Jack Rubin here, while my wife Betty, is doing a cross stiching project in the other room. We started out in Coraopolis/Sewickley, PA. Both towns are about 10 miles North of Pittsburgh. Moved to Columbus, OH in 1970, then onto Wilmington, DE in 1973, back to Columbus, OH in 1989, then back to DE in 1991. We have lived in The Villages since Oct. 1994. Needless to say, we just love it here. This life style is easy to get used to.

Glen and Marian Shanor here since 1999. Born and raised in Rochester, Pa, built first house in Center Twp in 1966, (Monaca, Pa), sold it and moved to North Sewickley Twp in 1971 (Beaver Falls), transferred to (Westinghouse) Fayetteville, NC in 1981, transferred to Asheville, NC in 1983, transferred to (Eaton Corp, Business Buyout) Milwaukee, WI in 1995, transferred back to Asheville, NC in 1996, Transferred back to Milwaukee, WI in 1997, then declined a transfer to the Dominican Republic in 1999 and decided to retire instead. The Villages is a great place to live although it getting too large for me, not sure I can adapt to the crowds at this time.

I worked at WBVP radio in Beaver Falls back in the 60s. I roomed in Monaca at a home owned by an elderly lady whose son was a Monaca policeman. Her name was Kalervo. The sons name was Lolli Kalervo (or Kolervo) Mrs. Kalervo's husband died, but had a great bunch of antique cars in the basement of their house. She left them exactly as they were when he died. They were in mint condition and covered with dust.

HI ... I'm Chris. Although I grew up in Punxsutawney, PA (home of the infamous Punxsy Phil!), I moved to Rochester, NY after college, where I met my husband John. We raised our family there, a very nice city BTW, and when we decided we didn't like the wind chill and snow any longer, we decided to move here. Although we've only been here since Sept 06, we love it here. John retired from Kodak and I'm retired from Wegmans. Any other Rochesterians down here?

We are from a little town in Michigan called Petersburg. It is off of US-23 just about nine miles north of Toledo, Ohio. We were born and raised in Toledo and then moved to the country about 34 years ago. We still have our home in Michigan and we love it there but we also love the Villages. We stay here about seven months and then go home. It is the best of both worlds. I would love to meet and talk to anyone from Michigan or Ohio.

Anyone know of a meat market or supermarket that sells black angus beef? My husband hails from Long Island originally but he lived in Texas for 30 years. He retired in 2004 as a police officer.

Beautiful famous Narragansett Beach, Rhode Island. We miss it, but being closer to our granddaughter here in Florida is well worth it. We could not afford to keep our home in RI. The Villages is the only other place we would rather be. We adore the landscaping, conveniences, and the entertainment!!! We can easily visit Florida beaches, and do so quite often.

Is there something about Keene that I don't know about? Have you ever been there? I saw the "smiley" face, but didn't get the "joke".

Yes, I have been to Keene. As you know it is considered a small town with a little over 22 thousand people. My comment was intended to convey that since you left, the town is even smaller, and the smiley face was to indicate that the comment was made with good nature.

:) We're from Alameda, California. Just across the Bay bridge from San Francisco. My hubbie and I married in 0
3 on the beach in Maui. We decided to start a new life here. No more 2-3 hour commute to work. No more road rage. No more San Francisco politics. We love it and have met many wonderful people. My adult kids thought we must have a screw loose to leave Calif. They changed their minds when they came to visit.
I work at the hospital and am not too happy there. TVRH is just about the only thing I'm not thrilled about here in Florida.
I was born in Indiana and spent every summer in Bloomington where my Mom was raised and went to IU. :welcome:Hello to the lady from Bloomington. I spent many summers roaming through the hills and playing in the creeks. I worked in the cafeteria of the dental school during my 17th summer. My best girlfriend and I thought we would find a dreamy dentist like Mark Spitz.... we washed lots of dishes instead.

Hey Funnygirl, I'm in Alameda, CA right now visiting my daughter & g'kidz. They love Alameda (of course it's pretty & quaint, with all the amazing Victorain houses), but they haven't seen the Villages yet! I can hardly wait to show them the Villages. I love it there - although I'd like it a lot more if they'd throw in a few Victorian and other interesting architechural designs to provide more variety in the neighborhoods...

Excuse me for getting off topic! Since this is the 'where are you from' topic, I'm from several places: Arlington, VA, Searcy, AR (HU lifer), Oklahoma City, and Mt. Dora.

