We were at home on Wednesday when there was a knock on the door. Two representatives from T.P.M. landscapers offered to remove the pine straw in the front garden and replace it with tan river rock for $1,250. Our house in brand new and the front garden is the "standard" garden for an Iris. Does this price seem extremely high or is it just me? Would appreciate any insights. Thanks.

I don't know if the price is high or low.... What I do know is, reputable venders do not knock on your door.

A friend just hired someone to do something like this in her yard and when the job was complete... they asked for more money..... or something like that.

There is plenty of time to find good landscapers.

Don't ever do business with someone who knocks on your door. Check with your neighbors to see who they use for various services.

Don't hurry to get things done around your house, you should get bids for any kind of work. Also beware of the welcome lady who says she is from the villages, she is not. Don't let her in your home. She is just a shill for people looking to sell you services. She will also try to to push for water softener treatment for your home. There is nothing wrong with the water. If you wish a simple sediment and chlorine filter for a few hundred bucks will work well. Use the search box here to find just about anything you want to know. Take you time.

Although TPM is a good company - door to door sales usually means they are trying to unload product at a high price. Negotiate A LOT! Seems very high to us and we have rock.

Door Knockers - big red flag. Don't walk away from this 'deal' - RUN!
