In a Sunday afternoon conference, members of Trayvon Martin’s church in Florida called for peace, understanding, healing and most importantly, remembrance in the wake of the not guilty verdict for George Zimmerman.
Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Pastor ArthurJackson III said the community was very disappointed by the innocent verdict but that he’s pleased there was no violence as a result.
“I believe that this situation has not paralyzed us, has not traumatized us, but is mobilizing us”, Jackson said.
“It’s going to be a call to rally at the polls to vote. If we’ve never voted before, we’re definitely going to rally to change these unjust laws.”
“For us in this generation, this is our MEDGAR EVERS moment”, he went on, comparing Trayvon’s killing to the assasination of Evers, the World War II hero and civil rights leader.
“This is the moment we’re not going to forget. We’re going to keep this in the forefront of our minds.”
“This is going to continue to live”.
“It will be something that we talk to our children about, now and forever”.

Who actually remembers how Medgar Evers was killed?????
How does it compare to the death of Trayvon Martin?
It has been 50 years since the shocking slaying of Medgar Evers. The civil rights activist and NAACP field secretary fought for equality on many levels, from organizing voter drives and protests against discrimination, to calling for legal investigations into school segregation and the lynching of Emmett Till.
Evers was returning from a meeting when he was gunned down by a white supremacist in the driveway of his Mississippi home.
His death, coming just hours after a speech on civil rights by President John F. Kennedy, sparked a national outpouring of mourning and outrage.
ANYONE OUT THERE WITH MEMORIES OF THIS HAPPENING?????
HOW IS IT SIMILAR TO HOW TRAYVON MARTIN DIED?
IS IT A BIT OF A STRETCH?
