I like the Courtyard Villas. They're all the space we need, but the garages seem very small. Since there are no basements or attics, it would seem you'd need someplace to store things and maybe have a small work bench. If you have a car and a golf cart in the garage there would be no place to do that. For those with CYV's, do you park your car outside and use the garage for a small workbench and storage? Do you miss having a 2 car garage? Is it a deal breaker for buying a CYV or do you find ways around this?
Thanks for your input.

we loved the cyvs but can't live with a 1.5 garage and the short driveway at an angle, does not give you much room....there are some 2 car cyv near lake sumter but drives are tight there also...we bought a cottage instead

We have a CYV w/ a 1-1/2 car garage and find the size tight but very acceptable. I have a 6' work bench ans a couple of storage racks and there is room for a full size auto and our golf cart. We will be adding a few cabinets on the wall for the smaller garden tools, etc. I added over 100 sq. feet of flooring above the garage and it is plenty of room for suit cases, holiday decorations and other large items. We downsized for 3000' home with a 3 car garage, full basement and a 200 sq ft out building. Got rid of all of the power tools, lawn/ snow equipment and are doing fine w/o all of the stuff. There is no reason to keep the stuff you may never use again!

We had a CYV and found it to be tight in the garage. We had an SUV and golf cart in there. I was just able to get into the drivers side and carefully back out because of the curved short drive, to allow my passenger to get in or out in the driveway. I was able to put shelving up in the back of the garage and along one side by the garage door. There is room in front of the golf cart, but very slim in front of the SUV.

We have a two car garage, straight drive in, no curve, in Mission Hills. We have two golf carts and a small car parked in the garage as well as one and a half sides lined with tall cabinets. Lots of room. Well, not as much as the 850 square foot three bay separate garage with storage above on the home we just sold in Seattle, but we also got rid of all the stuff we had stored in there so who needs it anymore? I can't even remember what we had in there.

We sold our CYV after three years and bought a house with an oversized garage. I loved the CYV! But sadly, we found the garage was too small. Not just for storage, but for hobbies. We acquired a golf cart, a motorcycle, bikes, golfclubs, gardening equipment, etc. We looked at a few CYVs with two-car garages; but found them expensive and the driveways were usually short. We wanted a serene view which further limited our CYV choices. Fireboy has many hobbies including E-Flyers and motorcycles. He's a "garage guy", and now he gets to have a large workshop area. It's all about personal needs.

Some of the CYVs have shorter garages than others - ours is a Bonita/Foxglove, pretty deep garage. We keep our Honda Fit and 2 golf carts (parked tandem style, and one is a 4 seater), plus 3 bikes (one behind the car for frequent use, the other 2 in front of the parked car), a small workbench (must back out golf carts to use it), a tool chest (one of the chargers sits on that, the other on the workbench), and various garden tools/sports rackets hanging from hooks. Also have one of those 6 ft by about 2.5 ft storage cabinets near the inside door.
Also have a small reel mower and some other stuff like chairs, hose. Works because the Honda Fit is not very wide. We too usually back it out before the passenger gets in. Usually have about 3 feet behind it and 5-6 feet in front of it. Also, our hobbies are indoor ones (sewing, playing trumpet, reading, cards, etc). If you are a garage putterer, you would probably not be happy with the normal 1-1/2 car garage in a CYV.
We keep a garden deckbox near the gate inside the fence with stuff like potting soil, fertilizers, etc. The laundry room in our model is also larger than some, allowing for an extra wall of storage across from the washer/dryer.

Look at the courtyard villas in The Villages.com in Sharon Villas. Some of these courtyard villas have two car garages. They are on the expensive side but, have a golf course view. I live in Mission Hills and I understand there are a couple of homes for sale with two car garages. The location is great and the people here are even better! There really is nothing like a courtyard villa for privacy and low maintenance. Good luck in your search.

I think lack of space is a big reason people sell their first house and buy A second.

I had the opportunity to buy a CYV with a two car garage last year...there were two on the market...it seemed too far away from my retirement date so I didn't...I regret it now.....especially since the price at the time was much lower than current cyvs with one car garages..
