What was the best advice that anyone ever gave you prior to moving to THE VILLAGES FLORIDA?

Also, what was the worst advice you received prior to relocating.......?

We are on day two of our new carpet installation to "neutralize" the house; love it. Will now show like a model. Hopefully. Not going to count my chickens before they are hatched.

Getting used to the house being all topsy turvy with furniture upended all over the place......and more bags for the Salvation Army........

I was pleasantly surprised to receive this email early this morning from our sister in law in Arizona.........who has "been there and done that" , relocating about five years ago from a retirement community in New Jersey.........see below......words of wisdom from someone who has gone through the downsizing twice.......before settling in Arizona......
.................................................. .................................................. ....

""It is liberating and less is better in retirement.

Take as little as possible.

Shred most documents, except the most critical, which should
fit in one cardboard file box.

Good luck with your move.

Enjoy every day that you give away things and then you will have the freedom to truly enjoy your retirement.

Always walk a mile a day, lift weights for strength training. Try yoga, pilates, tai chi, dance, sing and have fun.

Use the Fitness Center............it will be air conditioned and you will get stronger.""

Purge everything, it's liberating.

Doing just that. But I'm stumped on what to do with the table full of stacks upon stacks of old but nice china / dinnerware that I emptied out of the dining room china cabinet so the carpet installers could move it and the table, chairs, etc. out into the three season sun porch........; they will carpet the dining room today..........the living room now looks "purged".....packed up all the grandkids Wii games and such.......all those fitness resort plus dance interactive games......

I got a nice new set of pale pale seafoam rustic looking dinnerware from Crate and Barrel for Christmas........and plan to put that into the china cabinet and also take to Florida...........but what to do with all the other sets? Kids don't seem to want them...........

How many of you just use paper plates? ha ha......

Excess dishes will no doubt go to the Salvation Army with the rest of the stuff we bring each day.........

Don't pack and move it, sell it all. The only thing we brought was the tools, golf clubs, home theater, audio system, the cat and our clothing. By the time you try to pack it and pay to move it down here and the money you'll make in selling it off, it's cheaper to buy all new stuff. We ordered it all and it was completely setup in our new home before closing.

Sell home furnished!....We have ben fortunate to buy furniture in NC, so no personal attachment....Every home has been sold furnished...Fun to furnish next one!

Worst advice:

From our NC friends, "Don't go to the Villages, lots of bugs and too hot!..
p.s.: Every winter they are the first to visit and get away from the cold!!!!
