Pursuant to a previous thread about hot pavement and fried puppy paws, here are a few photos of dog shoes. Anybody know of a local source?
If not, one of you folks have got a business idea for the markets at squares.
I want hot pink dog boots with Emma's name in rhinestones.

They aren't boots..it's a wax that you put on the pads that turns into a protective layer for dogs on pavement, sand, ice (no worries there). I know my Rudy would NOT want doggie shoes on. he would consider it an insult to his Cocker manhood! This wax looks interesting, though!

I'm torn when it comes to covering their paws. They sweat through their paws, right? If they have the paws covered will that make it worse. Saw some disposable ones but they are made of rubber. Then there many that are for snow and have fleece inside. There is a product that is rubbed on their paws as a barrier.... Hummm.

What I read says dogs don't sweat. They regulate body temp by panting to evaporate saliva. Suggestion in the article was to mist the dog.

I've always thought the fastest way to cool down an overheated dog is to place their feet in cold water.

Most of the dog's sweat glands are located around their foot pads. That is why, when a dog is overheated, you will sometimes see a trail of wet footprints that are left behind when they walk across the floor. They do pant to help regulate body temp but covering another avenue for cooling them isn't something I'd be inclined to do. I did see a picture of doggie sandals in the pictures you linked, Kitty. You could always glue rhinestones on the shoes for the appropriate bling... :D

Does anyone actually DO anything to protect their dog's feet against the heat of the pavement in TV? Sometimes you have to walk them midday I would suspect and how is that handled? I'm very interested in what all you good doggies moms/dads do in TV. Are you worrie about your dog's paws and the heat?

No worries here. Our dogs use only their own yards to do their business. Plenty of cool, soft grass. We would never walk them on hot pavement. We do, however, walk them in the cool early and later hours if it gets cool enough, but again, only after they've relieved themselves in their own yards.

I did not know doggies had sweat glands in the paws. I'll be dipped.
