, found going to Barnes & Noble to be only a minor inconvenience. Plus, we got to meet more people at the store and get Starbucks coffee (which we do not have in India).

I don't know why totv posters get rude and say nasty things about people. I agree it is unusual not to offer internet services in a rental and they should highlight that in their material they send you before your visit. For a few days walking to barnes and noble or the sales center should not be a big deal.

Not sure who made this "silly assumption" but the OP said nothing about expecting free internet with the purchase of a house.
It's obvious (to me) that part of the OP's issue is wanting it for FREE, if free wasn't the issue he could have gone to Walmart and got a temporary air card.
I would say the biggest part of his problem is not being able to effectively complain. He should have thought it through, organized his thoughts and restricted his complaint to HIS PROBLEM. Not his friend (the alleged Dr.), not his wife...his problem. Trying to read for comprehension, his problem is he couldn't check emails. He said nothing about SKYPE, floor plans or lot selection...only emails.
If having a connection to check emails was that important he should have worked it out prior to the visit. If it was that important while here he should have spoken to the Sales Dept. It's been my experience that TV goes out of their way to make all these people feel special, if he had opened his mouth and told them that the sale of two houses was contingent on a stinking $20 air card TV may have sent their goodwill ambassador GG over with an aircard and a box of cannolis (this is why she gets the BIG BUCKS-lol).
My initial response (and this one) was not intended to be snarky, just a little constructive criticism. If you want to be taken seriously get your act together.

We went to Barnes and Noble. The no Internet idea is to get you out and about, not holed up in your villa.
Many people that bought here started out on the LSV w/o accessible Internet and are glad for it.

The solution for the future is to clearly state no phone, no WI-FI. If we needed to bring cell phones, no WI-FI is intuitively Obvious. We had an iPhone and iPad, with 3G.
When and if, one buys a house, they can set up their own INTERNET,

Actually, after we reserved our Lifestyle Visit at Creekside Landing, we had many follow up calls from the sales office. We took the advice of one woman there who suggested that we get a cell phone as there were no landlines in any of the homes.
My husband had an OLD cell phone which we really never used as we have landlines in almost every room of our house plus (at the time prior to retirement (at the business)...........but he obliged and went out and ordered the newest I-Phone which really came in handy in TV.
I was able to email the airport......make hotel reservations, etc. for day before our flight back..........he was able to navigate all over TV with his I-Phone as the rental car did NOT have a Garmin or navigational system as had been promised to us.....
Then, when we got to our one month rental, the owner had wireless internet service.....so we could have brought our laptops, but actually survived without them.
Everything we needed to know was in the Daily "Sun" newspaper.........and on the television. It was actually a nice break NOT to be "connected" for a month ++++ and hubby had the I-Phone to take and send pictures to our kids............and to all the home computers...........

Seriously? The Lifestyle visit is one of the best deals around. A beautiful fully furnished villa with a golf cart and bicycle for less than the price of most hotel rooms. I have never known the Villages to skimp on anything!
Totally agree!! It is actually nice to be disconnected from the internet, e-mails, etc. once in a while and maybe go outside and take a look around and experience the beauty of nature instead of having your face in front of a computer screen or smart phone all day :)
We did the Lifestyle preview at Creekside for 6 days. Went to Miona Rec Center to catch up on e-mails twice during the 6 days for 30-60 minutes each time. No big deal.

The I-Phones are very hard to type on...........
I'm a fast typist on any keyboard, however, the new I-Phone which we purchased ahead of time before traveling to The Villages , just about drove me nuts.......and I'm a calm person. The tiny keys are very frustrating.
However, had the sales lady not called and told us that we needed to get a cell phone before coming to stay at the Villages, we'd have been in a real pickle.
Not so much after we moved into our one month rental home as they did have the WiFi connection..........but we didn't have our laptops or I-Pads or notebooks, etc. with us..........luckily, we had that phone.

On my LSV one of the smoke alarms started LOUDLY relentlessly beeping around 5:00 p.m. It was mounted too high for me or for that matter anyone to reach without a high ladder. It was literally driving me crazy so I called the number provided. Some guy answered it and I asked for someone (him, it turned out) to come over and deal with it. He told me he could not make it for a couple of hours and suggested I go somewhere for a few hours until he could come over. I told him I was settled in and did not wish to leave. Well, about two hours later he shows up. He admitted that when I called (his cell phone) he was on the golf course and wanted to finish his round, which he did. He was obviously a retiree working for The Villages and was on call. He clearly did not want to be bothered with doing his job. The way this was handled so unprofessionally left a very bad taste in my mouth.
On the same trip, actually just prior to visiting The Villages, I visited Terra Vista. It turned out the place they had rented to me for their lifestyle visit was not prepared. It was left very clean by the previous guests but had not been provided maid service. I called and a whole team of cleaning ladies came over within ten minutes and did a wonderful job, thoroughly cleaning the entire unit and providing fresh linens and towels. When I left a couple of days later the management voluntarily refunded my entire payment. That left a very good taste in my mouth!

Generally folks won't find "Wi-Fi" in anyone's house. The houses/villas they put folks up in will eventually be sold. As other posters have shared a cellphone would work and there's several places one can go (McD's, Panera, and more) to pick up the internet. The houses aren't meant to be hotels/motels but a feature to show what it could be like to live here.
We have internet access in our home by connecting with a provider.

While the OP may not have complained in an effective manner, many here are lacking just as much in reading comprehension.
And thank you for the constructive criticism, but I have my act together quite nicely.
Redwitch, I totally agree. I introduced a friend of mine to this site (she has never visited TV). She lurked for one day and said "no way I want to live around these people."