Hi Scottke: I'm from a great little town you've most likely heard of . . . Lambertville, right on the Delaware (I'm one block back so no flooding for me). I love it here but cannot afford to buy here, taxes are crazy. As I said, I graduated from TCNJ so your area was my old stompin ground. It's sad to want to leave an area you love b/c you can't afford to live there anymore, but, I am sooooooo excited about the prospect of moving to TV.
Great weather we're having (yesterday 82 degrees for a change). Are you living in TV yet? p.s. Leaving for Vegas on Monday. Then on Thurs. puttin' in the river (Colorado) for a 8 day rafting expedition coving the entire 277 miles through the Grandest Canyon. Will check messages when I return, hopefully; I'll return !!!! Ok, think positive, think positive, no danger, no danger. Only issue I see right now is the weather. Appears it will be chilly, of all things, in the canyon during those days!! Bathing in a 48 degree river is one thing if it's 100 degrees outside. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Hi Jerseygirl - nope not in TV yet. Early 2008 is our expectant date. We leave for TV on Friday to see how it is in the summer time as we will be full time owners when we move. Our house has been looked at by 3 agents for pricing but the market is terrible here so we think we are going to hold out and list after the first of the year. Can't wait to be a villager - it is the coolest place. You're right, too expensive in NJ - just can't do it. We are leaving children and 10 grandkids behind. I know they'll all visit. Have a great time on your trip. Your trip would scare me to death. All that water and rapids!!!!! Sign on when you get back. We'll have to meet some day - maybe when we are both villagers.

I was "born and raised" in State College, PA (Penn State University); then lived in Midland Michigan; Then in the Willow Grove, Fort Washington PA area before moving to West Palm Beach Florida and then here in 2004. (I was careful not to give the number of years in each location.......)

Hi Scottke: It is sooooo hard to make that decision to leave kids and grandkids. But, I have determined they will come visit, for sure during the wintertime. I only have one grandchild at this point but it is still a hard thing to do. I will post about my Grand Canyon rafting trip. It will prove to be my coolest adventure ever, I'm sure. Hopefully, no calamities, no big storms, . . . and I'll bite my tongue and say, NO INJURIES! I am journaling so will have my notes to reflect on when I return on 8/31. Yes, I'd love to meet up with you are wife someday. Good luck on sale of house. I also have a house for sale and the prospects are not good at all. But, you never know when the market will take a turn for the better. Later . . . . JerseyG

Hi-- Rebekah here....

I was born in Evansville, IN. We moved to what 'use' to be 'the country' (Newburgh, IN) when I was in grade school. I've lived in Anniston, AL, Port Charlotte & Punta Gorda, FL, and now reside in Ingleside, IL (suburb 50 miles North of Chicago-- since 1986).

My significant other is a Chicago boy and never lived anywhere else ... until The Villages. ;) Quite honestly, we never considered ever living in Florida. But then there's TV ... 'nuf said. :)

It has been very interesting reading about the diversity that now have an interest in TV. I love it!

Blessings,
Rebekah

Hello-
Barbara and I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and now live in Dexter, which is 10miles NW of AA. We are snowbirds, and have been since 2001. We have a courtyard Villa in Palo Alto, and love it. The Villages is better than the video. We bought after 2 years of renting just to be sure. We will return there near the end of October, depending on the weather. It sure is nice in Michigan right now, but when the days get shorter, the leaves are off the trees and it gets "gray", we are out of here. Life is good. Hope to meet you all on one of the golf courses or squares for happy hour.

My wife and I are from Allentown, Pa. Looking forward to moving to TV next fall. Have visited TV twice and made up our minds that the lifestyle, community, and climate is what we're looking to retire to. We are like most retirees who question whether we are doing the right thing by uprooting ourselves and our fond memories where we spent most of our lives. However, all we have to do is think about the 15-20 inches of snow, increased crime in the cities, increased taxes, and traffic congestion and we realize that we have made the right decision.

This is my first "Post" and I really enjoy the Forum as I have learned quite a bit to make the transition to TV a pleasant one. I have read a lot of topics ranging from the pros and cons of electric vs gas carts, property taxes, renting vs buying, restaurants, to monthly income needed for TV lifestyle. The discussions have been helpful in sorting out a lot of the question I had. I look forwad to participating in the forums in the :)near future.

I was raised in Jamestown NY and my husband in Lyndonville NY but we now live in Lima, NY , a little south of Rochester. We are snowbirds but plan to be spending more time in The Villaes as time goes by. Last year we drove out of 83 degree weather and into a snowstorm in Rochester. Our big question was, "We came home, why?"

We moved from Rochester in fall of 2006. Never again wanted to shovel snow or feel that wind chill! And we love the "WARM" weather down here.

