Hi,
I'm new to this and confused. I want to ask folks if they know anyone that has gone to Machu Picchu with the gentlemen that owns the store in Spanish Springs. I've tried posting this a few times, still not sure if I'm doing it right. thanks:posting:

I went to Machu Picchu two years ago - a fantastic experience. Lima was ok - Cusco and the Sacred Valley were much better. What "store" in Spanish Springs?

It's the Peruvian handcraft store on Main St. I'd think the owner would be very capable of leading a tour. We went several years ago with another couple on our own. We did it spur-of-the-moment from Venezuela. Our friend bought a Lonely Planet and another guide book and she did the negotiating in limited Spanish as we traveled from town to town. There were plenty of tourist guides there to solicit our business and it just wasn't that difficult. Macchu Picchu is spectacular and it was the best trip of our lives.

My sister went to MPichu ( not w the store's owner)
She said trip of a lifetime
She loved it
But be aware of the very high altitude
Plan to be one day in Czco before going to MachuPichu so you let your body get used to the air

You should go into the store and talk to the owner. He has a book with pictures from past trips. He has family that live in that area and he goes to some off the beaten path spots, where only the locals go. He also has a get together about twice a year with all the past guests, where you get to talk to them about their trip. Just ask the owner when his next get together is.
I have not gone on the trip but I have talked to the guy and it sounds like a wonderful trip.

The store is Cozco Handcrafts on Main Street in Spanish Springs.

Here is the store owner's website. He told me about the trip a couple of years ago and I think he would be the best kind of guide....native, knows the ins and outs, has family there in the area.

The photo galleries here are stunning, and there are reviews by past tourists who've gone with him:

Some friends went with the store owner and his group, and they enjoyed it. More pricey than doing it on your own and hiring local guides.