If you want to be taken seriously get your act together.
This is NOT snarky? Embarrassing someone in public (that's what private messages are for) because words are misspelled or grammar is poor is being even semi-nice and is constructive criticism? Telling another human to get their act together is NOT snarky? I would really, truly hate to imagine what you consider snarky. Does snarky mean downright cruel to you?
According to Merriam-Webster:
"Definition of SNARKY
1: crotchety, snappish
2: sarcastic, impertinent, or irreverent in tone or manner <snarky lyrics>
— snark·i·ly adverb
Examples of SNARKY
<working all day with such snarky jerks is exhausting>
<with champagne as a lubricant, she unleashed an unending series of snarky comments for the duration of the wedding reception>
The writer at No. 10, Fred Mustard Stewart, died last February at 74. His obituary in The Guardian contained this snarky observation: “Year in, year out, the 600-page mark did not daunt him.” —Dwight Garner, New York Times Book Review, 24 Feb. 2008

I think some folks are comparing apples and oranges -- a LSV in one of TV's cottages is not the same as renting someone's home (even if a lifestyle visit). If you rent a home (even if a LSV), you're not guaranteed a bike; walking distance to a town square; a golf cart. If you're staying in TV's cottages, thinking you would have a phone and internet access is not unreasonable. These are NOT private homes -- these are houses set up specifically for short visits while sales people show you homes. It does not seem unreasonable that people staying in the cottages be given a simple warning (as senior citizen was) that there is no phone or internet in the premises. I doubt it would be all that difficult to set up a WiFi network for those areas specifically set up for LSVs.
The other thing to consider is that djm's original post was a copy of an email sent while he was obviously upset. Don't know about you, but I have a tendency to make typos, leave out words, say things I later regret when upset (tis one of the reasons I have a 24-hr rule about sending an email when upset and a 1-hr rule when replying in a forum when I don't like what is being said).
I sincerely doubt that a nice phrasing would have made a bit of difference to most responders -- they felt it was a petty complaint and treated it and djm as such. Just because it wasn't important to you when you were visiting doesn't mean it isn't important to the next person. djm tried to give people doing an LSV a head's up that there was no internet (obviously, no phone was not a big deal).

I can only hope their answer would not be "we want to get you out of the house and enjoying the lifestyle". I would personally go and strangle someone that thought in my retirement I need to be directed how to spend my day.
And I doubt they would have the balls to say because of cost.

Some of us coming for LSVs are not yet retired. When my wife and I come (hopefully in January) we'll both be on vacation from our jobs - my wife runs her own business. Both of us require more than email for our work, and regularly travel with laptops so that in situations where we have to do work, we can.
We've come to expect that internet service will be available, either included or at an extra fee wherever we stay.
We'll have to adjust our expectations for our LSV, and plan accordingly.

Gee-whiz !! Nine pages of Posts over such a trivial topic !
I have been here over a year and have always enjoyed reading most of the Threads .
Most are rationale and informative even when there are many divergent views .
This issue seems to have taken on a life -of -its-own . Could we all agree " enough said " and move on to something more constructive even " dog-poop "!
When I read the OP I said to myself " self just glad that these folks will not be living here " ! They sound like professional " whiners ". And then I moved on to read intelligent Posts .

I’m amazed at the amount of hostility that came from my post. Luckily for me I had the opportunity to see what the villages had to offer. I was also impressed at how friendly everyone was. In my original post I suggested three options that the Villages might want to take.
1. Offer free internet to those who are participating in the LSV.
2. Offer internet for a fee.
3. Advice people that there will not be internet at their villa.
For posting something that was controversial I was blasted, called a liar, told to move someplace else. Lack of internet is a trivial thing compared to the hatred and meanness from some on this site. Imagine how many people who have not had a chance to see how wonderful The Villages are and read such hateful responses.
Instead of one of the friendliest places in the world it may look like a bunch of old, grumpy, hateful people. These negative comments will not stop me from moving to the Villages and enjoying both the activities, and the delightful people. It has made me certain that I will not make another post on this site.
I know that some of you will not believe the most recent letter from my salesperson, but I decided to post it here anyway.
SALESMAN LETTER
Yesterday I stopped by the on duty manager to explain your situation to him and how it negatively affected your stay and likely many others. He totally understood and agreed and said he would act on it.
This morning in my email he copied me the emails that went from him to the VP of the company (a big time big shot) and the director of Guest Services who handle the renting of the Cabana’s (where you stayed). It is clear they do not want this to happen again and are implementing steps to make sure people are aware of the wifi service so they are not surprised like you were. We are a big company and only as good as the staff. Hopefully these new steps will not be overlooked.
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am truly sorry your stay was affected. Be well and please stay in touch!!!

Come live the dream
Good. Good result!
Now go back and read your OP and really think how you might have written it without Pi34ing everyone off.
If you haven't already, you may want to read Gracie's post.
Here is an early Welcome to The Villages!

This thread has gotten totally out of hand. At this point, it would be impossible to prune out all the off topic, nasty, and attacking posts...so, it will just be closed to further comment.
To the OP, our apologies that we did not intercede more aggressively earlier to keep the discussion civil and on topic. We simply cannot Moderate this site 24/7 and, at times, discussions degrade.
We will try to do better to enforce the site guidelines and keep the tone friendly, civil, and welcoming. The tone of many of these comments is not reflective of The Villages as a whole.