My wife was born in Brooklyn, Levittown, Santa Barbara CA, Sacramento CA, St. Louis, then with me.

Hi, I'm from the Buckeye State, Ohio! Lived in Cleveland for the first six decades of my life, but have been down here since Jan. 06 and lovin it. I spend my time playing cards, golfing and using one of the many pools to cool off. When I worked I spent many days visiting six states in the Midwest including Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. What a beautiful part of the country, but you can keep the snow and cold weather. If I had known how easy it was to make new friends 1,000 miles from my family, church, community and business associates, I would have moved here long ago. :)

Since I'm not retired (my hubby is, lucky guy!) we still maintain our home in Hamburg, Michigan but spend as much time as we can here in TV. Hamburg is located about 15 miles north of Ann Arbor. My wife and I were both born and raised in Brooklyn NY ( Ya got a problem wit dat ) We were "Going Steady" all through High School. After graduation and the service and a trip along Rt66 to L.A. I came home and married my high school sweetheart. We moved to Wantagh LI then to Holbook LI and then to Seatauket Harbor LI. After 30 years on LI, and at my age fifty, we retired and moved to Boca Raton FL also bought a house in Brevard NC. Did not like Boca so we sold and moved to Fort Myers Fl, we decided after seven years that we did not want to leave Fort Myers in the summer, so we sold the house in Brevard. We have been, and still are very happy in Fort Myers but, after a lifestyle visit and a months rental, we have concluded that The Villages is better, much better, and we can not wait to move there. I was brought up in Plainfield, Connecticut but lived in Enfield, CT before moving to The Villages. So I'm very familiar with Lebanon, Norwich, Preston and the casinos as previously posted.

Many years ago I was a toll collector on the Mohegan Pequot Bridge when it was a 15 cent toll. That bridge now leads into the Mohegan Sun Casino.

Love The Villages now.

I thought all the Mohegans died out with Chingachuk, but I guess his cousin Cha Ching is still around.

:clap2: :clap2: We are from the great Midwest! State of Illinois -the Land of Lincoln. Bloomington-Normal is our summer home. This is the home office of State Farm Insurance. Have spent the last 8 years in Palm Springs in the winter. Usually 3 mo. at a time. Beautiful area with the mountains and sun. Moved to the Villages a year ago for 6 mo. a year and just love it. Who needs mountains as we do not have time to look at them! :2excited: :2excited:

Hi Mr. and Mrs. Sailor,

Sorry you will not be able to join us at Crispers this month.

Once a month TOTVer's meet at a restaurant called Crispers. It is in the shopping center on Rt. 466 near Publix. We meet at 3 pm on the third Friday of each month.

We meet at 3 pm because the lunch time crowd has left already and we have the place primarily to ourselves.

If you need more info please do not hesitate to email me. When you can make it to Crispers please let me know, so we can all welcome you.

Once again Congratulations and :welcome: to TV.

From one of your 65,000 new neighbors.

Born in River Rouge, MI and spent several years in Wyandotte, MI. Moved north to Port Austin, MI for a couple of years of HS. Managed the roller rink in 57-58. Really hated to see it burn down. 20 yrs in the Navy with way too many places to list. A couple of yrs working in MA and living in Hollis, NH. Work took me south to Lorton, VA where I was a beltway bandit. ::) Then 7 yrs full time in an RV. Slept in all but 2 states, and most of Canada. Settled in TV 2004. Wife was born and raised in Lowell, MA. I saved her when I moved south to VA. We love it here, but still love to travel.

I was born in the South Bronx, moved to Queens but spent most of my childhood in North Babylon New York (on Long Island). I attended college at SUNY in Oneonta (near Cooperstown NY) and then started working and living in Queens. I lived a nomadic existence for a few years, eventually spending some time in Cheshire Ct, Levittown NY and for the last 25 years (until 3 weeks ago), Ellicott City Maryland. Ellicott City is a wonderful place, and were it not for an even better place called The Villages, I'd still be there.

We are from chilly IL. Have lived here all our lives and keep asking ourselves why??? Our home is completed in TV and we are just waiting for that magic age of 55 to get here so we can retire. June, 2010 is the date for us to begin our life in paradise.
We have lived in the western suburban area of Chicago for most of our lives. Although I grew up in the Northwest suburb of Arlington Heights. Currently we live in Sugar Grove.

We are anxiously counting the days until we are full-timers. We will be in TV in March to spend a week in our home during Spring Break. We are both teachers. This is our first time to see our home (in person. . .we have been sent lots of pictures) since it has been built!! Can't wait!
